At the same time, shouldn't the components start to come down in price ? I mean they are ridiculously expensive. And new ones are getting released like there's no tomorrow.

A $400 laptop will run you nothing at all. Maybe dota 2 on ultra low quality everthing off and 1024x768.

What does PC running console ports have to do with anything? As long as 80% of steam users have underpowered laptops, console ports will run on underpowered laptops no matter how hideous they look or how choppy they run.

That said, console ports should obviously pretty much always run on $1500 PC (except for lazyports), but they will hardly use its power effectively, because devs shall not fine tune their games for the few nerds with $1500 PC that might or might not buy it. Its just not economical for them.

I think what he (or she?) is getting at is whether or not the next generation of consoles should cost more money or not.

The PS5/XB2 will be about 5-6x more powerful than current gen, so no they won't be powerhouses, at least when compared to the highest end PC GPUs.

Expect 9 - 11 Tflops from the next-gen consoles. Also, both will be released no later then 2019.

Next gen I would like to see 2 versions of every console. The regular 400$ version and a 700$ version with more juice. The 300$ difference would be enough to add a decent GPU and maybe CPU. I dream I know...

How did that work out for the PS3? There were too versions, but all the talk was $599. Two versions would only lead to consumer confusion and the feeling that they got the pauper version if they choose the lower priced model. Also that is more work for studios. I'd rather have Naughty Dog focus on optimizing for one system instead two.

This is just a terrible idea. Build yourself a damn PC if you don't like the way consoles are going. Period. End of story. If you already have a PC then stay there.

And from the developer side the difference wouldn't be great, if the system was well built scaling from one to the other could be very straight forward. And really can't see how the PS3 different models have any kind of relation with what I'm saying. But I can see how confusing this must be for someone like you.

And there's the huge plus of seeing a system war within the system wars. I can only imagine PS5 fanboys vs PS5.5 fighting the good fight.

This is by far the stupidest post I, I ever seen coming from the likes of you. There will be no 2 versions of PS5 consoles, both Sony/MS found out the hard way last-gen consoles when they release 2 consoles and it cost them dearly.

Not sure i understand this thread, but i like my consoles to cost 400/500 euros, have powerful compared to the previous ones but not as good as the best PCs. Basically the way they have been since forever.
