for next gen controls i hope they add a lot more buttons. we all know how some games are just overload the buttons by adding so many actions to each button.

look at this control for example, it has 2 buttons on the back which can be assigned to whatever you want (i use A & B), some games like shooters my thumbs never have to leave the thumbstick giving you constant aim and movement whilst being able to jump and run or crouch or whatever. i hope next gen take note and add a bunch of buttons for extra useage AND put them on the back so out thumb can always be in complete control

scuf controller

Also notice those things on the triggers? yeah you use an allen key and can tighten/loosen them (so they can be a trigger for racing games, or like a button you tap for shooters), e.g. in cod you use them very tight and so you can shoot your gun extra quick.... i mean really for a lot of games there is literally no need for the trigger to go all the way down when the button repsonds when it's pushed half way. little features like this add so much flexiiblity to the controller.

you think there are enough buttons currently on the controllers?

they could easily add 2 more buttons on the front beside the current 4

I honestly don't see a purpose though. When I'm playing games on my 360/PS3 I'm never thinking to myself "Man this game is great, but it would have been even better with two more buttons to use." If I want to play a game that I feel doesn't work well on a controller, it's more than likely on a pc and I can play it there. Maybe I'm just not picky :P

I can promise you with every fibre of my being that Sony's next gen controller will either more closely resemble the 360 controller (ergonomically).

Or on the chance that it DOESNT it will be beause they instead went after the WII U's form factor.

Sony gonna Sony

thats probably because console games are designed around the current controllers. limited buttons hold back what COULD be put into a game.

also, most people dont have both a pc and an xbox to game on so its not as easy to say "this doesnt fell okay, lets get in on pc instead"

Next gen controllers could use some extra buttons, but id rather have them in a form of a chat pad like 360 has, fully custom mappable for games and much nicer to send messages or just typing stuff, no retarted screens or touch garbage you have to look at to operate. BTW that controller on the picture, talking about the triggers, thats some pathetic no lifer stuff to mod your triggers to a shorter travel just so you can shoot faster in cod LMAO.

I see where you're coming from, certain games do overuse buttons sometimes (Gears of War comes to mind). I do think there comes a point where simply adding more buttons can be counter intuitive. Counting the d-pad; PS3 and 360 controllers have 12 buttons, control clickers and select button make 15. I'm looking forward to seeing if the Wii U controller can offer more options while still being streamline and simple with the touch screen, especially for functions that aren't actions.

El_Garbanzo

say what you like but there is absoltuely no need for the triggers to go all the way down, because in cod (and LOTS of other games) your gun shoots when the trigger is pushed about half way.

its about how well the controller functions and adding flexibility.

of course there is a point where it could become counter intuitive and invasive, like everything. but if done right it would improve the control a lot and you have to think of it in a way of how games made now currently are fixed around the current control scheme. with extra buttons there will be more the developer can add to the gameplay. one thing of the top of my head: ghost recon, tap A to go into cover, tap the left paddle to peek out (just your head).... thats one use and brand new gameplay right there. personally id like to see 2 buttons on the back and 2 extra buttons on the front (where the 4 currently are)

the only irk i have with the dualshock is its a little small, so maybe make it a tad larger cause the design itself is fine.

And the 360 controller is fine, honestly wouldnt mind backwards compatability stuff like wii U and wii so these controllers still work on the new console.

360 controller will be the best ergonomically and by design if this generation is anything to go by. Specifications could go either way. Nintendo get's points for a freakin screen

Aslong as there is a controller with buttons and not some really stupid pointless gesture control scheme i'll be happy, ds3 and the 360 controllers are ok as they are in my opinion.

Maybe im jumping the gun without actually tryin it first but i just cant see myself sittin holding a huge tablet like controller like the wiiu, its all about weight and ergonomics.

Adjustable triggers and those two backbuttons looks like a welcome and non intrusive addition to me.

Holding down buttons to kick cars and reload means there were'nt enough.

Cover shooters like Gears and ME really brings the issue of multi purpose buttons to light, especially "space-bar does everything" ME2; and controllers downright got in the way of a decent UI, in the case of all current gen Elder Scrolls/Fallouts.

Yeah, most people got 3 or 2 fingers doing nothing on each hand. It would only make sense to put an extra button there.

heres another pic of having 2 mroe buttons on the back seriously, pick up your xbox controller (take out the battery pack if you a wireless) and imagine the buttons are there for your middle or ring fingers imo this is a big missing part of current controllers

I never liked the shoulder triggers. Not in the Dreamcast, GC and they are even worse on the DS3. I hate them because I like fighting games and triggers make everything more difficult. Aside from racing games I really don't see the big deal about them because even for shooters "digital" is better.

you do realize that some people will argue and disagree UNTIL they actually get to hold a new controller like ^^^...then they will be all.."oh man, why didnt they think of this before?"..and act like they never disagreed in the 1st place..in other words people hate what they dont know.

I definitely agree on having access to buttons with all of your fingers, having to take your thumb off of a stick to do an action is pretty annoying.

I'm fine with the number of buttons we have now in regards to the 360 and PS3 controllers. But maybe that's just me.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ps4/orbis controller is akin to a Vita which normal size face buttons and thumbsticks. The touch screen negates the needs for a ton of extra buttons.
