Next gen is shaping up to be eerily similar to this gen.

If you think about it. Both this gen and next gen have a lot in common, such as:

  • Xbox 360 had the better launch line up and better developer support for better exclusives (e.g. Halo, Gears of War, Fable, Dead Rising, etc.) than PS3, just like the Xbox One has better developer support for better exclusives than PS4.
  • PS3 was slightly more powerful (on paper) than the Xbox 360, just like the PS4 is slightly more powerful (on paper) than the Xbox One. Yet this slight extra power was never truly realized in any games (the Gears of War series on Xbox 360 looks as good as any game on PS3).
  • Xbox 360 had a better and more ergonomic controller than PS3, just like the Xbox One has a better and more ergonomic controller than the PS4.
  • The Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 by a wide margin in North America, just like the Xbox One is set to outsell the PS4 by a wide margin in North America.

Is history repeating itself? I think so.

Your 2nd and the 3rd points are incorrect, the 4th point needs confirmation.

Indeed PS4 will deliver by far the best games and graphics when it comes to consoles. Just like this gen.

The Team that made the 360 great has long since left or been drowned out by the new team of Kenect and Adverts makers.

It's not going to be a case of history repeating itself and more a case of history continuing.

Very true. Many were either let go of or flat out quit. According to Christa Charter (Trixie360), these people were all replaced by middle managers from other branches of the company who didnt know jack shit about gaming and have no desire to learn.

Don't worry chum. This is a huge mistep from assholes in suits who don't actually play games. The Playstation 4 and XboxOne will flop and pc will save gaming.

I never understand how people say the 360 has better exclusives when the PS3 has such a diverse selection of exclusives and far more.  The PS4 looks to be going the same way.

Honestly, the 360 kind of turned into the COD machine, which is why IDK why people want the One for $100 just to play COD (ok, not everyone just plays COD on it, but all the big COD fans I know play it on their Xbox and PS3 owners I know play a lot of the exclusives for the system).

PC might be better in many ways however its always going to be a niche market. Just like Turtle Beach headphones being used over Sennheisers, the average everyday video game customer is going to perfer the simplicity of an all in the box plug & play system. Or unless of course the Best Buy and Walmart entry level PC and Laptop bundles start pulling off next gen games at at least next gen console quality. Sadly though, most of these setups can't even run current gen games. But even then. How many people actually keep their PC towers in their living rooms and how many of them would agree to suffer the KB/Mouse advantage over their gamepads?

well you see, people have different preferences.

Unfortunatly these preferences are only relevant to the console they bought. If Halo was a Sony game, the Lems would be hating it. Same goes for Titanfall or any game coming to the X1 instead. These people aren't fans of video games. Only corporations like they are god damned sports teams.

Pretty much wrong on all counts except the controller and that is subjective. I predict quite the opposite in fact. PS4 will out sell Xbone at least 4:1 at launch and Xbone will be playing catch up for the rest of its miserable console life.

"Better developer support for Xbox 360" Over 500 devs working on games for PS4 (http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/news/20130611_01E.pdf). Try again.

The upcoming software lineup for PS4 from software developers and publishers will include Destiny from Bungie, Inc., in partnership with Activision Publishers, Inc., Diablo® III from Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., KINGDOM HEARTS III and FINAL FANTASY® XV from SQUARE ENIX, Assassins Creed® IV Black Flag and Watch_Dogs from Ubisoft Entertainment, NBA® 2K14 from 2K Sports, The Elder Scrolls® Online from Bethesda Games Studios and Mad Max from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, totaling more than 110 titles. PS4 has earned great support from a wide variety of game publishers, including many indie developers. Since February 2013, the number of developers joining has increased from 126 to 505.

Yeah just like last gen, Sony will once again be behind in the OS and online areas.

Seems like the PS4 will be a great secondary console for the odd single player exclusive, for everything else the XOne

And yet the original Xbox games I was playing in 2005 looked better than anything from the 360 launch. What's your point? I'm for one not paying much attention to the launch because its highly irrelevant. And just like all three previous Sony generations, the launch games all flat out sucked. Not much of a point wasting money on a bunch of games that will sell like trash regardless when the consoles are going to sell out anyway.

ok so you dont take this seriously, i take Killer Instinct seriously, this game is going to keep evolving and evolving, its going to be big I have a feeling.    If you dont believe me, go to neogaf and look what the devs are saying about it.   Game technically is a real strong looking launch title.

360 had a great launch lineup.

call of duty 2, kameo, condemned, need for speed and  project gotham 3 were all a blast to play through and showed off next gen and then 3 months later oblivion which was one of the best games of the entire gen came out.

the 360 may have had the best launch lineup of all time.

Of course the devs are going to hype their own games. Its their game. Its no different than d-bags like David Jaffe hyping Da Cell in 2006. And funny how M$ wanted no part of KI when Don Murphy and the rest of the Rare team was pushing for it on the 360. This crap is like 2005/2006 all over again yet every game sold like shit and every game looked like shit compared to the 2006/2007 Xbox 360 lineup and later PS3 titles. Like I said in a few threads now. Launch games do not sell. Do you guys really think M$ and Sony are going to waste their best works on games that will end up selling in the red because there is not yet a decent userbase? KI was a last gen reject that sounds good as a launch title since the only people buying are the small percentage of die hards who would have bought the game anyway. We have not seen a fighting game revolution since the days of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and upright arcade machines. KI is pretty much nothing more than a next gen tech demo like any launch game. Its not like any money is put into these games though. The average cost of a 360 launch game was about 2 to 4 million. Then a couple years later, that number went up to about 20 to 40 million with Rockstar games hitting the $100 million mark.

Plus Killer Instinct a f2p game looks better than the whole entire launch library of PS4....   I always been a huge Mortal Kombat fan, but this Killer Instinct has me going

Compared to later titles, these all looked like junk and dev costs were very low. Have you ever took a look at their sales? Most if those games never even sold 1 million and the best seller (COD2) didnt even come close to 2 million. And funny how early 2005 original Xbox titles like Chaos Theory and The Liandri conflict blew every one of these games away.

Your right, except MS is Sony this gen. Sony focused on games and Xbox focused on media. I can't understand MS not focusing on hardware specs. I bought the original Xbox because it was superior to the PS2 spec wise and they got a pass this generation with the 360. And now they go and sacrifice some gpu specs for multi media features and that does not sit well with me. Honestly it may keep me from purchasing any next gen console.

Yeah just like last gen, Sony will once again be behind in the OS and online areas.

Seems like the PS4 will be a great secondary console for the odd single player exclusive, for everything else the XOne

Stop talking out your ass.

360 launched with PGR3, CoD2, Kameo, Condemned and NFS MW. Also Perfect Dark which was fun online, especially Infection. Not a bad launch at all.

Also, when the XOne and PS4 launch, getting games like Battlefield 4 and Assassins Creed 4 which the beefier graphics (higher player count in Battlefields case) is plenty justification to pick a next gen console up at launch.

ok so you dont take this seriously, i take Killer Instinct seriously, this game is going to keep evolving and evolving, its going to be big I have a feeling.    If you dont believe me, go to neogaf and look what the devs are saying about it.   Game technically is a real strong looking launch title.

It's a F2P fighter. It's going to die a miserable death in F2P hell.

yeah ok thats why half the devs in neogaf are all waiting to see who is announced today, they are going to keep this game going and going, its apart of the digital experience that Microsoft offers.    Why would anyone get a physical copy for anything other than collecting it.   Its there right, but man I know i wont buy 1 game physically this upcoming gen.

So I actually OWN the game. I really hope Microsoft put the DRM back in after about 3 years.

Good job oversimplifying things. Like this:

  • PS3 was slightly more powerful (on paper) than the Xbox 360, just like the PS4 is slightly more powerful (on paper) than the Xbox One. Yet this slight extra power was never truly realized in any games (the Gears of War series on Xbox 360 looks as good as any game on PS3).

Baurus_1

There was way more at play. In some aspects the PS3 was better while 360 had a better GPU. Now it seems PS4 is better in all aspects and it also doesn't have something like 'the cell' which was hard for developers to develop for.

if they do it will be an option and ill be always on to it....   day 1, i still own my digital content, works with Apple, will work with Microsoft.    I dont mind that you like to own it physically, at one time of my life i did too, its just im now a digital model citizen.

Don't forget: Sony losing more exclusives

Kingdom Hearts (main title) and Metal Gear Solid can now be played on Xbox day one.

Sony has nothing now.

Nobody actually cares about exclusives though. Unless it's pc, which usually means superior graphics and gameplay.

Yup.
The Wii:U looks an awful lot like the 360 and PS3 and slightly worse.
