Here I see a new genre definition of technological advancement.

Next gen technology growth versus new gen technology growth. Next generation growth focuses on [visual] refinement, where as new generation growth focuses on breaking down other barriers.

Which pattern do you want future growth trends to follow?

Dude. With the Playstation 3 you guide the gun. With the Wii you hold the gun.

That's not a gimmick.

So if Pong was beautiful, you'd say it was the best game ever? Makes no sense.

They both are equal, and will eventually need to be combined if virtual reality is ever going to become real.

Dude. Stop being so True Neutral.

In the future would you rather have Futurama virtual reality where you where in the game world but it looked like a videogame, or true to life visuals that look and act like real life except from behind a high definition screen?

yes coz no one comes to expect strong hardware and better graphics every generation.

new gen is the best coz it offers what next gen should, something new. better graphics are nothing new at all.

we get better graphics every generation, they will max out soon and we'll be stuck with games looking the same way but true innovation is in the gameplay.

Chaotic Good FTW!

Still, we can get both to happen. This question is purely academic, IMO.

In that case I'd go with new-gen, because I value gameplay more then graphics.

New gen.  Thanks to consoles like the DS and Wii, I tend to be more open to trying new game genres.... and I'm happy I am more like that now.  Plus, while many people seem to make fun of Wii for being a "new gen" console, I don't think they understand what that means.  That means that Wii is starting its own line of generations of sorts, and that it relies on innovative technology rather than superior technology.

I think the original Gameboy was the first all out New-Gen piece of technology since the Atari 6800.

It started a completely new gaming path that still continues today between the GBA, PSP, DS, nGage, Gizmondo, etc.

Controllers dont make games good and neither does graphics but developers can do a ton more with more power than less, I vote next gen. There is more than graphics to power.

I would have chosen new gen if the Wii was more powerful and/or cheaper....for $250 its the worst console in my opinion.

Oh your asking about future growth? Then lets just put it out of the way and say the Wii. Its good to concentrate on it, in orther to use both of those in the future. IMO a controller from this day and age wich has been used for the last 10 years, will not only hinder the growth of the gamplay as the games evolve, but it also won't simply catch up with the gaming oportunities games could offer in the future.

From what I've played of the Wii and SixAxiS so far, I prefer more power to different control.

Nope.Lilac_Benjie

In my opinion, Bloodlines was one of the most repetitive, agonizing games I've ever gone through.

I do want new gen because frankly if we keep "upping" the graphics gaming can become very predictable and stagnant, certain genres will die out as companies will focus on the more popular and profitable genres like shooters and fighters, and gaming will become mediocre. Of course, there is the risk of getting "gimmicks" which I don't like as well... but I'll risk it. If a gimmic turns out successful, then it'll stay. If it sucks then It'll die.
