Just look at Crysis now at MAX settings it's retarded good looking. in another 2-3 years just imagine. And then even imagine when developers start to tap the next Xbox a few years after launch. We will be seeing photo realism graphics in most games.

That would be Sony's claim to fame :P xbox will have Wall-E graphics! :o

For the next gen console hardware you should look at the PC today.
The dev cycles, size and cost restraints always stop consoles having bleeding edge. That said Crysis does look amazing and to see that on next gen consoles with new IP's is somewhat exciting.

It's too early to judge that. When we hear that the next generation consoles are in development, then we should judge based upon that day's top of the line PC technology. By their release it'll be slightly dated, but definitely a huge step up from what we have now. Now there aren't more than a few hints here and there at another console being in the works for either Sony or MS (or Nintendo), so I don't see one coming anytime soon.but then it wouldn't be fun, no one wants to play real life. Plus with shooters, that would be disgusting, I don't want to see actual blood and gore, leave it to cartoony chunks thank you. Don't care about photo realism, I just want fun games.
spinecaton
yep, +1.
i want this gen to last for as long as it can.
i play video games to escape reality

True that this is why a game like Borderlands I feel is going to be truly special.
The current gen is pretty high up in the uncanny valley, but I'd say we're still a while away from seeing true photorealism. If anything the PC will come first in showing the truth in photorealistic graphics, while no mention of either a new Xbox or PS3 makes this a pretty random topic.
Plus I think Xbox 720 might need to start using blu ray discs if they want to have larger games.

No way. PC already has that. More like 1600 FPS, 6D, and over 9000p.
*obvious sarcasm*
Sarcasm isn't needed here. We know it's a fact.. :P[QUOTE="PSdual_wielder"]
Trust me, they said the same thing about this gen back in 2004.

This. We're seriously about THREE Generations from "Photo Realism". Even Crysis is NOT Photo Realistic by any means.
No way in 3 gems we will be playing full blown vitural reality systems

i really dont care about increased detail, resolution(720p is plenty for consoles), etc...i just want a 60fps standard across all gameskidcool189i fully endorse this statement. id gladly give up a little graphical detail for 60fps. thats the only thing im really hoping for whenever the next next gen comes. but i couldve swore Sony and MS claimed most games this gen would run in 60 fps and we know that hasnt really happened.

Yes and games like Alan Wake and Heavy Rain already look freaking amazing so next gen games like that will defiantly be knocking at the photo realism door step.

no comment. lolI still to this day want to know what Kaz and Sony put in there pipe and smoked that had them claiming that. That was so LMAO:lol:
Any console that pushes the latest technology on launch next gen will regret it, they can barely afford exclusives to differentiate themselves as it is.
I thought this gen was supposed to be the MOST photo realistic.
At any rateI can hardly see past Crysis, I doubt gaming graphics could surpass that.
good point. console games do feel a little homogenized lately. whats the point of stuffing all that tech in the box if its outdated within a few months? i wouldnt be surprised if the next round of consoles are just slightly upgraded versions of the current ones.Any console that pushes the latest technology on launch next gen will regret it, they can barely afford exclusives to differentiate themselves as it is.

I dont care if the next gen Xbox drops and has s...e...x with me. Im not falling for MS RROD again. Too bad for them as I was one of the best customers. Sorry MS you lose me next gen.
Your sig is great. That thread is rather hilarious...

What's mad is that old post still exists in that thread to this day, but when I quoted it one time I had my post deleted and I was suspended for two days.

I can't wait for Next-gen graphics!!! Ya know, High Texture Detail instead of Medium. Max Draw Distance instead of 3 feet. 1080p instead of 720p or even lower. 2-8x AA instead of non. No blur effects. Some DX10/11 effects. Basicly everything the PC has now, just better.
Don't come up with that BS that there are games that run at 1080p, have AA etc. Name me 1 game that has EVERYTHING? 1080p, 4x AA, 16x Anisotropic filtering, let alone Ambient Occlusion and Tesselation. Exactly, not a single one.
"Next-gen" is available now punks, it's called PC.
punks? was that neccessary? lol. we all know that man. but were talking about consoles so, ya know.I can't wait for Next-gen graphics!!! Ya know, High Texture Detail instead of Medium. I know, I was getting pretty pumped up so I threw that in to finish my statement. I imagined Obama saying the exact same thing and how everyone else would feel pwned. I was hoping for the same effect.
I think we're more then one generation away from photo realism. I saw some tech demos for lighting techniques which looks really impressive. I think they were called ray-tracing, and photon mapping... something along those lines. They made things seem extremely real looking, but couldn't be done in real time at a practical level yet. I'd say give it 3 more gens or so.
With 800FPS and 4D?aaronmullani thought that games already depicted time.....and why do u need 800fps. most people cant see more than 60-80fps. i remember when i saw the first 360 commercial....it was advertising quake 4....and i was laughing cause my 300usd radeon 9550 with amd 2800+ and 2 gig of 400mhz ddr ram was running that game at max setting at 1024x768 with 25+fps. but still, i cant wait to see the next generation....i just hope that people optimize correctly for ps4, cause im play nfs shift right now and am gettin weird lag and stutters. oh well.
I hope they improve loading in games as well.mayforcebeyou
I think next gen loading games to the hard drive will be a full standard so this will help all games mostly.
There is a curve my friend.
Each generation the power of consoles doubles and perhaps even quadruples, but the differences become less and less noticeable, this is because we have already jumped to 3d graphics and about the only thing that is improving these days is lighting effects, texture details, sound and physics. Apart from physics (which is fairly standardised now anyway) everything there can only be noticed by looking carefully at details.
In other words, the improvement in performance and graphics is going to cost a lot more next generation for minimal improvement. We are at the top of that curve. I dare say console makers and developers are going to find more original ways to try and distinguish themselves from the competition, perhaps some kind of revolution... ohh wait.
Secondly, Crysis was a game that broke the bank in terms of production values, it went above and beyond conventional business practice in the videogame industry, not only that but it was on the PC, a system which the game can max out no matter how powerful with current technology while consoles will struggle to do HD resolutions even next gen, I bet... The game had open wide environments, realistic yet stylised visuals and flexible mix and match gameplay. All of that was met with mass piracy, the dregs of the video game industry who believe they deserve other peoples ideas for no reasons other than a lack of moral sense and arrogance. You wonder why people are experimenting with motion controllers? Because we have hit the glass ceiling and it isn't feasible to keep trying to push the boundaries in the conventional ways. Nintendo obviously wanted out of that folly, hence the wii and market share.
That's my shepherds pie, anyway.
