Granted, it's essentially just a guess but John Carmack knows what he's talking about, this is no Peter Molyneux.

I knew the PS3 and 360 would both see huge graphical jumps, but Wii U is just starting to get graphics able to compete with PS3 and 360, sadly.
Sold !!! :P
Though MS needs, needs to launch this thing holiday 2012 with Halo 4 as the Biggie.!!! :D
I agree, they also need a GREAT launch lineup. Kinect and maybe a halo game won't cut it for me.Sold !!! :P

So, I'm guessing another 399 at launch console.
Not again, MS. Not again. Gaming rigs have spoiled me. ;P
i highly doubt they maxed out the wii U with a demo and some launch games, likely the wii U has a lot of room above the 360/ps3I knew the PS3 and 360 would both see huge graphical jumps, but Wii U is just starting to get graphics able to compete with PS3 and 360, sadly.

Depends on your perspective. Some people say shogun 2 is technically superior to crysis.[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"][QUOTE="StealthMonkey4"]i highly doubt they maxed out the wii U with a demo and some launch games, likely the wii U has a lot of room above the 360/ps3 Doubt it. Why do you doubt when history has shown Nintendo have put good specs in all its consoles but the Wii.
No point in judging something by its immediate history instead of its overall history.
Ten times sounds a bit large of a jump, but whatever.paradigm68With the advancements in graphics technologies it is certainly possible. Since stream processors have been introduced raw processing capacity has gone through the roof.

The consoles became obsolete when Crysis came out, funny that you should mention that. Besides just Crysis though, there were a ton of high graphical fidelity games: Shogun 2, Metro 2033, The Witcher 2, Shattered Horizon, Stalker series(mods+), etc.Doubt it. Yet again a unfactual fact from you. Give some hard facts rather than a bad opinion. Because something doesnt appeal to you doesnt mean its bad nor the worst.

Oh and don't look now But I think it's Conker holding up one finger ? Eh, he probably just indicating he thinks your #1, I dunno. :P
I think you're all overesitmating this 10x as powerful. A current GTX 580 is roughly 10x the strengh of an 8800gts. Graphics have a little thing call law of diminishing returns. We've got to a point where you need to roughly double the power of a card to see a bit of a performance boost.
Don't think a 10x improvement over the Xbox 360 and PS3 is like going from a PS1 to a PS3, it's not. You'll notice the difference. Standard of 1080p at 30fps (because really 60fps for most console games is absolute overkill and you would rather have better graphics), more vareity in the textures, larger levels, things that the puny 512mbs of ram just can't handle right now.

Well, I'm not average.....
10 times more powerful does not mean games will look ten times better
Honestly for all we know the WiiU is ten times more powerful than the 360
I read the gpu was based off a 4850 in which case it will be one hell of a leap from current hardware, I would trust Microsoft/Sony's hype about power as much as I do Nintendo's revolutionary new ways of interacting.I knew the PS3 and 360 would both see huge graphical jumps, but Wii U is just starting to get graphics able to compete with PS3 and 360, sadly.

the basic principle of Moore's law is that the strength of hardware will double every 18 months to two years with no increase in price. So it came out in 2005, by 2007 new hardware should be twice as strong, in 2009, new hardware should be 4 times as strong, in 2011, hardware should be eight times as strong and in 2013 it should be 16 times as strong. This estimate of ten times seems to be on the conservative side, remember the original xbox was only 4 years old when the 360, a machine with 10 times as much ram, a processor that is dramatically better in every way, and a massively improved graphics card, came out.

Well said and nice to see common sense applied but it will probably get overlooked. Each subsequent gen we have had less of a leap from the gen before too which is also something to bear in mind, we may well not see the true potential of any new hardware until we start getting second/third generation games that are truly optimised.

I'm not saying I disagree or anything but.... Kameo, a launch game for 360 still holds up well today, and Gears came out, I dunno, mid 2006 ? So, just sayin. What I'm sayin ? I dunno. :PFrom what i have been seeing, I personally thing the jump between current gen and next gen consolesare not going to be as dynamic as peopleare hoping for.Crysis has set the par for graphics, I cant see a game looking a gen ahead of that for a while. Honestly whatI want to see next Gen is more open enviroment, the advancement of A.I in games and alot more things happening on screen.
I want them to look like that Samaritan demo :D, that's next gen compared to Crysis methinks, of course, it's not really open.. but I don't really care :D, crysis is really just Speedtrysis anyway. From what i have been seeing, I personally thing the jump between current gen and next gen consolesare not going to be as dynamic as peopleare hoping for.Crysis has set the par for graphics, I cant see a game looking a gen ahead of that for a while. Did you seriously just rank the Wii next to the Atari Jaguar, Atari 5200, Atari Jaguar CD, Sega 32X, Phillips CD-i, and the Apple PinPin? OH my.... I can't breathe...
Thats very possible. Moores law says that CPUs double in power every 18months. Its been about 72 months since the 360 debuted. I'm willing to bet that a Sandy Bridge CPU is 10x more powerful than a Pentium 4 (the gap between the two processors is about 5-7 years). The gap between GPUs is even greater.lhughey
The thing is that current CPUs should be sixteen times better than a six year old processor since the double is compounded each 18 months (although it's not quite that simple, particularly given the number of cores available vs number of cores used by games).
So, technically, a next gen machine that is 10x more powerful than its predecessor is well behind the general level of progress of the processing industry.

actually its usually the opposite, the rate of technological growth tends to decline over time.
Thats why video card manufacturers created SLI, to cope with a lull in graphics progression... they fall back on just having you shove more video cards in your system.
