I still can't get it dialed in to where I'm comfortable driving it. I've popped it in a few times now, and every session ends the same way - 15 minutes later, out goes Shift and in goes GT5P. Most of my gripes are with the steering (feels mushy, as though there's lag or something) and the FFB (it doesn't feel like 100% rack torque, which is my preference). I've never played any other sim that has this much oscillation in the steering. I might be happier with a gamepad, but at that point, I'd just play Burnout.[QUOTE="lowe0"][QUOTE="masiisam"]
Not to mention it's an excellent game…FFF gameplay (Fast,Fun,Forgiving)

Are you talking about Dirt 2 or Shift?
The only reason why I ask is my comment was directed towards Dirt 2…but in any event...I think I can help you with some settings that I found to work extremely well in Shift…
Ah. I didn't pick up on that. I haven't played DiRT 2; I'm not really the rally racing type. Sorry![QUOTE="masiisam"][QUOTE="lowe0"]I still can't get it dialed in to where I'm comfortable driving it. G25Lucky for some reason my Driving Force pro freezes the game when it's starting.

G25Try these wheel settings…
These are my current set-up…..They have evolved……..but I am confidant they are my last revision
Steering DZ: 1%
Throttle DZ: 0%
Braking DZ: 0%
Clutch DZ: 0%
Steering sens: 53%
Accel sens: 57%
Brake sens: 60%
Clutch sens: 60%
Speed sens: 35%
Force feedback: 10
That should clear it up for the most part…
From there it's nothing but tune…you could crank the down force and have perfect straight line/corner stability, but you will loose top end speed. Or combine "slightly" more down force with a "slight" toe-in (.5-1.0)(Toe-in will effect turn in…so if you get under steer on corner entry back it off in .10 increments) Everything is a compromise…So you might have to play around with it to get the desired results you are looking for.
I can promise you that all the cars in Shift are rock solid with a little tweaking and the game is a blast…
Actually Shift looks better in realtime. I've played both on my hdtv. To make things fair, I dropped the native resolution of shift down to 1600x900 instead of 1920x1080. That yeilds me a stable 60 fps with AA. These are raw captures I took with fraps. Note I'm using an 8800gtx 3 year old card.
More Shift pics to prove my point. The only edge GT5 has is a slight poly superiority. The car detail in GT is unparalleled because of the attention to detail and high poly count. However, the shadows and backgrounds are more detailed in Shift. This gives Shift a better overall look when you're actually playing the game at a fluid 60 fps. Shift also has arguably better lighting in some instances.
I actually prefer NFS shift. Dunno why._Cadbury_Me too, As much as I like the hardcore experience, GTR has tainted me. That won't stop me from enjoying GT5 when it's out. But I still prefer the high sense of speed in Shift combined with a few sim elements. It's the best of both worlds.
It's obvious Shift will win this, Because it's on PC, Or do people just like comparing console games to PC games?aero250
cuz it makes hermits feel all warm and fuzzy inside like a good Jack D and cola or a beer if you aint had one in ages xD.
really? which lads do you speak of? I think what impress me most is that GT5 can stand toe to toe with NFS:S on a good gaming PC, it says a lot about the team behind GT5. Overall it looks like there's a lot of good stuff for the racing fans out there.[QUOTE="masiisam"]
I really enjoyed Shift(just got to DL 50)..It looks great and is a fun game...but it looks like the lads from slightly mad have entered the building

Overall it looks like there's a lot of good stuff for the racing fans out there. It shouldn't impress you. Actually, Shift is the one that should impress you. It is a multiplatform game designed for so many platforms and yet with the help of a little AA, it goes toe to toe with an exclusive on the all powerful ps3 that has been in development long before Shift was even conceptualized. That speaks volumes about how underrated Shift really is. Alot of multiplats suffer this fate and get thrown under the bus even they might be pushing the visual envelope just as well if not better than some exclusives. I'm not saying GT5 doesn't look good. I'm just saying that more people should give credit where it is due. If NFS Shift was a pc exclusive, maybe you would have a point but even then budget and dev time of pc games pales in comparison to console games so it's still uneven ground. NFS Shift on pc is just a port of the console versions with a few enhancements.[QUOTE="masiisam"]

Also, the screenshots you see above were taken on my computer. Today, my rig isn't exactly state of the art. My video card launched a few months before the ps3(nvidia 8800gtx). I have only 2GB RAM. And yet NFS Shift looks that good on my machine. I don't think it's unfair to compare it to a ps3 exclusive where developers are pushing the hardware to the best of their ability. By most people's logic, NFS Shift in theory shouldn't even come close to GT5 even with all the AA in the world. But it doesn't work that way. Console hardware and even pc hardware is limited so devs choose to focus on certain things while compromising others. In the end, it's the overall look that matters. I think it should also tell you a lot about how the technology power gap between both consoles isn't as significant as people claim it to be. In the end, it all depends on the developer. It's hard to extrapolate if a said exclusive game on 360 cannot be made to the run on the ps3 or vice versa.
