Sony Shows that Games Run on Actual PS4 Consoles at Events With Pictures, Debunks Rumor on Using PCs

Sony Computer Entertainment is showcasing the PS4 in Italy at the Games Week trade show in Milan, and the staff at the booth finally decided to debunk the widespread rumor alleging that games at events and on demo stations are running on PCs and not on actual PS4 hardware (which would make very little sense anyway, considering that we are less than a month from the release of the console, but judging from the comments I read on many articles, some still seem to believe it).

They tweeted on the Italian PlayStation account twopictures, that you can see below. The first showcases the demo area, showing the usual blue cabinets that some still believe nicely filled with powerful gaming PCs. The second reveals the interior of the cabinets, with a PS4 unit running. From the label we can partially see at the top of the picture it’s playing Killzone: Shadow Fall.

The text of the second tweet (translated from Italian) says quite clearly:

To debunk a false myth: Inside the PS4 cabinets there are PS4s, not PCs.

There you have it. Straight from the lion’s mouth: time to find another rumor to spread, because this one’s pretty dead by now. Of course some games were demonstrated on PCs in the past, but at this stage there’s no reason to believe that’s the case anymore.

Of course, anyone with half a brain would see that PS4 games being reviewed along with every other platform would be anything but a sign of trouble.. Just freaking saying.

even if it was in a pc case the internals would most likely be 99% the same.

Poor launch lineup, missing so many features that the Xbox One has, Sony not shedding any light on the quality of the online service and how it measures up to the new Xbox Live which has dedicated servers, stuff like that. You can't even change the background picture.

Its the 27th of October. Almost exactly one month before the console is released, its worrying that this is the first that Sony have actively gone out of their way to make noise that this is "real" PS4 demo units in action.

@Snugenz: Not an alt, first thread I clicked on. It's just sad you try to get personal on an anonymous gaming form, really shows how much your existence is worth.

Skype, HBO Go, all that jazz. Then we have all the kinect functionality that PS4 camera doesn't have like heartbeat sensor and all that. Snap mode, etc. All the cloud functionality like smart AI in Forza.

Skype: great feature that is essential

HBO GO: I personally don't use it, useful for those who do.

All that Jazz: lolwut? (kidding)

Kinect Heart Beat: useless feature really for 500 bucks if kinect is your gateway way for fitness you could instead get 25 months of a membership at Golds gym.

Snap Mode: just a fancy way to say multitasking

overall people wouldn't be missing much feature wise getting wither console.

We're less than a month from launch... it would be crazy if demo stations would running on PCs.

It all adds up. Dedicated servers, much better and more apps, better multitasking. The thing is, aside from being slightly stronger, there really isn't much of anything that PS4 does better than Xbox One.

You know what real issues are? The Xbone costing $100 more while being weaker and bigger. Forcing a camera that many people don't want. Reliability issues (if any).

The Demo station i saw in Berlin was "running" on the playstation 4 console. However it did not work as it had broken after two days.

- I am not entirely sure that is any less crazy, but i guess the world will see in a month :)

I know that Skype is owned by Microsoft, but the PS Vita has Skype too.

I can understand that some people don't want to get into the Kinect gameplay but this is MS' vision and is pushing to evolve gaming.

Also, what if people wanted a different kind of controller for the ps4 or simply do not like the dual shock controllers (I personally do no like the thumb stick layout)? Would it be safe to say that Sony is forcing a controller that some people don't want? I mean, the controller has to account for some of the price so maybe they'd rather buy the ps4 for $340-$350 instead.
