The good: The Nintendo 3DS provides an impressive 3D gaming experience without the need for special glasses. There's a 3D effect slider, it shoots and displays 3D photographs with its dual back-facing cameras, and it has a single front-facing camera. The 3DS comes preinstalled with a bevy of software and StreetPass and SpotPass services, and it comes with a drop and charge dock. The eShop, including GBA Virtual Console, Internet browsing functionality, DSiWare transferring, and Netflix support, is coming in May.

The bad: The launch lineup is lackluster, and the disappointing low-resolution lenses provide grainy photos. The 3D effect can cause headaches for some, and it can "snap out" due to sensitive viewing angles and games that encourage movement. The 3DS has a very short battery life, and most Internet functionality isn't activated at launch. It's also expensive and may not provide enough value and functionality for those looking for an all-in-one device.

The bottom line: Though it's a bit pricey, the Nintendo 3DS successfully offers a glasses-less 3D experience that needs to be seen to be believed. A weaker-than-usual launch lineup and some inactivated online features dampen its launch, but the future certainly looks bright.

PSP 1000, 2000 and 3000 all got 4/5s.

Well well well.

Honestly I can't say I'm too too surprised. I think Nintendo really dropped the ball on the 3DS and I think their niche isn't going to sell like the touchscreen on the DS. Not only is 3D less enticing than a touch screen, its coming at $100 more. I think thats going to be a problem for Nintendo, especially since 3D won't change games like the touch screen did.

I remember someone said that the DS was special because every game that came to the DS had to cater to the DS since it had two screens, one of which could be touch controlled. Now, the NGP has the touchpad, 2 anologue sticks, a track pad, cameras, and gyroscopes built in.

Handhelds, IMO sell on novelty, and the 3DS's isn't as good as the NGPs.

The system looks good, but I am not buying it for the 3D effect alone especially with its tiny screens which is a big turn off for me, it's expected from Nintendo to have such a handheld, but when I look at NGP, I would literally spit on 3Ds.

Now the games, the announced games are good actually but sadly they are recycled games, a watered down console ports,if I wanna a consloe like experience on a handheld, NGP looks like the right place. I also believe the system will suffer Nintendo curse sooner or later, the games will be more and more Nintendoish.

I give it 2.5/5, may be that could change if I owned one, but why !

The only argument against NGP is "not as many games as 3DS" yet the NGP was only announced about a month ago.

My post was directed at the people saying "why buy this". Didn't say anything about the review in my post.

The NGP will probably have a much better launch lineup even if Uncharted isn't a launch game.

I will buy the 3DS when there are about 3 games that I must play. But I agree with the review, they are reviewing hardware and what they're describing isn't all that better than a PSP or an iPhone in terms of the device itself. I'm sure if the device had more functions like video playback (mp4, avi, etc), music playback (mp3, aac, etc.) then it would have rated a little higher. They seem to be reviewing it based off of other devices on the market

The launch titles are better than the Ds and MUCH better than the Ps3.

I will buy the 3DS when there are about 3 games that I must play. But I agree with the review, they are reviewing hardware and what they're describing isn't all that better than a PSP or an iPhone in terms of the device itself. Giant Bomb has a piece on the 3DS that's sort of a review too, if anyone's interested. Better and more thorough than the CNET thing.

He reports having a better experience with the 3D than in the past, which makes me more interested in that whole feature. Always put me off when he talked about eyestrain every time he used it.

Its the same price as the fat PSP and seeing as how its supposedly more powerful than both the PSP and the Wii I'd say the price is okay. And seeing as how casuals gravitated to the Nintendo DS because of its originality and the lower priced options it will be interesting to see how the 3DS does in the long run since it is the most expensive Nintendo handheld ever.

If the NGP is priced equally then there is a chance it could sell much more WW than the PSP has
