Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo and the advancements they've made in the video game industry. There have been plenty of good games that came out for their current gen Wii. I enjoy Brawl and I just started playing Zelda TP again after a long break from it. There was an incident that happened months ago where an oblivious friend of mine deleted my whole PS2 memory card. I was just in the middle of such games as RE4 and FFXII so this obviously was extremely upsetting. I decided since I have the time at night, to invest it in FFXII for a few hours a night and take a break from the wii.

After going through the first 8 hours of the game I came to the realization that I really was being deprived. Why can't games like FFXII be made for the wii? We need games with real depth and story, and some of you might proclaim "But Axel, Zelda HAS a good story". While that may be true, it does not stray away from the exact same characters and setting. When will it be time that we see something different come to the wii? A new franchise without any chains to the past? A current franchise that gets a complete face change? I want a game with a new hero, someone that I just dont follow for the 'gameplay' but for something that has charm and attitude. A CHARACTER that SPEAKS words would be nice, will Mario Link and Samus ever get their own personality they never say anything cept WA-who AYEAHHH and -shoots missle- **respectively**. Games with personality are the games that I love, and I haven't seen a game for the wii that even nearly eclipses the charming (and deep) characters the PS2 had and it's a bit disappointing.

Then elaborate on how I'm being so naive here. If you fully read the article and not just the title you'd know I'd be talking about depth in characters and imaginative story lines. If there's a wii game that you think has depth, defend that game, I'd love to hear about it and gladly follow up on a REAL argument

Everyone blames Nintendo. Yet apart from a small handful of 3rd party games, EVERY freaking good Wii game is made by Nintendo.

I can't say I agree with the topic. Nintendo is stronger than ever with their never changing characters and tweaked storylines for their main franchises. I do think you make some good points about the rather static characters, but honestly, it is the gameplay that pushes the games. Alot of people who play these games obviously don't care about characters who don't talk, or else they wouldn't sell in record breaking numbers.

I'm with you in the sense that I don't want to see an indepth storyline about Mario and the Princess, but a new franchise with characters to relate to and empathize with would be nice. I'm pretty sure Nintendo could do whatever it wants at this point and it would continue to have the insane following it does.

It would be nice to see something completely new since we are very aware that Nintendo is capable of making some incredible games, but I believe that most consumers like the familiar and hence why when Mario is slapped on a Tennis or Bowling or Lawn Darts game, everyone buys it...even if the same game came out with different characters and no one would give it a second glance.

Hopefully it's just a matter of time.

Nintendo always releases a new series or two, as well as brings back the old ones.

NES

Super Mario

Zelda

SNES

StarFox

Mario Kart

N64

Smash Bros

Paper Mario

GameCube

Pikmin

Metroid Prime

Wii

?

no more heros would be something to check out the TC. its flawed..it has some probalems and its also not an RPG. but one thing it does have is character and personality. oh and its a bit weird.

but yeah i see ure point. i would love a big FF adventure..or an elder scrolls game (more morrowind than oblivion) or something like that on the wii. ninty themselves dont really do RPGs (and as a company they spend more times on the nuts and bolts of gameplay rather than spending money on giving the game character with great writing and such like) so itll be up to 3rd parties to fill that gap.

I agree it's all about the economics and the the money flow. People agree with the familiar and are in a sense afraid to risk their dollar in unknown territory. However I feel that is the same feeling that started games to begin with, people didn't know what to expect from certain games, and the experiments that came out brilliantly became the franchises that are known today. The problem nowadays is that we just experiment with new hardware, yet leave the software the same way (at least for most series) it was a decade ago, with only a few tweaks and characters. Maybe we need a better way to distribute demos of new games so they reach the masses and inform them that there are indeed deeper and more lengthy games worth trying!

Obviously, don't think he was saying otherwise. It might seem like the ONLY game worth checking out to appease his desires on the Wii. OP, let us know what you think of No More Heroes.

So you want RPG's? You bought the wrong system. meetroid8

Not all games with characters who "speak" and have "depth" are RPGs. Please check out Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts.

The wii has a bevy of RPG's flooding in soon, they should give you your story fix.

As for nintendo's main franchises, they have never really been about story, so they may be lacking if thats what you like.
