Its pretty obvious by now that Nintendo has ditched the HC crowd and is aiming for the casual market, vise decision as a company but bad for us true gamers.

Wii has been nothing but a failure when it comes to games and technology. The "new innovation" has flopped when the best Wii games are better with traditional controls rather than gimmicky motion controls that doesn't work properly and always gets shafted in reviews.

There is how ever one way Nintendo can redeem themselves and make it truly everyones console again by really supporting the HC audience next time around. How you ask? Well here you go:

Make a truly next gen Mario, with HQ visuals, dark world and add some story to it. Make the motion controls more like Sony, where they just add a little variety in games but not being the main control method.

The Wii is a fad.

Nintendo does not need to radically reinvent themselves. For starters, they obviously do not need to grovel at the core gamer market to survive, since they are doing more than fine right now.

Second, isn't the fad thing overplayed yet? Its been 3 strong years, and every year people say that the fad is dying, coming to an end, going to die, etc. Can't we just accept that the Wii is a strong system, and that it just targets something different?

Third, the Wii does have quality games, its just most get ignored. Granted, there could be some more of them, but it has quite a few great games right now if people bothered to look.

Compared to the AAAA games of the N64, the Wii seems like one of those mattell 3-up consoles

My main problem with the Wii is how unneeded the waggle is in some situations, feels very forced. For example, Paper Mario was ruined by the Wii. Turned what was an amazing game, into something that couldn't even be recognized as a Paper Mario, all because they were looking for an excuse to use waggle.

I stopped reading when you mentioned "true" gamers. The Wii is good enough for me. Guess I'm a false gamer.

Yeah Agree with this. Its one thing to say the wii has less quality games then the 360 and PS3, but its complete crap to say it has no games and has failed to the hardcore market.

And a mario game like that would be completely stupid IMO. Just makes it look depressing. Just keep mario as a cartoon

Yup, gaming since '77 ... but evidently I'm not a `true gamer'.

Funny, as I gamed in grade school, high school, some in college, just barely in grad school, more after schooling, and now as much as ever as a parent. Gaming has stayed with me through decades, getting a real job, getting married, having a kid ... but evidently I'm not a real gamer after 30+ years.

Funny how people I would say are new to gaming are terming me `not a true gamer'. The hubris of youth, I guess.

If that's how it is, I guess I'm not. Hardcores can have that term, as eventually most of them will quit gaming [as history has shown me, watching my peers]. Hardcores come and go, some of us game for life. Term that what you will, we'll be having the most fun over the longest period to care.

Nintendo does not need to radically reinvent themselves. For starters, they obviously do not need to grovel at the core gamer market to survive, since they are doing more than fine right now.

Great post.

#1 - Why cater to the small % of the market that complains the most? Who find fault with everything?

#2 - Wii =/= fad. It's lasted too long, grown too large, and if the console winner this generation is a fad --- then gaming overall must be a fad.

#3 - So many good games are completely ignored by gamers, it's pathetic. I guess it's not a _RPG or shooter, so I guess they don't count ... but the Wii has plenty of titles that are just ignored, GS doesn't even review a number of good games.

All this crap was silly 18 months ago, sure sounds like sour grapes to me. Gaming has grown and now covers a wide range of people ... it's a shame that some people still think they're the only ones who should be gaming. In that case, then gaming will have to shrink to fit this elitist market.

I don't remember any real serious waggle fails in Paper Mario... mostly you didn't use the waggle just the pointer if I remember correctly.

When you get frozen or something, you had to waggle to get unstuck. But whatever, it's not a big deal, you're already holding the Wiimote in the correct position. On topic, that's one fine Peach.

Sir, that is without a doubt the worst idea I have ever seen, read, or heard of.

That's not bad at all. It's one thing is a main gameplay mechanic is mapped to waggle... it's another if you only do it a few times though the course of the game.

I really enjoy Super Paper Mario, though not as much as the originals, but mostly because of the gameplay, not the waggle.

It Wii has certainly passed the stage considering how strong is has been for 3 years now. Now that 3rd party developers have truend in the Wii's direction, I think we'll see more well-incorporated motion control. There are few games that really use it well, but I think that will change.

It seems one of the prevailing opnions is that Nintendo "abandoned" some set of it's audeince when I went for a new demographic. I don't agree. Expanding to a new audience doesn't mean abandoning the old one. Nintendo has still released games in it's core franchises, trying to provide innovative games, add in a sprinkle of mature titles, and try to make sure everyone is having fun.

I've said it before and say it again . Nintendo must go on with the Wii and release a new console side by side with the Wii , a HD full-spec crysis capable killer machine featuring a Cry-engine3 Zelda and Mario game . Nintendo has the means and the money to support two consoles at once .
