That's the only logical explanation at this point. They are throwing out moves that everyone knows will end badly, yet they still do it. The Wii u was the beginning of the colossal flop Nintendo has become. Yes, I know the Wii u has its moments, I own one, But for gods sake I have not used it in 6 months. No third party support, no GOOD online network, connection options from 2008, etc. WHY.

You may be asking why am I ranting now? Well,

Star Fox Zero

That was the only game i was looking forward too this year, and ratchet and clank destroyed it. It looks terrible. Nintendo is just ruining IPs now. I have about one hope left for the company and thats the NX. If they mess that up I guess i wont be buying anything from them again. Its just sad man. They had everything set up for them. They had the IP, the resources, the headstart, The name brand, The third party interest. They ruined themselves, and ruined the brand in the process. Ask any person on a street if they own a wii u. I see young children who dont even know what Nintendo is. Its just so sad a brand that was my life as a kid became this. Such a damn shame....

Forced motion controls killed any hype I had for Star Fox Zero. Also, who the hell wants to constantly look up and down while playing games? So annoying. While I respect Miyamoto, the truth is dude is past his prime. He hasn't made anything truly special for quite awhile now.

Give the game a chance to come out... And also, stop caring about graphics. It doesn't make good games.

I reckon they did that..so that they can say they have games that uses the gamepad functionality. I'll wait for reviews before killing it off..my main concerns is what was mention the previous thread, not so much the motion control...the "how you need to re- center the target reticle...and how on TV screen the reticle will go beyond your TV screen *if I read it right*..& force you to look at your gamepad...:P

Am I supposed to be impressed? They are simply solid new installments of already established franchises, nothing special.

I am tired of hearing about how bad Star Fox Zero looks and that Adventures was the best game ever. I agree with you about most of your opinion and you have every right in your own opinion about the game, the console, and everything else. I don't blame you, I am not trying to be a fanboy, I am sorry you are upset, and everything else. However, WHEN DO NINTENDO FANS EVER CARE ABOUT GRAPHICS?! It blows my mind, and I am tired of everyone complaining about the motion controls too. I'm sorry they are forced, but guess what? Don't let one stupid control scheme get in your way about the game as a whole! Get the heck over it! I heard that the motion controls are actually really good! Why does everyone think that not so great graphics makes the game bad as a whole?! At least it runs at a consistent 60fps! Yeah cows, PS4 can't run 1080p graphics at a consistent frame rate for most of it's games. Maybe the game will get good reviews, AAE? And vote with your wallet! Nintendo might bounce back, they might not. Mobile gaming is killing the console market for a reason you know! Minecraft has became so dang popular now that kids these days are too ignorant to even know what the heck a Mario, Sonic, Master Chief, and even SONY's lineup even is!! RC came out this week and SFZ comes out the next, in what way is RC dominating? Graphics? Textures? Gameplay overall? Sales? Everything? SFZ and RC are completely different things, in fact the reviews for SFZ are not even out yet! How is RC dominating Fox and the gang when SFZ isn't even out yet? And I understand that Adventures was the best Star Fox game, but WHERE WAS THAT LOVE WHEN IT NEEDED IT THE MOST?!!! WHERE WERE YOU GUYS??!!! JONTRON HAS SPOKEN ALREADY!!! THE GAME IS CONSIDERED BAD!!! And Nintendo is not trying to ruin their IPs. The dumb fanboys from the past and present are conflicting their initial judgements from on what to do with those IPs.

Whew, I'm sorry. Really sorry. I just couldn't hold it in anymore. I don't blame you for having all of these opinions, and I think you are mostly right about the subject. Why should I even care about Nintendo anymore if all I see on this god forsaken place called the Internet is that they stink and that they are no good and that everyone hates them? I might as well get a PS4 for Christmas if the NX doesn't have what I want.

Pretty much. They should have given gamers an option to play the game with a standard control scheme. It wasn't hard to make SF:Zero a solid game. Just make it like Star Fox 64, but prettier and bigger.

Didn't move the goal posts at all. I specifically said he hasn't made anything truly special for quite awhile now. Pikmin 3 and Luigie's Mansion Dark Moon aren't game changers. They are not revolutionary like a Super Mario 64.

Star Fox looks much better after initial review, but that even shocked hardcore fans on how bad it looked. Hopefully final product will do justice to IP.

No. I'm talking about a certain poster who keeps making hate threads about Star Fox Zero. Apparently one account isn't enough to vent said hatred. For some reason he thinks it's appropriate to compare SFZ to R & C for some odd reason.

@Zen_Light: Yeah. I feel better now than how I felt in my initial post. I think the game will do just fine. GameXplain feels pretty good about it, I feel pretty good about it, and I think I might get it for the heck of it. We should all be happy that Nintendo didn't throw this IP under the water like the other franchises that didn't sell well. Who knows, maybe F-Zero is next? F-Zero ZX? Because that sounds like a good title.

What's so strange is what the haters are focusing on: graphics. They've really cleaned them up over the past few months. They don't talk about the gameplay, or what Platinum games are bringing to the table, just piddly shit like the alleged forced gyroscope controls.

Anyone who's gamed longer than a few years should know how awesome SF64 was, but most new gamers don't have a clue as to what's good and don't know how to properly assess what makes a good game. The previews from those that have actually played the game say it's a solid entry in the series.

Kind of Sad that Star Fox Zero was the only game you were looking forward to the WiiU this year.

I'm not saying WiiU has a lot coming out for it, but There's other games on the WiiU that are coming out and already came out this year.

What bothers me about Nintendo in the recent past is they've made it clear they're willing to compromise the integrity of their IPs and software when they're not raking in the dough or hit difficult times. Bare bones Mario Tennis. Metroid Federation Force. I don't know about Starfox yet, but it does look like a low budget, half-assed effort. Nintendo's IPs are their bread and butter, and I'd think they'd take a bit of pride in them than to sell them out to the LCD. I mean, they're not even losing money, and have billions in reserve. They're profitable as far as I'm aware. Their conservatism right now is not a virtue that is benefiting their business, but is oftentimes directly harming what makes it what it is.

I find myself asking after seeing some of their games, "Where has Nintendo's pride gone?". That is what is really depressing when I look at them today. While they do still put out quality games here and there, overall it feels like they've lost (or are losing) their way. I hope NX changes things.

@hybrenated: You see , Wii wasnt only Nintendos downfall was MSs also.

MS fall for this motion controls trend Wii popularized and they tried to make a system that will offer everything Wii did ( casual appeal , motion controls ) with what Wii couldnt ( hardware strong enough to handle good graphics , 3rd party support , better online and multimedia capabilities ) , therefore the brand name Xbox ONE ( one for all i suppose ) and look X1s state as we speak.

All in all , despite the fact that Wii was a commercial success , it was the main reason why Wii U and X1 failing hard at this point imho.

As for Wii , it managed to be the first console in history that despite its amazing sales , both software and hardware , and despite its amazing profits DIED ( or went into serious life support even ) way earlier than the dead last on console race of that generation. And still , they thought that would work twice ? I think that even if Wii U had x3 the sales it currently has STILL would be in the life support it is now. Its proven that Nintendo doesnt give a shit after some point and Wii is the proof on that.

All in all , i have faith with NX. Faith because they need to reset this Wii BS formula and to actually try to compete for once let alone not let their system die out of nowhere way earlier than it should. Time will tell , we will see. E3 is close.

Graphics do not make good games, but its difficult not to be thrown off when a big console franchise looks like a N64 game this gen.

How often do ANY game designers put out anything truly revolutionary? Most games we see these days are either adding a new twist to an existing formula or refining what we already had, if we're lucky. Every few years we might see a game that truly shakes things up, but that's incredibly rare.

"Truly special" is a vague ass description to begin with, but I do understand what you're getting at. Still though, would you expect Miyamoto (or any modern video game designer for that matter) to match or eclipse Miyamotos past achievements when he was at the forefront of a rapidly expanding industry? Really dude, we're talking about a time when new genres were emerging regularly and the tech was increasing so rapidly that it could accommodate new game types. Not like these days in which most genres have safely settled into place and the tech advancements are like baby steps by comparison, usually being used to squeeze out slightly better graphics.

I won't argue against you saying that dude is past his prime. Fresh creative ideas with strong underlying fundamental design choices that happen to appeal to a wide audience, that's not the kind of shit you just go into the office and crank out. You either have it or you don't. Miyamoto doesn't have it anymore. Most game designers never had it to begin with.

But does that mean that dude is so over-the-hill that he can't be a game designer, or at the very least, serve as guidance for a younger team? Nah, **** that man. He's still more creative than the majority of game designers out there. He still understands what makes a game tick.

Dude is still good to make games, he doesn't have to reinvent the wheel every year or dunk on his own past mega-accomplishments to do so.

@emgesp:

It isn't forced and isn't necessary. Think of the gyro as a separate analog stick for aiming. This creates more depth. It isn't like you are wildly moving the controller. You do not have to play this way, but for more advanced players it is a plus. Complaints ts on this matter are similar to those that thought the n64 analog stick was a bad idea.

Didn't move the goal posts at all. I specifically said he hasn't made anything truly special for quite awhile now. Pikmin 3 and Luigie's Mansion Dark Moon aren't game changers. They are not revolutionary like a Super Mario 64.

I just think at this point Miyamoto is just getting in the way. It's time to give the young guys more creative freedom without him having to muck shi* up like he did with Star Fox Zero by insisting on the dual screen control scheme. This game would have been better if Miyamoto was never involved.

IMHO, he needs to retire already and the same can be said about Vince McMahon from the WWE. They both use to do amazing things, but old age has caught up to them and the mojo they once had is now gone.

Gyro aiming is fast, intuitive, and insanely accurate. It's a shame most people will never discover it. Same with pointer controls on the Wii. I wish this had been the one innovation that remained or was copied by other companies. Resident Evil 4 without the wiimote pointer is something I never want to experience.
