Nintendo gets achievments

It has been confirmed that Metroid Prime 3 will have achievments, not unlike MSs live achievments. You will gain these from scanning enemies and objects, along with defeating boss battles.

Unless this comes with a gamerscore or something to that effect that is visible to your Nintendo friends, then it seems like semantics. A lot of games have unlockables and thus if it is only for your eyes, so to say, then this is nothing more than an unlockable. The uniqueness of gamer points on the 360 is how your friends can check it out and the score and what not.

You can actually share your medals with friends. That's why MP3 has WiiConnect 24 functionality.

Didn't the article say that you could send "medals" to your friends and they could then unlock stuff? Regardless, this is still in-game (at this point in time) and specific only to MP3 at the moment.

Metroid Prime has always had unlockable parts based upon achievements (mostly scanning) throughout the game. Now there's an online component that allows friends to share this, that is all, it's nothing like the XBox idea of achievements from what I've seen.

Achievements/medals/badges/rankings have all been around as long as gaming. Microsoft was the first to put them onlione for all to see. Thats the only difference.gromit007

What makes achievements fun is that every game is required to have them, thus they are a standard on the 360 platform. The fact that they are online means nothing more than online leaderboards.

For some reason I'm picturing a chalk board with all the wii codes on it and little star stickers next to each name.

Sony ripping off MS with standard achivments is one thing, but nintendo doing it now too? so much for teh innovationhtekemerald
