All these "hardcore" gamersb***h and complain about the 'shovel' ware that is on the Wii and how it's not similair enough to the PS3 and Xbox360.

These "hardcore" gamers seem to have forgotten they played games like this when they where little kids, simple controls, simple gameplay, crappy graphics and child like game themes.

Have they ever stopped to consider they have"out grown" them and they have been weened on more harcore sophisticatede "mature" games.

We didn't have that many FPS back then - Crysis. Halos, Doom, Halflifes, sandboxes GTAs

interactive rpgs- FallOut 3, Resident evil...etc

If Nintendo had followed suit on what the other companies where doing they would simply try to cater to the exsisting past core audience and completley forget about the new generation of gamers who havn't been introduced to gaming yet.

This new "casual"generation will become accustomed to playing games as the "harcore" have and their tastes and skill will further evolve and they would move on to the more sophisticated gaming machines out there.

I think it's the hardcore audience who complain about Nintendo's library that really wasn't intended for them are acting like old dinosaurs and are really becoming long in the tooth.

These "casuals" will eventually replace the Hardcore gamers anyway....

Sheep understand this it's not about the technical hardware, or blazing graphics- it has and always be about fun and the games.

allways!!!

all gamers started out as casuals....

I remember paperboy when I was a kind on the SNES awesome game, but then I grew up and Nintendo never grew up with me, so money went to the company that did.

And my PS3 right now is all about the fun and games! its just not catered for the pre-pubescent, which is why sony has my money and not Nintendo.

I'm thinking about getting another DS, but as far as consoles are concerned, I'm pretty much done with Nintendo. I have no interest in their games at all anymore.

The odd thing is that they stopped supporting nintendo, and then complain when Nintendo doesn't care about the core anymore... perhaps if you bought the GC, and bought their core games they wouldn't have given up on you...

Hmmm people will point out we didn't all start as casuals. I for example started as an addict on the c64. And those games weren't exactly easy (to figure out) for me at my age (plus getting a game to run and the stupid tv i had to finetune). But that doesn't mean You're wrong about drawing in a new crowd.

I think You'll also hear about gamers starting off with nonkiddy games. The shootings and bang bangs are very popular among kids. But i personally LOVE! the positivity radiating from (example) New super mario bros. Everything looks happy and the enemies hop in rhythm with the music. It really cheers me up. I don't think it's people growing out of nintendo while gaming, i think the society is changing, and people want things faster, more coolness and seriousness, more competition and explosions. Look at how movies evolve, and cartoons. They are very hectic and aggressive these days.

People will point out that graphics don't detract from a game and can add to the fun and gameplay. So i suggest You make clear Your point is that it isn't about graphics at all, though they can add to the fun and gameplay. We rarely see that happen though, which is funny since graphics seem to be the number 1 focus this gen.

graphics ?

then if it was about graphics you wouldn't have so many people buying the Wii- maybe it's because of the simple accessible gameplay that's the real draw.

the person demonstrating a golf swing or imitating fishing seems to haqve drawn more crowds at shopping malls than some tech demonstration.

cartoons and movies have always been hectic and aggresive the themes havn't changed just the looks- westerns were all the rage because of the gun fights and boy counts, Gi Joe was a pretty violent cartoon with explosions an military - know different then today.

I'm not pointing out that Nintendo started this gaming trend the point is that we have started on humbler systems back in the days.

10 years from now we will have people call the PS3 and Xbox360 crap for their archaic gameplay lack of actual 3d images, and limited static environments and mainstories because they lacked the constant episoic content.

It's very successful this gen so of course they'll do it next gen. Reverting back to something they had trouble with doesn't make much sense.

its funny coz i'd consider a lot of games on my PS3 targeted at the pre-pubescent, Socom, Warhawk, Resistance, Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, ... a lot of them

the thing i don't like about this gen, and the HD console is particular, is the games are just pimped out versions of old designs, and god i hate using analog in shooters so that takes out a huge amount of quality games this gen to me

i mean, a lot of games, Resistance, Socom, Gears, these online multiplayer frag fests (especially COD and KZ2) seem to easy to me, too dumbed down. Why the **** does my screen go red and i can simply stay away from fire and heal? thats stupid. i like my shooters like MGO, where you can't really heal yourself, or stuff like TF2 where you can heal yourself, but often you need help from a team mate (yes i know games like KZ2 do the same, but no one i've seen online ever concentrates on helping others, plus analog, eww)

the only people i see shooters marketed at are teens, and young adults, and while i like a good shooter, i don't like these shooters.i don't mean to stereotype but its like targeting the people who go see Transformers, Iron Man, and all the summer blockbusters, which can be very fun, but i'm always wanting something moreBenjamin Button, the Wrestler, or Milk.

I suppose this goes back to the theme of this thread, I grew out of "adult"or games aimed towards "adults" like shooters on consoles, and i really am having fun with games this gen like PixelJunk Monsters, Worms, Zack & Wiki,Boom Blox, World of Goo, Comet Crash.

( i think Fat Princess and Crash Commando are cool new takes on the Shooter/deathmatch type of game,FP looks fun and CC is a whole lot of fun)

nintendo shouldn't grow up with its former gamerbase .. it's expanding its audience instead, which is the best thing us 'hardcore' gamers still get quality like mario galaxy, SSBB and zelda TP yet they still need to cater for the next generation of core gamers

i think games in general have gotten more non-gamer friendly, i've been playing some megadrive games, and although simple the difficulty is mental. You just don't get games that difficult any more even when playing on high settings (with some exceptions).

I don't think nintendo have forgotten the core at all, they will still release all their big games that everyone wants, they are just also releasing non gamer games to reach the maximum possible audience. My wii has the least games currently out of my 3 consoles and pc, but i could easily buy alot more for it, i just don't need any more games right now.

I have yet to pick up a Nintendo system (that's not a certain headache-inducing machine) and hate it. The N64 and Gamecube got the same treatment most original games get. They don't sell well even though they're awesome.

The Wii, while not having a ton of great games, still entertains me a lot.

My money has gone elsewhere, but I still put money aside to buy the new Nintendo consoles and handhelds because they haven't disappointed me yet.

I'm just hoping they modify it slightly. A few simple things would make it very accessible to developers while retaining the same appeal of today. GIve it decent HD graphics, as by that time HD should have a bigger presence than it does currently, and giving it similar graphical power to the others (or at least slightly comparable so that games aren't drastically different in physics etc) won't alienate developers from putting multiplats on it. If they did that and put a standard controller AS WELL AS their Wiimote-esque motion controller, then that would probably be another way to help developers, so you don't necessarily have to shoehorn Wiimote controls into the game. If they could manage to do those and keep the launch price decent ($300 maybe), I think they could seriously grab a lot of third party support (assuming the multiplat trend continues with growing development costs) and be a beast in all respects. Not really criticizing the Wii though. Heck, out of my 3 current gen consoles, I have, by far, more games on the Wii. I just think the console would be a behemoth if they had done at least one of the two. I guess I'd like to see more of an amalgamation of past and present. A traditional control scheme and power combined with the accessibility and introduction of an optional motion control scheme...oh man.

Nintendo's problem is they really just don't know how to grow up. Gaming has changed and evolved a lot since snes, but I don't really think nintendo has changed much since then.
