http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1215214p1.html

That link leads to IGN's article detailing a list of memorable Nintendo ads. Now I want you to watch this video in the following link and tell me the Wii was not a change of pace for Nintendo? Any company that had slogans like "Now you are playing with power" or "Get N or get out", obviously was once upon a time a company focused on tech and the core gamer. Not saying all hope is lost, as the Wii had some pretty good games, but more importantly, they seem to be bringing it back with the 3DS. Here is to hoping the WiiU is awesome with tons of great core games.

Fail troll is fail

How is that "trol"

They failed the consumer... Are you going to tell me the Wii is better than the GC or N64.

The Wii had great games but pitiful third party support.

The Wii U has a very uncomfortable looking controller. The only thing Nintendo recently did right was lower the 3DS's price and localize Xenoblade.

Lol I change the topic title and BAM! "A new troll approaches!"

Seriously though, I loved that attitude Nintendo used to have. "Get N or get out!" how awesome is that!? With that said, they had some pretty great commercials with Other M and Skyward Sword.

Yes, the wii is far better than the GCN, far more exclusives, in fact the wii has more highly rated exclusives than BOTH the PS3 and 360. N64 is subjective, it was another great console.

Third party has nothing to do with nintendo "losing their way," they pumped out a ton of fantastic games this gen.

Uncomfortable LOOKING controller? Until you've held it, suck your own tongue, everyone who's ACTUALLY held it says it feels great, and Nintendo ALWAYS has ergonomic controller ;)

This is the theology that lets Nintendo get away with making terrible hardware.

The N64 and GC were not perfect for third party software but they had it in addition to amazing games.

Nintendo are not the holygrail of video game developers. Retro and Rare were great for the GC, N64. Many games are better than first party titles they push out, stop lionizing them.

SMG was amazing but are you saying Kirby for the Wii is a crowning achievement in game design?

They used to focus more on the hardcore, yes. But they've actually made some incredible "hardcore" content for the Wii. I mean, yeah, the system lacks multiplats and focus' a lot on the casual gamer but it still has some really great exclusives.

Nintendo's soft core content is actually pretty decent, imo. Nintendogs was very creative and well implemented. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are great to play with family / non-gamer friends. I'm more concerned about how the industry is being dominated by yearly COD releases and cheap 99 cent iphone apps.

Examples of 2nd party and 3rd party games outdoing Nintendo games.

Banjo Kazooie > Mario 64 so hard they canceled the sequel.

Dinosaur Planet was looking to outdo Ocarina of Time so Miyamoto shoehorned Starfox into it to make Rare push the game back to the GC as Starfox adventures

Man I do miss the good ole "hardcore" days, I think N64 was truly the last system I mostly enjoyed but not sure if it was because I was younger and had more time or the quality of gaming was just top notch back then. I'm hoping they can bring that back with Wii U, I'm tired of 1st parties becoming easier and easier to beat.

A company must know how to manage there 2nd and 3rd party developers, specially if there IPs are being used or otherwise they get screwed (Metroid Other M, I still liked it jiji). Ofcourse you will get some trash games but seariously, would capcom, square, blizzard... etc. be able to put a console on the market and keep it alive with ther IPs like Nintendo does. I don't think so

Jag85

Banjo Kazooie was much better than Super Mario 64 (which was an amazing game).

Ocarina of Time is better than Starfox Adventures because Starfox Adventures was the product of a Miyamoto jealous and scared that Dinosaur Planet would outdo his critically acclaimed Ocarina of Time, a Miyamoto who feels that Nintendo IPs are so grand a game needs them for success, or some other reason Miyamoto had.

Watching bits of Dinosaur Planet N64 it had a pretty good chance of outdoing OoT.

Banjo Kazooie was a decent platformer, but I didn't see anything in it that would put it on the same level as Mario 64, and neither did most of the critics for that matter. As for Dinosaur Planet, you're saying that it would have been a much better game just by changing the mascot character? That sounds way too far-fetched. Besides, many games have tried to out-do Ocarina of Time and nearly all of them failed.

Besides, many games have tried to out-do Ocarina of Time and nearly all of them failed.

Ummmm Banjo Kazooie is rated higher on Gamespot than Super Mario 64...

Dinosaur Planet was not just a change of mascot character they added aton of **** that would not have been in their and the game would have been better as Dinosaur Planet judging by the gameplay.

No. I couldn't get past the title without falling on the floor laughing.

So you're insinuating Nintendo isn't hardcore? :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Although I do not agree with his context, his point is correct, how is Nintendo Hardcore at the moment?

Nintendo made sure the game has zero to no advertising on the GC and that there was no hype wave to ensure Starfox adventures failed.

Good to see you Char !

Man Banjo, all this talk about Star Fox being incorporated into Dinosaur Planet makes me mad. I did not like the new direction of Star Fox with that game at all.

\ New direction? it was the only game in that direction unless you think Assault is in anyway similar.

GameSpot is the only reviewer that did. Nearly all the others rated Mario 64 higher. As for Dinosaur Planet, how can adding stuff to it destroy the game? It probably wouldn't have been all that great to begin with, with or without the Star Fox name attached.

What's hardcore? I'd say the NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube were all 'hardcore' consoles. The Wii is more casual but still has a handful of hardcore games. What have they done hardcore this gen? The latest Mario and Zelda games are still hardcore, and so are many of their first-party games like Xenoblade Chronicles.
