Nintendo is single-handedly getting rid of most bad PR games usually receive.

We all know the "GTA/Halo is too violent", "GOW is too brutal", "Burnout teaches kids to drive fast" rubbish that the media discussed all throughout last gen, which didn't stop the PS2 from selling 110 million consoles.

Now all the media talk about is how great Wii is for gaming:

• Wii is all about fun.
• Nintendo make a comeback with family friendly Wii.
• Wii is fun for all ages.
  

The market for games like GOW, GTA, Halo etc are not going to disappear but the Wii being in the market has changed the general public's view of gaming for the better. Bringing new people into the market is a great thing as it encourages more and more devs to jump in, which means a greater potential of high quality games in the future.

If you don't like the Wii that's cool, but it's done great things already, and hasn't even been out a year. The market for Sony/MS's games aren't going to disappear, but Nintendo has single-handedly gotten rid of all the bad PR games usually receive, which invites more people to enter the market, which stimulates the market further, which is good for everyone.

What do you guys think?

True, but besides Resistance and that whole church scandal, all talk has been focused on the Wii from the press. I mean, sure GTA is going to get attacked like crazy when it's released later this year but Wii will probably take the spotlight once again when Nintendo dominate sales later on this year, so the negative media will be overshadowed.

And people who were holding back can now get into gaming.

I don't know about that, Manhunt 2 is still recieving some negative PR

But I think that the Wii is helping to counter balance some of the negative PR

Yep, you're right. I edited the title to say "most" bad PR, not "all" cause I agree there will always be some negative media but my point is that it's been overshadowed lately by the positive PR Nintendo has received with the Wii, which is definitely a good thing.

I don't understand why people think he hates the Wii. It's not like he's gone out and said "Wii is crap".

He gave WW a 9.1/10, yet people only focus on his Zelda review for some reason.

I can agree with that.

I can also agree withthe idea that MH2 will cause negative press as well.

I also think that the Wii is changing the view of gaming in the public's eye. The public used to always see gaming as this nerd thing that teenage boys did instead of going outside. It was strictly a young male hobby.

But now the public views it as something all can enjoy and relate too.

On a side note, I'd rather slightly-upgraded graphics with a new control scheme for a budget price than the same gameplay I already have on my PS2 disguised by superior graphics for a MUCH higher price.

I love how some of you guys act if Nintendo has all of a sudden changed their philosophy in gaming. They are still the same Nintendo. They make the same type of games, they appeal to all audiences, they concentrate on games that everyone can enjoy. Nintendo has been this way since the begining so START to complain now?

it doesnt matter what/how the public/casuals/media views the Wii. Sure their praising it now, but they'll easily turn back and hate it if anything they dont like is on it. Not only that, i dont think they like to put the blame on just one company, on game, I see it as the media hating on the whole industry.

Like i said, first they hate you, then love you, then back to hate.
