I've seena lot of wii hate and nitnendo hate on these forums, and I thought I should just set things straight: Nintendo is the only company that gets it! They're they only ones who are truly doing anything for gaming, by moving it forward. Nintendo has shifted its focus, while Sony and Microsoft lay by the wayside. How? Nintendo is now making games for everyone! Sony and Microsoft have long been in denial of the potential gaming markets they have not tapped into with their tedious, complicated games. Nintendo has found that it can make games for even toddlers, the mentally challenged, and the senile elderly.

Sony and Microsoft have forgotten what gaming is really about: Simple, mindless fun. Thats why nintendo is focusing on great games like wii music, while sony is too busy with their archaic "Little Big Planet" and MGS4, and microsoft, with their halo FPS or whatever.

And people who say the wii isn't an improvement in technology simple aren't paying attention. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is a great example. It actually lets you point at the screen and shoot. You have to aim and everything and it even registers if you hit or miss. Never before have we seen anything like this! It uses quick time events where you have to waggle the wii mote in order to avoid potentially dangerous situations. In previous generations (and "current" gen systems) you would have to use button mashing or something like that. Nintendo is so innovative that it has completely changed the way we play our games.

Sony and Microsoft need to wake up. So what if the core gamers have little to no interest in the casual games that nintendo is making, they simply don't understand what gaming is about. Nintendo is pushing for innovation and expansion of the market. "Core" gamers just don't know what's good for them. If they don't get the future of gaming, then they're just going to have to be left behind.

Hint: This is satire.

There's room for all sorts of games. And you were doing fine in the Wii music thread, didn't need a new one. :)

i sincerely hope that sony and microsoft never "get it". if wii cheer and wario 6.0 land is innovation then count me out. i'll be enjoying fallout 3, gears 2, PoP, gta4 dlc, l4d, fable 2, mirror's edge, crysis warhead, spore, etc etc. wii owners can have all "teh innovation" they want

I have to agree with you Nintendo is usually the company to try something new and aren't get recognized for it as much as they should. But Sony is taking baby steps for example on Metal Gear Solid 4 in some cases you end up shaking the remote or something like that so they are on their way. Also Microsoft maybe copying Nintendo but isn't it going around that they are making a Wii like controller. So you can't count out Sony and Microsoft, but also someone has to think about the hardcore gamers without hardcore games gaming probably wouldn't be a sport.

I have no problem with nintendo making games for everyone, but they arent doing as good as they should be at it. Like wii sports and stuff is fun, but its just a bit too shallow, there should be more sports, just more everything, same with wii play and wii fit, they were casual games, but i found them to be dissapointing, i like casual when its done right but they arent making enough, and the offerings are too little. imo

I'm using satire to prove a point.

What is your point?

That nintendo is not innovative, nor is it marketting to "everyone" and that nintendo's core gamers aren't nintendo's main focus anymore.

Also, that if this is really the "future" of gaming like some people say, that core gamers (despite claims of "expansion" of the market) are going to be left behind. By nintendo at least.

"Everyone" is almost a euphemism for "watered down."

The only reason nintendo shifted its focus, is because it was neccesary to stay alive, when pushed into a corner, they came up with this, at the current console sales trend of nintendo's consoles, the Wii should have sold 10-15 million units had it been a regular console, people give them too much credit.

I woulden't know, I'm just pretty sure they changed their focus out of wanting to sell more consoles, over the care to push the industry forwards, since money comes first for every company. Nintendo itself says they've been innovating for so many years, but other then the DS, they've been pushing out the same thing as the competition for a long time, it took something like less and less console sales for them to change the way they did things. On the handheld front the story is different, but console wise I'm pretty sure thats the basic idea.

I completely agree with the DS. It truly is innovative.

It will be interesting to see what nintendo does NEXT generation, but at that point, I probably won't care anymore.

No, I just find it funny that every Wii bashing thread on this forum was either created by you, half of the thread's posts are by you, or both. Everyone knows your stance by now.

What is your goal? To stop people from buying the Wii? Well, you haven't accomplished that. To make Wii owners feel bad? Well, you've failed at that too.

Yeah, sort of.

I pretty much wanted to destroy the idea that nintendo is marketting to everyone now, the wii is innovative, or that wii controls are superior to what we've achieved in the last 20 something years. And maybe a bit more.

This is system wars. We are critical of gaming and gaming companies here.

My goal isn't to make wii owners regret their purchase, they can decide that for themselves. There are actually some pretty good games for the wii, in all honesty.

This is true, high budget games can suck, but they can also achieve higher production values when done right.

That was over 20 years ago and completely different. You know how much money games cost to make now? about 100 times more than what it cost just ten years ago sure you can make a good game now that looks like donkey kong, but a low budget wii game or game on any system, made by some new developer is almost certainly going to be lackluster

Just because some gamers don't perfer your casual little system means the company thats making it for us doesn't get it? WTF? i think you are seriously retarded. Point at the screen and shoot? oh wow, you're right. never before have we seen nothing like this? it was on the **** original NES and been in arcades forever. They DO understand what gaming is about. JUST BECAUSE WE DON'T LIKE YOUR WII SPORTS DOESN'T MEAN OUR COMPANIES NEED TO "WAKE UP". mico and sony DO understand what gaming is about. go swing your wrist wildly now, you only need to flick your wrist, you know.

low buget games are good? hmm. Next time ill watch a low buget movie or even play one of those games...

NAAAAAAAAAAA.

VendettaRed07

Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog was a low budget movie. Turns out, it was way better then most high budget movies.

well thats different, completely. It was directed by Joss whedon and had Neil Patrick harris and Nathan fillion in it.

That would be like if there was a low budget game made by hideo kojima, published by capcom or something, not some random inexperienced dev. team who has no idea what they are doing, which is the case with most low budget games

Ohh. Like a guy whose job was painting playing cards and a guy who designed hardware got together to make a game about a monkey throwing barrels type of low budget then?

That was over 20 years ago and completely different. You know how much money games cost to make now? about 100 times more than what it cost just ten years ago sure you can make a good game now that looks like donkey kong, but a low budget wii game or game on any system, made by some new developer is almost certainly going to be lackluster

Katamari Damacy was developed for under a million dollars with a crew of 10 people, and was of amazingly high quality.

But look at the visual style and the gameplay.

Could you make a Final Fantasy game of modern standards with that budget?

Yeah, Nintendo is the only one that gets it. That's why they're swimming in money.

Theres no money in hardcore gaming anymore, its going to be decades before MS and Sony make back their money on PS3 and 360.

Casual gaming is the way next-gen will be and our only salvation will pretty much be the PC

Nope, but I'd take Katamari 10 times out of 10 compared to Final Fantasy.

Your personal preferences have nothing to do with what we're talking about.

Also, uhm ... your ... avatar ...

The gameplay of Katamari Damacy was way better then Final Fantasy. The original poster I replyed to mocked the quality of low budget productions. I brought up several low budget productions that had better gameplay then higher budget production. Just because a low budget game can't match the spectacle and presentation of a higher budget games doesn't mean the lower budget game can't match and excede the gameplay.

And Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite Final Fantasy, so when I was looking for an avatar 4 years ago when I joined Gamespot, I went searching throught the pre-uploaded avatars, saw Locke on the first page, and just went with it.
