Remember when you made games Nintendo? Like one hit after another? Like You made Mario? Donkey Kong Country? Zelda? Metroid?

You know...that period of time when you were great and powerful (now burnt out Miyamoto) actually MADE NEW GAMES?

I am sooooo tired of Nintendo not making new games....

lol....seriously it's like watching a house burn...for those of you who are younger imagine how Halo is now...now imagine it in 30 years...I think we all agree the first one had a magic that faded...well trust me...seeing Mario for my 24523452452345 time...yeah...

Sony recycles their franchises as well, there's not question about that. But they do have some new stuff coming, as does Nintendo, but really, if you want new franchises, 360 is the console to get.

Fable 2 wont be out until like 2008 or 2009 and the first game was awful (very subpar RPG), KOTOR3 hasnt even been announced yet and its predecessor was crap in tersm of story and the game probably wont come for a few years yet, BioWare is working on an MMO and another next gen game after Mass Effect. If anything, most of the games lemmings and cows seem to like hyping are going to get delayed. MGS4 and FF13 wont be stateside until next year no doubt, probably March of 08 for both.

No, it isn't. That's called rehashing. That's also what Blizzard loves to do. They never reinvent the wheel, they just take everyone else's ideas and implement them into their games. That is not necessarily a bad thing and has proven successful for them, but that's not innovation. If you think it is you obviously have no idea what innovation means.

Edit: Yes, I did mention sequels. Those are hyped more than anything else. But the Wii's lineup is not entirely sequels either:

- Disaster: Day of Crisis

- Big Brain Academy

- Project H.A.M.M.E.R

- Forever Blue

- Dewy's Adventure

- No More Heroes

Well in that case I'd agree, all three of them pretty much rehash stuff, but if you have something successful, take it and run with it. As long as the Super Marios, Zeldas, Metroids, Mario Karts, Halos, Ratchet and Clanks, etc remain good, I'm fine with sequels.

I am talking about 1st party wise. Nintendo can do what they want with the Mario franchise because all of the games in the main Mario series have been great aside from Sunshine which was not all that great compared to SM64. Galaxy is spinning the franchise in a new direction in terms of gameplay and I think it will be extremely popular because of it. Many people remember the success of SM64 and how it was such a build upon its predecessor in both graphics, gameplay and control, this is what will happen with SMG. And yes Sony milks the living hell out of their mostly mediocre first party games as well as some 3rd party games, Crash Bandicoot, Coolboarders and Spyro come to mind from the last couple of console generations.

nintendo rehashes, but that's not all they do, its just what everybody focuses on.  Metroid prime was NOT a rehash of the 2d metroids.  People, especially non-sheep btw, dissed nintendo to no end when they took zelda into a new direction with wind waker.  Nintendo made pikmin, completely orignal and still great.  Golden Sun.  There's a new rumoured RPG developed by nintendo called Vision Red.  Atm, there's excite truck and wiisports out there, with M-09, wiimusic, bwii and others in the pipeline.  SSB is a relatively young franchise btw, so I would hardly call that a rehash.

Now for my counter attack!  You claim that nintendo is all about the rehashes, but other companies are no better.  First the obvious: FF, Halo, Metal Gear, SPORTS GAMES.  As for the less obvious, lets just look at the state of the industry in general.  How many FPS are out there that have interchangeable heroes, weapons, settings, plots, etc.?  Pretty much all of them. I look at crysis and I think it might pull a doom3.  RPGs are stagnating as well.

..ya, okay..Starcraft 2 is going to change the way we look at games forever. /sarcasm Nintendo has a numerous amount of Zelda and Mario games, but they're all different in some way. To me a rehash is something like the Madden series.

blizzard hasn't made a new franchise in how long? yet they are still one of the best game developers in the world, and i don't see them getting bashed at all.

don't be mad at nintendo because they have the longest running hit franchises in the industry - thats something to appreciate more so than something to bash. if your favourite developer had a hit series like zelda and mario - you bet they'd keep that franchise going until it dies out. just look at konami with metal gear, square enix with dragon quest/final fantasy (what are they on, number 13 now?), bungi with halo, capcom with resident evil/devil may cry, etc...etc...

i understand tho, the fact that nintendo has more hit franchises than these other game develoeprs would probably frustrate the hell out of these nintendo bashers. i'd be mad too.

Dynasty Warriors 1 was a fighting game, DW5 is beat 'em-up, quite a difference. Though DW2-5 could be considered the same to a degree.

Deny it all you want, but anyone who's played Blizzard's games knows they're not original in any way and borrow heavily from other games in their genres. Even World of Warcraft, the basis of the game being Everquest, has improved its interface overtime using PLAYER'S ideas and mods.

Edit: Okay, I shouldn't say "in any way." The stories are somewhat original (depending on which franchise you play), and they do make their own improvements to other people's ideas. But the fact remains that they were never "innovative." They just used bits and pieces from various games and combined them into a functional, well-crafted experience.

Nintendo knows people like Mario, Zelda, Prime, Smash, and their franchise games. The thing is... they are good. And they are still making new games. And how can you say AT LEAST that No More Heroes isn't cool. That game screams awesome.

I always wondered why they did the virtual console thing as oppose to just putting a bunch of games on one disc like all those atari collections. Then I realised it was because they would make much more money this way.jack_russel
