https://gamerant.com/nintendo-e3-no-brainer/

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime detailed the reasons E3 remains a priority for the company, calling its attendance at the event a “no-brainer.” In his relatively lengthy explanation, Fils-Aime touched on the importance of messaging and consumer engagement, emphasizing E3’s role as the leading gaming event when it comes to providing an opportunity for developers and manufacturers to communicate with the community.

While highly unlikely, it’s possible that Nintendo plans to announce a new system at E3 2019. Considering the Switch is less than two years old, this kind of speculation is usually unwarranted. However, a rumor made the rounds earlier this year that an upgraded version of the Switch is in the works, complete with beefed up hardware and 4k output.-GameRant.com

“E3, for those five days, is the opportunity for the world to find out what’s new for video games as entertainment. And during that time, we generate more engagement than… whether it’s CES or Comic-Con, or other big entertainment events.”-Reggie

Well that’s kind of surprising. I always got the impression that Nintendo never really considered E3 to be all that important, at least for the last few years or so.

@Archangel3371: They have always had a huge presence on the floor, last year they were on 2 floors and both were packed. They just no longer do the live conference in the big auditoriums, and opted for the video show they put out instead.

This just in: Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils Aime passive-aggressively claims Sony Entertainment America President Shawn Layden has "no brain...". Stay tuned for more info.

@the-a-baum: Hmm. Yeah I guess the lack of a live conference from them just kind of skews my thoughts about them considering E3 important or not.

Just because they stopped doing stage conferences does not mean they stopped caring for E3. It turns out they never left in the first place, they just took up a new format for presentation.

Nintendo was smart to opt out of the stage conferences - the conferences excessively make a big joke out of the companies year-by-year. It turns out Sony next year is opting out of the conferences too; so who knows, maybe the conferences going extinct is just a matter of time, and rightfully so. There's greater ways to put on E3 than cringe-worthy conferences.

Meh I disagree. M$ press confrence last year was excelent and it got a lot of people hyped. I don't blame Sony though. Last year was vomit inducing for them.

@jaydan: One thing not to do a conference and another to skip the Expo all together. Sony is not there in any shape or form in 2019.

As Reggie said they get more engagement from E3 than anywhere else. E3 is not dying just because Sony decided they are having a bad hair day and staying home.

I think they mean being on the show floor, which they always are.

Those expensive, thankless, and pointless presentations are what they smartly avoid.

It's not that there have never been great conferences, however on a year-by-year basis that consistency is very unstable and we more often accumulate a shitshow overall with disappointed expectations.

If Reggie announces Persona 5 coming to Switch at E3 2019, heads will roll indeed, cause E3 is still important to pass the word out to the streets and remember, a good communication can lead to a company great heights. Reggie understands this and so does MS.

@sonic_spark: They are opting out. According to Sony's Shawn Layden the only games they have in 2019 are Dreams and Days Gone and not worth doing a whole show around them.

Do the math. If PS5 is coming 2020 the rest of the games will be on that platform. Sony sold these games as PS4 and they are really PS5.

The best part is it is a total mystery to what Nintendo has to show, yet they are still showing up.

Agreed. And gamers are never happy with anything and they think the whole thing is just a show for them and them alone.

I would hope so? They have a lot to show off next year: Open world main Pokemon game, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Metroid Prime 4, Yoshi, Animal Crossing, hopefully Mario Kart 9 and any other surprises they may have (Star Fox, F-Zero, Mario, new IPs)

You seem to be confused about the meaning of "attend." It's not "to present a live conference;" it's "to be present." Nintendo has been present at every single E3 ever. They're there with large booths, and even though they don't have a live conference they have Treehouse presentations live from E3 every year. They attend E3.

ok again just tempering the expectations of any possibly switch revision. i think anyone expecting beefed up specs and 4K output are just setting themselves up for disappointment. if there is a revision i suspect its going to be more a switch mini/S rather than a switch pro type deal. smaller SOC (down to 14nm), fan removed, longer battery life, ,maybe 64GB of storage as standard: that kind of thing. i dont think they are going to change the performance of it.

on the 4K front the only thing they might do is upgrade the dock with post process hardware that takes the switch output, scales it up and cleans it up a bit. if they do that i suspect that will be an optional Pro dock rather than as standard.

as for E3: as i said in another thread it is a dinosaur. a relic. it has its uses but it's not the powerhouse is used to be. I think nintendos approach overall is the best way (a big direct followed by hours of demos and some surprise announcements on the show floor...nice) but sony pulling out is not a complete disaster or anything for them. they can do their own directs, release demos for people to play and so on. if they have nothing ready for E3 then there is no point turning up.

the old style of conferences are great if you have loads of announcements or just loads of bombshells to drop but its rare that all the planets align for that (and cheesing it like sony did a few years ago can only be done once a decade before people get fed up....and that also comes with a price). for every TP reveal or FF7 remake reveal there are 10s of very meh conferences that just drag on and on. nintendos droning on about wii sales. sonys conference this year...what was that? MS talking more about live services and sports streaming than games. *shudder*.

Yeah, in about ten years. This rumored new hardware reeks of delusional wish fulfillment.

If anything, Reg, it's more of a "no brainer" NOT to attend E3 for you. You do fine without Leipzig and Tokyo, what is it about E3 that's different?

@nintendoboy16: Umm every gaming news outlet on to top of ABC,NBC, BBC,CBS CNN, Fox News, NY Times, Chicago Tribune etc. These guys are not going to some Effin Fan Fest. They are going to the biggest Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 isn't that clever) in the world for retailers, press and industry insiders. They ain't going to PSX!

Thinking Sony is bigger than E3 just proves their hubris going into next gen.
