Nintendo should have cut the price of the wii

If the wii ends up losing the console war its because of Nintendos greed and arrogance. They are the only ones making a real profit so they could easily afford a Wii price drop. Now they seem to have let Sony take over the month of November and most likey the rest of the war.

Why in the world would nintendo use a price drop when they are still selling out of all of their consoles at the present price, they will make a price cut when they need to. The only reason why sony and microsoft made price cuts is because they needed to in order to keep demand.

Slashing the price doesnt necessarily lead to long term success. Ask the extremely cheap Dreamcast and GC about how beneficial it is to slash your price. The Wii is banking on its differences to sell and it is targetting a different fanbase with different games. It also needs to make as much profit as it can because alot of 3rd party games are coming out and leaving the Wii out of it. This might eventually lead to alot of people putting down their wiimotes and picking up their gaming on the 360 or PS3 further down the road.

N is producing and selling 1.8 million every month worldwide. That's way more thn sony ever produced and sold monthly worldwide ever with the PS1 or PS2. N is making them as fast as they can.

I can't tell you whether they're holding out. But the facts are there; Nintendo has sold more units in it's first year than any home console ever.

While I am confident that the cheaper PS3 will help sales for the long-term...I have no idea what you are talking about. The Wii is the #1 seller world wide. In one year it has made a huge profit, pumped up NIntendo's stock, become a household name, AND is already approaching the level of sales the GC saw in its whole lifespan. This doesn't even touch on the fact that everyone is predicting a very strong Christmas for the Wii and Nintendo is saying the won't be able to meet demand STILL.

In short, I find it very puzzling you think Nintendo needs help because the PS3 has finally improved sales. There is more important things that being #1 in sales. For Nintendo, making money, regaining respect for your brand, and differntiating yourself from the competition are what counts.

If anything, prolonged PS3 sales will come at the expense of the closest competitor...the 360. Not the cheaper Wii with completely different games and style.

i bought a launch ps2 the first week it came out and still dont own wii im almost positive the ps2 had a bigger first year then the wii did, it costed 299 and was a cheap dvd player its first year an had some killer games like twisted metal black as a launch title an gran turismo

theres no way in crap that the wii outsold the ps2 its first year noway in crap

I just don't think you understand how big a feat it is to sell 13-14 million consoles in a year. Nobody was expecting this success, not even Nintendo, they were probably not ready to meet a demand this insane.

I know people that are still looking for Wii consoles, and ebay sells New ones at like $500. It looks like Nintendo could just focus on balls out console making and there'd still be people left out.

And no. You don't lower price to meet demand, you lower price to create demand. When demand is far greater than supply, technically price goes up (as we see in eBay) atleast Nintendo keeps it at the $250. And I feel sorry for loyal Sony fans that bought a system only to have the price drop months later.

Theres a difference. PS1 and PS2 didnt make a profit from day one, the Wii does -- basic logic is that if something sells well you dont give it a price cut, unless if theres something wrong internally.

N has produced and sold more Wii's in its first year than sony did with the PS2. N is only one company and only produce so many units in a given month.

Nintendo is doing some great things for gaming, for both casuals and hardcore fans.
They also definatly never were more arrogant then Sony has gotten from winning the last generation.
