Disappointing news for Nintendo fans looking for hands-on impressions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- the Wii fighting game won't be playable at next week's E3.

Game|Life's media relations representative at Nintendo confirmed the news this afternoon, but stressed that Smash Bros. was still very much on for its 2007 release date.

Nintendo's stance is that they are going to have an E3 with a very narrow focus on a group of key software titles.

Several never-before-seen Wii titles will be announced and playable at the show, but due to the constrictive, tightly scheduled nature of this year's scaled-back E3, Nintendo wanted to have a smaller game portfolio.

Fanboys have been saying "THAT'S NOT GAMEPLAY" to the screens. I would have liked to see what it looked like actually being played. If there is another trailer, expect more of these comments.

My bet is that they aren't making it playable because they don't want to showcase what they have done. They have been extreamly secretive about SSBB and what it contains. They probably would have had to create an E3 version that only contained a few extra characters, items, and stages and just don't want to bother.

Just for this or for the shrinkage.

Nintendo could have just put SSBM into the playable wii's and said it was SSBB and sheep would have still eaten it up! I mean it's not like they haven't done it before, remember the announcement of the wii? :P
