Continuing its stride towards building a better online network, Nintendo confired that its 3DS's online storefront, the eShop, will not only sell all first party titles, like Animal Crossing and New Super Mario Bros. 2, online, but also third party games.

The full list of games is:

  • Castlevania: Mirror of Fate
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D
  • Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion
  • Scribblenauts Unlimited

In addition to the following first party games:

  • New Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Paper Mario: Sticker Star
  • Animal Crossing
  • Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon

Step in the right direction, Nintendo.

Awesome, I was hoping Nintendo would do this every time I look at the eShop. Especially with MGS3D, RE:R, SM3DL.

This is great, I am at the point now where I am trying to decide if I want to start downloading more games rather than buying at retail just to save the physical space

Still prefer physical, but this is a good move either way. Will retailers still be able to set their own price for the codes? Could be an interesting way to see some sales from retailers.

This is definitely good news. There are quite a few DS games I want that are hard to track down, hopefully this will prevent that from happening with the 3DS. That being said, I still prefer physical copies.

Sarcasm? Because downloadable games has never been a feature anybody can claim to being the first. I mean SEGA had the SEGA Channel where your console downloaded the 4mb game in a few seconds.

i really, really like this. my 3DS library will probably be mostly digital, since paying the US price > paying the BR price.

Will probably still buy physical copies most the time but I may take advantage of this.

nintendo has had online distribution on the SNES. and, while looking for that, i found out nintendo has had a wavebird prototype (aka wireless controller) since the NES.

I'm going to stick to retail copies, but this is a nice option for fans of DD - it'll also make it easier to find out of print titles.

NIntendo stated every Nintendo published title after NMSB 2 will be available on the eShop, so NMSB2 and onward, every Nintendo game will be available digitally. :P

I will say that I am eager to do this for some games, especially old gems. I hope this does mean that NIntendo will create a competitive market ecosystem for eShop too though. I'd like to see sales and discounts in the near future, plus I hope that since there will also be cards that have codes for these DD games, we can possibly see Amazon and other places sell them cheaper. I'm all for DD really, especially on handhelds, it's nice to have multiple games, and makes use of that large 16GB SD I have... now I may need to upgrade!

Better Late than Never.

I seem to recall Sony being a lagger when it came to Games on Demand type service.
