A quick look indicates that Switch is actually selling well in Canada. That means that this is most likely going to end up being a global price cut announced within the next week. That's a bad sign for Switch sales, since it means that they're not on-track to meet their targets.

It is selling extremely poorly in Canada. Every store here has like 30+ Switches in stock but they can’t sell them.

Canadians are smarter and won’t waste $400 on a freaking Nintendo system hence the price drop.

You can expect more desperate price drops in the future from Nintendo.

wiiU was an anomaly, nintendo always cuts the prices of its products. look at the 3DS you can get one for 89$ now compared to the launch 250$ one. and 3DS sold 70million.

The only PS4s that are being sold at the moment are The 1TB PS4 Slim and the 1TB Pro at $299 and $399. The 500GB models and other bundles are discontinued in NA until whatever's announced. Also, PS4 didn't dip in price the first year and few months in.

This. Everyone "wanted" a Switch because no one could find one. It also helped them that they delayed BOTW for so long on Wii U that it could be a launch title and boost sales. As well as porting over Mario Kart within the first few months.

They were never going to sustain that success. It's not the Wii. There is no Wii Sports killer app to make grandma go out and buy one. There's also no 3rd party support to make it viable competition to PS4/Xbone. Now it's just selling to Nintendo fanboys.

Both large exaggerations. Gamers are buying the Switch for portability and because it has a nice library so far for only being out there a year and a half.

With current Canadian dollar against the US, it drops the Switch from $303 USD to $288 USD. Seems more an issue of adjusting to the exchange rate than meaningfully dropping the price of a console.

There are rumors of a Switch direct around July 13 that will drop the price and/or revise the tech of the Switch, so we'll see. Pokemon pre-orders open in Japan on July 13, so keep any eye on that date. If they want to use a price cut to maximize sales this year, Pokemon is the property to do it with.

After almost 5 years since it's release, hell it should be at that price anyways.

If a price drop implies failure, then an expensive launch price implies success.

The Switch sales have slowed down a lot in 2018. It's a far worse year than 2017's great lineup.

Probably because it isn't selling very well here. Our dollar might be utter shit, but retailers shouldn't necessarily be marking up everything to equal the conversion. New boxed retail games cost $79.99 for fucks sake. Nobody wants to spend that kind of money on anything gaming.

After MB sales tax, a base Switch is $451.99 CAD. Add in a copy of Mario Odyessy and your bill is $542.38. LOLWUT?

It's no wonder I don't have one yet. But I really, really want one.
