PS4 Sales up to July - Almost 63.3 million, just this year, from April 1 to June 30 PS4 shipped 3.3 million units. That's 2 months and 29 days.

The Switch from March 3 and June 30 (3 months and 29 days) has sold 4.7 million units.

The Switch has only sold 1.4 million units more in a period of almost 60 extra days. At the rate the PS4 was selling, SOny would have sold almost 2 million more in that period of time.

Now, I'm not one who talks a lot about sells but I just wanted to show you how pointless this thread is.

starting with the snes they juggled and started the gameboy line..... splitting their resources into two divisions.... snes sold 49 million..... a big drop from 62....

the switch will be their first sole investment since the NES...... i think it will go down as one of the best selling consoles ever beating the snes imo.....

The even better part is that there are still people who think that it's just every Wii U owner rushing to get it ASAP and that sales will just come to a halt at 13 million. When has anything like that ever happened?

actually in jan 5 2017 sony said they were at 53million.... in april 28 they said they were at 60 million....so they sold 7 million consoles in about 4 months
unreal? the 3million from april 28-july 31.... seems a bit more reasonable.... about 1 million a month....

anyway.....sony is pretty ridiculous with these sales yet their first party sell 2 million to 5 million max....makes call foul....however call of duty and gta does sell 15 million on the console so i guess those numbers make the install base actually more believable....

so..sony gets pretty much every game under the sun that isnt nintendo on their system and gives them insane sales....the switch will be the test for nintendo to see if they can compete with sony toe to toe with 1 console only.... this year switch is packed with games....no cod or battlefront or madden or destiny though.... but plenty of exclusives. will people go for the cheerleader or for the funny girl with glasses? the answer may be obvious or maybe not.

How is it stupid and baseless prediction? Wii U couldn't even sell 20% of OG Wii sales, so I'm actually giving the Switch some credit here. Around 30 - 35 million units sold is not me wanting Nintendo to fail, that is pretty decent sales. Switch is guaranteed not going to sell as well as the 3DS.

Nintendo has stiff competition against them, especially in regards to the smartphone and tablet market. When 3DS first launched you couldn't buy a tablet for under $400 - $500, now you can get them for around $100 and they are actually pretty capable. At least capable enough for small kids and way more versatile product than the Switch. Nintendo only has their core Nintendo fan base left. Most of the casuals and little kiddies left.

Switch is doing better than the Wii U did because its grabbing some of that 3DS audience, but again keyword "some". If Switch passes 45 million sold I'll admit I was wrong and I'll buy one as my punishment.

Also, don't worry about emgesp. He's just salty that Switch isn't Nintendo's Dreamcast and that BotW beat HZD in both review scores and sales. There's no reason to believe with such certainty that Switch would sell so badly.

If you had just said that you think it'll sell less than 3DS, I'd see nothing wrong. Instead, you attached an arbitrary sales range based on how you assume certain market factors will come into play. That's what makes it baseless: you have nothing to support that specific range you came up with. It's just a random guess. You gave reasons for why outselling 3DS seems unlikely. You did not give a reason for it selling half of 3DS.

Also, I find it hilarious that you think $100 tablets are on-par with Switch in terms of power.

My predictions for both the OG Wii and Wii U came true, so I'm confident in my Switch prediction as well.

Switch is too bulky and expensive right now to even realistically think it could manage 3DS level sales. Nintendo will need to release a far more portable and cheaper version of the Switch for that even to be a possible situation and even then the odds are against them in todays market.

Like I said before, 35 million units sold for what is primarily a Nintendo delivery system is pretty damn good.

@emgesp: Your prediction, given the current rate of sales, requires that there is a sudden and drastic collapse in sales at some point next year. That could happen, but such a thing happening is pretty rare. IDK, I'd at least up the ceiling to 50 million if I were you. It'll most likely be at well over half of your current range by this time next year. And that's before Pokemon hits. I'm not saying that you're wrong, but rather that your prediction is extremely arbitrary

They won't have any problem hitting their first 10 million sold as long as they manufacture and ship enough.

So, you're predicting a huge first year followed by a massive drop off in the following years, presumably due to Wii U owners rushing to be early adopters or something like that? I kinda get where you're coming from, but Wii U was the only case of a Nintendo system in recent memory peaking in year one.

Edit: Okay, 3DS did too, but that was largely due to the price cut. Thus, we should expect Switch's peak year to be whenever it gets its first major price cut. DS also peaked due to its price cut and a new model.

I will need to see what they have lined up for the first quarter of 2018. I assume Smash Deluxe will be ready sometime Summer 2018.
