What happens if we throw PS2 into the mix? I'm pretty sure it has more shovelware than Wii, DS and PS3 combined after 9 years.Parasomniac
1. It's been around for 9 years.
2. It had more high quality games in the same duration of time that the wii has been out. According to gamespot reviews.
and they sold more systems then the ps3 and 360 combined so who so be more ashamed the company making the shovelware or the two companies who can't make good enough games to out sell itFleeman6019It's not selling more because of the games. It's selling more because of the media exposure.
Fleeman: Its not that. Its the fact that developers know they can make crappy games for the wii and sell them as long as they add motion sensing.
N ... No! There's no such thing as shovelware! It's just a myth! This concept of "quality" is just a made up idea by sony and microsoft! hakanakumonoit was Nintendo that touted "quality over quantity" with the N64 thus inventing the idea of shovelware. but no its not "Nintendo systems have more shovelware", its mostly the Wii. it does have some standout titles of course. the PS2 had shovelware. what distinguishes it from the Wii is the fact that there were loads of great games as opposed to some great games

True. The DS is a quality system after all. I honestly dont' think nintendo cares if their system sells crappy games because it will still sell. Its the people who buy the crappy games who are feeding nintendo's wallets after all.
Heh, shovelware. I actually hadn't heard this term before.
This really is true, though. I hadn't thought about it this way, but when my folks decided to get my sister a Wii it was my first instinct to tell them to be careful with the purchases on software. (They have a tendency to immediately purchase something because of the license, or in some cases just box art. See: anything Spyro, any cartoon character she watches, and rehashes of Asteroids that are dressed up to look new.)
But when you think about it, the alternative is what? I'd love to see fewer quick-buck titles as much as anyone, across the board, 'cause it just makes our favorite pastime that much more accessible. But if Nintendo was to, say, start cracking down and regulating what can be released on their system with an iron fist, they're going to be back to square one on third party support. It's actually really nice to see a few good games on the system that aren't made by them.
That being said, I'm kind of glad not to personally be a Wii owner, because every trip through my local game retailer leaves me a little less impressed with the lineup.

I think they rather have them buy quality titles... which are usually nintendo titles :P Hence the nintendo channel. That way You know, You make people happy, increase brand loyalty.2- PS2 had more shovelware than the XBOX/Gamecube combined. Its just how it is...the market leader gets more shovelware......heck DS probably has more shovelware than the PS3 and 360 combined.jg4xchamp
Indeed. Also, whoever wrote that "article" thinks Nintendo published Ninjabread Man:
"I ponder why companies like Ubisoft release titles like Catz, Dogz, Imagine: Baby Sitter, and other such games like this. In all honesty it's good to see that the Nintendo's Seal of Quality doing it's job, printing them money in cart sales for these games. While locking out hard working developers like Bob, and publishing more "Ninja Bread Men" than we can shack a WiiMote at."
He's obviously an idiot. Then again, fanboys love idiots. If that wasn't the case, Pachter wouldn't have a job.
[QUOTE="Can-o-Mark"]So, whats the problem with shovelware?jhcho2It means 3rd party devs are not taking the console seriously enough, and think that the Wii is the answer to making a quick buck. With that thinking in mind, the future of the Wii is in question. With that thinking yes. But if you were to take a look at the Wii's 2009 line up, you can see that dev's are now realising the Wii is going to finish the console war in first place. And that it is and will be the best platform for them to release games on.

(im joking) The Wii probaly has the most games released this year for it against the PS3/360 and also has some good looking games aswell.

What annoys me these titles like Catz and Dogz are purchased for children all they care about is enjoying themselves they are not fussed if the game is in HD, or it is AA rated game across the web.... they are games for children(3-5yrs or what ever) thats it... How can we/them possibly decide what is a good game for a 4 year old.1- we knew this 2- PS2 had more shovelware than the XBOX/Gamecube combined. Its just how it is...the market leader gets more shovelware......heck DS probably has more shovelware than the PS3 and 360 combined....but those arent the only options on the console....so thank god.....although i could use another big game for my Wii..jg4xchampPS2 also had the most AAA titles. Not the case for the Wii.
Funny.. I was Actually thinking about buying a Wii the other day,:o
That is until I seen these. [Link1] | [Link2] After seeing these two games (Mario Party/Kart type)I don't think I can bring myself to buy one now.:?
To much Shovelware as it is, For one person can take.:P

my point exactly.Wii is still better than 360 and ps3, so it doesnt matter at allRigga911
Don't agree, we are not discussing sales here but games quality... personally i find Wii having less quality titles than PS3 & 360... but seems like in 2009 Wii is going to have a much better line-up of titles compared to previous years, so i guess its good news to Wii owners :)

You're kidding right?Being a real gamer, i'm much more interested in the good games rather than the bad games.
The shovelware issue is nowhere near as bad as the shooterware problem that plagues the 360 and PS3 (moreso the 360). The vast majority of games that come out are all shooters and when a different genre comes out, it usually flops even if its well reviewed. I'd rather some 3rd parties make minigame collections than 3rd parties feeling like the only genre they can make money off of is shooters, a genre that disinterests me.
