Seriously. How hard it it for them to add it?

In my opinon, it would add quite a bit of awesomeness to it!

Why? I don't see why it needs something so trivial as opposed to addressing some other much more important issues.

I rather not have them. They're pointless and it would be a waste of time for Nintendo when they could be spending that time working on all those amazing games that are being made now.

I believe Nintendo compared this to feeding treats to a dog. So Nintendo won't be doing it anytime soon.

I don't think it NEEDS one, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. The first thing they need to do, though, is sort out their whole online structure.

It's kind of nice to have one, but it's hardly what they should be working on hardest right now.

Achievements are pathetic. Somehow those points, with which you can do absolutely nothing, make you play the game longer? I might aswell play the game with my own set restrictions. Same freakin' thing, unless of course you play to show off on the internetz. Yeah, some achievement that shows just how much time you invested in something that's totally irrelevant sure is going to make a damn fine impression on the internet peeps. 'Cause they obviously care.

Aren't most of the amazing games being made by third parties and not Nintendo?

The people who are making Nintendo's games are separate from the people who would be implementing an achievement system if Nintendo decided to do it. The games wouldn't suffer in the least.

I'm actually quite content without one on the Wii, although games like Metroid Prime 3, Mega Man 9, and Brawl have their own system of it. I actually like unlockables more. They have more use.

How about integrating unlockables with an achievement system?

The best part... they're totally optional.:| If you don't like them don't get them, it just adds replay value and adds a challeng.

There's much bigger tasks Nintendo needs to complete first.

Like not having terrible online for starters. That way achievements would mean something because people could easily see what you're up to, and your points, and such.

The wonderful Miyamoto explained it quite well:

"I'm not a big fan of using the carrots to motivate people to play. I want people to play because they enjoy playing and want to play more."

Miyamoto does not understand what consumers want out of consoles today. And he clearly doesn't understand achievements, either.

Don't consumers want fun? I don't know about you, but I play games because I have fun playing them, not because I have an artificial incentive to play them. Then please, you tell me what you believe achievements are. Because I don't need an icon, words, or gamer points to feel achieved or to tell me that I have achieved something.

Let's put it this way.

A lot of kids dream of one day becoming a great football, or baseball, or w/e etc, legend, and they play that specific sport for fun quite often.

That's my analogy for it at least.

People play games for fun, and the achievements are to build score, and to add replay value. It's not like people buy bad games just for achievements. At least I have never heard of one person doing that ever 8)

Avatar, the Last Airbender. :P I'm not totally putting off achievements, they would be an nice addition for people that can't think of what else to do after beating the game. But an addition nonetheless, more unlockables would be much better. What I'm trying to say is, why have achievements, when you can make up your own? Trying to beat Resident Evil 4 with a knife and pistol, there's no achievement for that, but if you do it, it's not going to be for nothing, because YOU know you did it, and YOU feel the satisfaction of achieving it.

That would take resources, dedication, and money to impliment it, BUT I would rather they spend that money on getting a better online system.

Besides, with the current system as it is, I wouldn't care about achievements on Wii as the online community is so poor.

Fix the online, then add achieves, but don't add achieves, but leave the friend code system up...NO!

You know, on one hand I'd like to see that. It'd certainly make me keep my games longer.

But when I heard Nintendo's retort about why they didn't want to use it, I kind of agreed and respected it. Basically, they said they don't want to just take someones' idea and just reuse it like MS and Sony consistantly do. They want to keep doing their own ideas to keep video gaming fun.
