N64 - Had to absolutely have an expansion pak with certain games.

Gamecube - When it launched, Nintendo had a laughably small memory card you could buy. People complained. It took awhile before a memory card with much bigger storage capability was released.

Wii - People have complained about the small amount of storage space on Wii. Now, this problem will be magnified because of Wiiware.

Why is Nintendo so against having more storage? Nintendo has had this problem now since the N64 era.

Actually, in a recent interview Iwata said that they were trying to address this issue.

all they want is to sell Wiis and its first party games.

they are too lazy or simply dont care for storage. They are making too much money to care.

Well, it is about damn time. They've had this problem with storage ever since the expansion pak for N64...which was released in 1998. So, 10 years now...

It is very easty to delete VC games you dont play regularly. If you have broadband no game on the VC will take more than a minute to download again.

That's not the point though. The point is that people should not have to delete them in the 1st place, and have to constantly check how much storage is left.

I have to disagree with you there. The expansion pack was basically required for most later games. It wasn't to increase memory, it increased the systems capabilities. As for the Gamecube, I personally had no problem with memory. We got by fine with two memory cards.

It would be nice to be able to run VC games off of the SD card. Or toggle the SD card to be the default save location for all games.

Not to go off-topic but its not nearly as bad as PS3 owners needing to worry about how much space the required install will take.

I'm out of space on my Wii already as well. They definetly need to add a harddrive. They have the USB port just let us hook a drive up to it.

It doubled the amount of RAM because the graphics in some games later on couldn't be done without the expansion pak.

Yeah, only a few games used it. You could barely play Perfect Dark without it. And it was necessary for Majora's Mask and Donkey Kong 64.

Yeah, they need an SD channel that lets you load games from your card.

RAM isnt storage...

edit: not in the way you mean anayway, you can have 4 gigs of ram in your N64 but if you dont have enough pyhsical storage through flash drive, HDD, memory card whatever it will in no way help with the amount of information that you can physically install and access.

Expansion pack for n64 extended the memory, it didn't store anything such as saves..

Ok, the expansion pak isn't storage, it is memory. You're right. It is still something Nintendo overlooked with the original design of the N64. Nintendo should have included more memory to begin with.

The N64 Expansion Pack was for graphics, not storage space.

And besides, it's not like games will be almost 50 MB big.

Super Mario 64 was only 9 MB.

In 1996, you didn't need 480i graphics. People were fine with 240i graphics.

It wasn't later with the advent of big screen TV's that they made the expansion pak.

storage is one of its big draw backs, when I see something like paper mario take up significant blocks of data I don't see Wiiware becoming successful till they actually make a real harddrive.. Seriously as a PC game I can get a 500 gb hard drive for less then $100.. With hard drives this cheap you would think that they would have released something awhile back for this..

Every console maker makes sacrifices when it comes to RAM, as more is pretty much always better.

I don't see how this is a problem, ok so now with Wiiware it may be but unless you are some kind of nostalgia freak and downloaded like every VC game then oh wait, it still wouldn't be that much of a problem, it's not hard to delete the games you aren't playing and redownload them later, they barely take up much room. I admit now they may need one as Wiiware games are quite big compared to VC ones.

Amen to that. With all the complaints about the wii's storage space, the PS3 mandatory instal is someting that REALLY needs to be fixed. Don't get me wrong, nintendo needs to release a hard drive now but re-downloading a game for wii is a far shorter inconvenience than re-installing a PS3 game.
