Nintendo has done this 2 times now. The game boy advance SP came out and sold very little because nobody wanted to buy it a SECOND time. Now the ds has the new, "Ds lite" and the same thing will happen. Only the hardcorest fans of DS will buy it, and there are very few...

Nintendo really doesn't know how to sell worth crap. You can't just come out with the SAME exact handheld, make it look a little different and expect it to sell...

Go look at that poll on the Gamespot home page. The majority of the people voted the Ds Lite, "Indifferent".

No one will buy this thing... No one.

Wow... you know nothing about business. Its a brilliant idea, and its selling like mad. The PS1 and PS2 came out with a reversion. Expect PSP to do the same.

hmmmm. lets see, 13.5 million people have a DS, that leasves a lot of people who dont. THe people buying the DS lite mostly arent going to have the original, its to appeal to a wider market and rejuventate the system for 2006. SP sold much better than the original GBA, because of Time! THe same will happen with the DS lite.

Its aimed at the people who haven't brought one and didn't like the look of the current DS. People that already owns one and are still buying the new DS is just  a bonus to Nintendo.

Anyway so technically, if IIIIII simply buy one, you would get owned right?

Yeah I know I did. After I seen how much better and brighter the screen was. And the fold-up design was perfect. The regular GBA's screen was way to dark. And then they would try and milk you with these add-ons to make the screen brighter.

S T F U It will sell. It is a great revision a lot of people have been waiting for. It will swipe the 'kiddie toy' look out of the DS. Just like me and my imported white DS. Everyone who's seen it wants it. This will work.

Well when the new design gameboy came out it sold a lot more units, all it added was a slightly better looking model, a brighter screen with contrast control and a slightly more versatile size, just the same as the DS lite.

First, let me say that I am not going to be getting a DSlite, I am happy with my DS and I don't think a redesign is necessary. BUT WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU BASING THIS ON??!! The GBA SP is the second-best selling video game system ever, and if you were to walk around any major urban centre you would see 10 GBA SPs for one of every other handheld. The GBA SP kept Nintendo going over the last couple of years, so really; you are uninformed. You need to leave.

Having said that, I think the re-design was issued a year too early.

Wow, the self-ownage in the thread starter's post is so strong on so many levels.

Then again, it was written by the guy who didn't realize Sony was a Japanese company, so I suppose this kind of tripe should be expected of him now.

The SP sold like hotcakes. And lets not take into consideration all those people who dont have a DS. Im sure those people will be pretty pissed when the new DS hits the market.

A guy wanting a DS: "WTF? Nintendo released a better version of the DS? Im not buying that POS!!!"

Nintendo made 479 million dollars last year on handhelds and psp wasn't even close in numbers to Nintendo. Don't forget they have the DS and Gameboy advance. Maybe this year will be different, but NIntendo has many loyal fans and a stranglehold on that market. Don't look for them to loose it to Sony too quickly.
