Nintendo's Japan Wii Sales Double Those of Sony's PlayStation 3

Kyoto-based Nintendo has sold 1.95 million units of its newest game machine as of March 25 since it debuted on Dec. 2 last year, Tokyo-based research firm Enterbrain Inc. said in a faxed statement. Sony has sold 812,000 of its latest console since November 11, the report said.

As the PlayStation 3 loses market share in Japan, it becomes more difficult for Sony to recoup investment in the machine. Sony and rivals Nintendo and Microsoft Corp., which makes the Xbox 360, sell players at or near a loss on expectations of making money on game software.

No offence but it's really lame bragging about that. People already know Wii is selling way more than PS3 in Japan. I anything it should be selling twice as much comparing the prices and games. considering all that you wrote here and elsewhere....i think u need to check if there is more than just cobwebs in your head... its only lame to brag about sales of the wii because the you dont like the wii...now if your system of choice was doing that well in japan....its not lame anymore...

Which is why new games are starting to be announced for Nintendo's system. If you haven't noticed, the majority of original IPs announced this year are exclusive to Wii. Wii will get the vast majority of Japanese support. Whether or not it gets western support remains to be seen.Michael85

Wii is killing PS3 in Japan. 360 killing PS3 in NA. Reports are sales for PS3 has already dropped 82% in Europe. Sounds the trumpets cause PS3 is not looking to good.rybe1025

    The PS3's price is more than justified by the cost of the Blu-Ray player alone. And with a difference of maybe two or three games, that arguement is weak, since the 360 beats both in that one. As for more fun, that is opinion and subjective.

Last gen, cows did nothing but  point out how great the PS2 was selling. Cows made sure everyone knew the PS2 was top dog in sales.

Cows only want to talk about sales when the PS is on top. Remember last week and all the "PS3 sold 600k! Tex xflop1.5 is dead!!"  threads?

I find it sad that cows always have to use the price excuse. Yet, at the same time, they argue that the PS3 is a better value than the Wii. If it was a better value, then it would be selling more.

Put it this way, by cows logic, Wrigley could start selling sticks of gum for $80 a piece, and it should sell better than Honda Civics, which cost $15,000+. After all, $80 is less than $15,000 right?

 Of course not, if console A is selling better than console B, it means that more people think Console A is worth whatever they are charging for it than console B. Cows using the price excuse is basically a tacit admission (though they don't realize it), that the PS3 is NOT worth what it costs. Well, that's exactly what us sheep are saying. The Wii is worth it's $250 retail cost, which is proven by it's sales numbers, and the PS3 is not worth it's $500-$600 retail cost, except by diehard Sony fanboys, which is proven by it's weak sales.

It depends who you ask if that Blu-Ray player is justified or not. For people who are just gamers and won't be watching movies, that Blu-Ray player is an unjustified need. Games can fit on DVD discs, so that's not a good reason either.Zhengi

    No, the price is justified by the player. You are arguing whether Blu-Ray it is a necessity or not, which I am not arguing.  If you don't feel it is worth the cost, don't buy it, but saying the system is a terrible deal is a flawed argument, since the system alone costs less than a Blu-Ray player, not including what other features and components are in the system.

    It would be akin to me saying the Wii's cost is not justified because they added motion controls, which are not needed for games, but they are making me pay for that. 

    Both features are inherent to what the company wanted to do with their respective systems.

    A better one would be a Honda (Wii) to a BMW (PS3), since they are both cars (systems). They do, basically, the same thing (play games), but you pay more for one than the other. 

    Why? Features and luxuries. Can you live without heated leather seats (Blu-Ray)? Yeah sure you can. Do you need a premium sound system (HD graphics)? Absolutely not.

    But some people are willing to pay the added costs for those features, while others are not. See how easy the comparison can be done when you do it accurately?
