If piracy ran rampant on Nintendo, they would go broke because games is all the have, so they make up stupid schemes like the ds' touchscreen and wiimote, combined with cheap, weak hardware to sell their games at lower prices than competitors and that is the main reason why stay in business...

I don't see how it's anti piracy. The Wii was cracked pretty fast and I've had a flash card for my ds for ages now

Wow!  A videogame system with only videogames!?  How crazy!

Piracy wouldn't run rampant on any platform because the majority of the consumers dont know or dont want to mod their Wii and play pirated games.

What? Are you suggesting adding motion/touch controls makes it harder to pirate games? you really need to do some research before starting an arguement.

That is a creative thought. But it's probably wrong. You need to think harder.

And the main reason for using Blu-Ray for games is it's got stronger anti-piracy protection and they can make the game files so big that they're a pain to download, which is why the devs are padding the games to fill up all the space even when they don't need it.

Nintendo stays in business because they're insanely profitable. It's not hard to grasp how that works - Nintendo makes money on every Nintendo DS and Wii sold - then they develop extensively for their own systems, which not only sells greater amounts of hardware, but makes them a small fortune from software sales.

Anti-piracy? I thought you were going to refer to how hard it was to mod the Gamecube, how long it took for the system to be usable by modders, homebrew, et cetera, and how this has somewhat continued onto the Wii, if only because the Wii fanbase is a market that doesn't know how to steal software.

Sony and Microsoft are taking bigger steps to combat piracy than Nintendo, their games are bigger targets, they have staked money on getting a certain volume of software sales, and they have more services that could be compromised by pirated / modified software.

Pitartes can pretty much work through the touch screen and wiimote, it's not really that hard. and as much of nintendo's cartridge based formats (Don't know about the Wii) are not region locked, playing pirated, imported, and homebrew games is actually usually easy on Nintendo's consoles, compared to the other consoles.

Cheap and weak? the Wii isn't the technological powerhouse that the PS3 and 360 are, but it provides a fun experience, which is why you play games on gaming sytems. On top of that, owning the rights to the 3rd most popular anime in Japan (and probably higher in America) Pokemon helps as well. They also make money off their consoles, unlike their competitors I will give you that their games are a huge part of their business, but when their games sell so much that they: cause plastic shortages, become the best selling games in both the packaged with a concole and unpackaged, and are acredited with being the best game of all time (Pokemon Ruby and Saphire, Super Mario Bros., Pokemon Blue, Legend of Zelda: OOT respectivly), can you really blame them? it'd be hard not to make a huge amount of money

Stupid schemes like the DS? Snap into reality dude the DS is fun and the best handheld since the Gameboy and it's sales show that.

You can rant all day about weak hardware but you know what? Not everyone gives a crap about hardware specs and eye poppin visuals. If they did the Wii wouldnt be very popular.

I'm a sheep and I agree with TC.  Sure, you can hack the game, but you also have to hack the wiimote.  A lot of people can do that, true, but most regular gameplayers cannot.  And nintendo has always hated piracy, that's a fact, and it was a big reason they stuck with cartridges in the n64 era, since back then ps had rampant cd burning piracy.  The VC is even a way they are trying to cut into piracy.  Having said that, I disagree with you that that's the only reason they choose the tech they do.  The wiimote and ds use great techs and the vc is a great thing as well.  Why can't they have more than one motive?

Wii games have already been hacked. They sell them here fro 4 dollars each. As for the the DS, flash cards are rampant.

Nintendo suck at anti-piracy this gen. You can access Wifi on pirated DS games. o.o
