Like I'm going to shed a tear - "N" has been stuffing their pockets full this gen and we knew it had to slow down at some point. I wonder what the game plan is for them - new console or new peripherals ?

For me, just bring out a stellar Zelda for Wii and I'm all set to make more $$$$$ contributions. :D

Any thoughts ?

Nintendo's not had a brilliant six months, revealing todaythat, during the period which ended on September 30, both revenue and profit are down by a significant amount. According to the figures, Nintendo suffered a 35% drop in revenue and a 59% drop in profit. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that everyone and their grandmother already has a Wii by now.

Revenue was cut from 836.88 billion last year to 548.06 billion yen this year, while profit was down from 252.18 billion yen to 104.36 billion yen. Alongside these numbers, Nintendo's sales forecast has also diminished, with Nintendo expecting to sell 20 million Wiis instead of 26 million, and 180 million games instead of 220 million. Similarly, Nintendo no longer expects to shift 180 million DS units, now estimating 150 million.

Really makes the announcement of the DSi LL a little more clear, doesn't it?

lol so if they are down by that much it means they are still making a profit because last i checked their profits went up more then the 38 and 54 or whatever % they've gone down.

Nintendo could not sell anymore handhelds or consoles for 10 years and come out milliion ahead after the success of the Wii and DS. They have done well and im proud of them. Keeping gaming what gaming is about...FUN..Which is something we have long lost with graphics wars, and head shots.

head shots are fun. Why do you think so many people want an excellent FPS on the wii? I am happy that this didn't turn out to be their last generation of consoles though.

PS3 price cuts and lack of quality software chopped away at the profits. NSMBWii will help them alot this quarter though.

I like how game "journalism" works. You can bet analysts are going to be saying something along the lines of: Nintendo makes less PROFIT = NINTENDO IS DOOMED! while Sony's and Microsoft's video game divisions LOSING money = TEH FUTURE IS BRIGHT FOR TEH HARDCORE CONSOLES!

I think thats why its taken so long. Zelda (along with Halo and FF) are on of the few games that push systems if its the first true next installment. Nintendo were probably waiting for the Wii halabaloo to cool down so they can rekindle interest with Zelda. It'll probably work too. I dont think no other campany has a game that can interest fans other systems as much as Zelda.

I guess will wait and see. If 2010 swings by a no mention of Zelda im through with Nintendo and selling my Wii!

......Na not really.

....Well i'd need a Wii to sell in the first place :P

Yeah because everyone has realized, the limited hardware, the shovelware library and the gimmicky motion controls get really old really fast and after your done with the first party games, the others don't amuse you for long. Even my local game store manager said that even with the new Wii price drop they can't give the Wii systems away, not to mention all the used one's taking up space in his store room. It is truly a case where the mighty have fallen, well all i can say is, i hope Nintendo takes all the revenue that they did get when the Wii was a hot selling item and all the revenue from the DS and put it into a real next gen hardware system, because now they can definitely afford it.

My Wii hasn't been "fun" since the first few days I owned it... "keeping gaming what it's about" would mean that consoles don't exist. Nintendo didn't save gaming, they didn't start gaming, and they certainly won't finish it, we're simply seeing the general public realize (as reflected in sales) what quite a few gamers have felt for a while: the Wii isn't delivering the experience they expected. Can it compete with the 360, PS3, and PC in terms of what it offers longtime gamers? Maybe, but it's not doing it right now. - The DS, on the other hand, continues to be strong, hence why it hasn't taken the same hit that the Wii has.

I think it's more to do with the fact that they haven't released any big games this year.

I dunno, Punch Out seems like it would be a pretty big deal to me. But that's basically it for the entire year so far.

A lot of this has to do with the strong yen. Whenever foreign currency loses value, or the yen gains value, Nintendo loses money.

considering the amount of people that would be put out of work if Nintendo went out of business I would say that is an incredibly callous thing to say.

When Nintendo has been leading the handheld race for two decades? Even if they went strictly handheld, they would still do very well.

thats terrible, wind waker was an amazng game and I dont think the collection quest was as bad as most people say really. what did you think of the game prior to that?

also on topic: its interesting to see the fanboy reactions around here, considering nintendo's financial position reletive to its competitors and yen value the amount of emotionl lashing is truely hate fueled as opposed to anything based in reason (this actually applies to fanboys of all console manufacturers)

Halo is bigger. Even I understand that.

Na i dont think you got what i meant (my fault, badly phrased). Halo is the bigger seller of course but only to halo/xbox fans, thats it. You'll rarely see sheep or cows getting excited. But thats where Zelda's different because it seems almost everyone regardless of faction get excited (im judging this based of SW 2004, Twliight Princess reveal). I think thats due to many old time Nintendo fans scattering to other systems after the GC or N64. Or just owning multiple consoles really.

last year nintendo made a killing cause the videogame industry made more money than ever... this year the videogame industry wasnt able to sustain that momentum.

while nintendo's profits plummet, they are based on comparisons of sales from last year to this year, but Nintendo is still raking in millions and selling more consoles than the competition
