Or is it? Can Nintendo's juggernaunt Wii really rebound, it has shown it can sell hardware units like mad, but can it shake off the image which plagues it? Not the image of shovel ware, though that does play quite the roll here at SystemWars, but the image of lacking quality titles. The Wii needs good 3rd party titles, and it's just not getting them - the Wii is getting left in the dust when it comes to big-bang 3rd party titles - and from what I see when I look at Nintendo's library, this is what I see:

With the help of the site Metacritic, I will provide some statistics which speak for itself about the Wii's library of games as of today, July 14th, 2008.

Metacritic has 232 games listed under the Wii - out of this number, 73 titles scored higher than 69%, and within those titles: 24 of which scored higher than 79%. What does this ultimately come down too?

10.34% of Wii games score AA or better.

31.47% of Wii games score A or better.

A whopping 68.53% score less than A on the Nintendo Wii gaming console.

With Nintendo's E3 showing sneaking up on us within the next 9 or so hours, do you think the Wii will start rebounding and start giving the gamers truly what they deserve? Will that gap above start getting a lot smaller here pretty soon?

Let us hear your thoughts.

The lack of third party support is semi annoying but Nintendo makes up for it with the best controls right now (played re4 on the wii?) and some amazing 1st party titles (Smash Bros, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda).

With the new motion sensor I only see the controls getting better. I do miss Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo. I have a pc for everything else.

That's truly Nintendo's only strong point: 1st party line up of games. Without those games, the system would be nothing more than a paperweight. I still don't think that many developers are really utilizing the Wii mote to its full potential, then again, even if they did I'd probably still dislike the damn thing. (Flaming arms about is not my cup-of-tea).

And how much is that little thing that gets clipped on to the end of the controller? Will it be worth the price tag?

Yeah it lacks big budget killer apps 3rd party games but it's full of average budget and niche 3rd party games with effort made for the wiimote use that sastifye me. And I think it has full of potential good titles in the future.

Still the 1st party lineup seems so far... not so good. There's Wario Land but still... I hope they reveal some new titles today.

There's only one AAA title on the Xbox 360 which the Wii and Xbox 360 share - and that's Civilizations. Every other Third Party title on the Xbox 360 is not found on the Wii - that's why I was saying. And I have my doubts on some of those being good games.

Look at those numbers in the OP, 69% of Wii games are average and/or crap titles. 69%! Maybe a few of those titles will be "good or better" but the majority of them will lie in that 69%.

Who would buy a console with only one to three good games? In a course of an entire console's lifetime, you would only buy first party titles? I find that hard to believe.

Civlizations isn't even on Wii anymore. Even if that next batch of games only yields like 4 or 5 AA's and maybe 2 AAA's, so what, by the time they are all out (I'm talking Madworld, Disaster, Deadly Creatures, de Blob, Warioland, those kind of games) it'll be around March '09 and by then I wouldn't be surprised if Wii had more sales than PS3 and 360 combined. That statistic alone will make the big developers sit up and take note, a console with a bigger userbase than 2 consoles? Less work but a bigger audience, what kind of developer wouldn't want to take advantage of that.

Plus I like the kind of obscure games more than the blockbusters, I would actually prefer if when a big company, let's say EPIC made a Wii game, rather than make a super all out shooter they made something a bit different. I like when a dev with talent makes a Wii game that sounds stupid but turns out awesome, like Boom Blox or Zack and Wiki.

You're not understanding the principle. If that percentage were smaller, that list of yours would be three or four times longer. You're limited to a very small category of titles. Understand?

I did so with the Cube. My only third party games were RE4 and MGS The Twins Snakes.

Edit: ortography fixed.

Yup, bi what I don't understand why that means a "Promise without Deliverance". We expected great games, we got them. That 69% is irrelevant in terms of gaming. You don't play percentages, you play good games. And the Wii has some very good ones.

Big time developers still believe the Wii is a joke - some won't even develop for it, other's view it as a childrens console. The Wii has been outselling the Xbox 360 and PS3 for how long? AND BY HOW MUCH? It's still hard to find a Wii? Really? What's that - oh, yeah... developers are still laughing at the Wii. It won't change, developers will probably never take the Wii seriously.

What kind of developer would want to develop on a console which would hold them back? Honestly. Developers make big bucks on the Xbox 360 and it will always be that way.

Jesus, this is not that difficult of a concept to comprehend. It's like you're proud of that percentage. You got a very few number of those good titles, which is nothing to be proud of. The Wii's library hold no ground to the Xbox 360s, PCs, and PS3s. That 69% is what keeps me from buying the Wii... along with a lot of other reasons too, but that stays put in my blog.

Hell, the original Xbox had twice the amount of good games on the console in one year than the Wii does right now at 1 3/5 of a year.

1. I perfectly understand that the Wii has a lot of shovelware, like the PS2 did, just like the DS does. But, again, you don't play the bad games, you play the good ones, and the Wii has good games. Is not that difficult to understand.

2. I just saw you support John McCain. That was everything I needed to know about you. I won't be discussing with you anymore. Enjoy your 360, we will enjoy our Wiis.

And why is that? To me, it's the only system that is going way beyond FPSs and RPGs, and I'm getting tired from so many of them.

Animal Crossing is a major anouncement. They still do care about the long-time and more dedicated gamers.

I'm very satisfied personally.

MS? Now their conference really sucked.
