Wow, no BC for the 40 gb...that kinda sucks. BC just makes things easier, even if I still plan on keeping my ps1 and ps2. white_sox
It's just an excuse for Sony to sell more PS2s since they are still making more money than the PS3.
Personally, I think BC is extremely important as I have invested so much in games from last gen. So far, the Wii is the only system doing it right.
Since when do lemmings care about B/C? 40gb will still have better B/C with just ps1 games.Ragnarok1051You don't seem to get the point. We don't care, you guys did, we got flack for it at launch and now you guys are trying to get away with it by saying its a good thing. The point is hypocracy, which when you look upthe definition you find sony. Also on a side note Didn't MS get docked for having multiple SKU's? Ya see what I did thar?

Sony did what they had to do to lower the cost, it's what the consumer's wanted in the end. You know what the funny thing is about those SKU's? All the M$ ones break down while the Sony ones are top notch. And its not just Sony who is hypocritical. I want B/C, but we can't get everything.

Just because It makes it cheaper it doesn't make it not hypocritical. Your beating around the bush. The problem with this whole board is right here in this post. "You guys" said this, "you guys" said that. I didn't know there was an official cow spokesperson. Just because a few people, who post a lot and seem like many people, say something, does not mean that you can make blanket statements about every person who owns a PS3.
This stupid "you guys" crap infects every argument on this board, from who's hyping what to which games flopped to whether sales or games are important, etc. Every drooling more-han froths at the mouth with "BUT YOU GUYS", and it needs to stop.
System Wars is where our civilization goes to die. It's an ugly place, and often makes me hate the world.
Unfortunately, I'm addicted to gaming and talking about gaming, and there is no place more active for all three consoles than right here. Double edged sword and all that.
[QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"] Sony did what they had to do to lower the costlowe0Here's a crazy suggestion... they could have not made the machines so expensive to begin with. Just a thought.

Business major in the house!
Yes, they could have cheaped out and farmed their production out to some third-world sweatshop and made their console out of combustible Fisher Price parts so it would melt on me. Oh please, Sony, pleeeeease!!

What's good hardware without games though? At least with MS you have a chance of playing good games(if you think every xbox is defective I can't help you). I'm kind of getting sick of people like you. You are reasoning and logical, but you are in system wars. There is no logic in system wars. The very name implys putting consoles against eachother. It's not going to change and the fact that you get that emotionally involved means you're not meant for it. System wars is basically a giant excuse to troll. And a side note about the PS3 price and it being smart. It truly is working for them isn't it, nintendo isn't totally proving you can have cheap parts and still make a profit.Who cares whether the 5%, 10% or 33% is real or not? Cause the real issue is it could be 100% because it is a design flaw to begin with.
here is some source:

and another:

Hopefully the 65nm that is coming next year will fix it. Cause even though 360 got major hardware issues, I would still like to check out masseffect and huxley IF they ever fix the 360 with the 65nm chip or something.
EDIT: If you are wondering whether the source is real or not.... Hey, how come M$ hasn't sued those guys (and lots of other sites) over posting this on the web? And there was a lawsuit against M$ too....
Funny no counter sue and it was probably settled out of court with lots of M$ONEY.

Second of all there are more people than not that haven't had a broken xbox. I agree there is a problem as mine have broken. The fact of the matter is MS has most of the games worth having so until next year there isnt really a reason to have a ps3.
Can we try to stay on topic Cows...

Arent most of the parts for the PS3 and 360 made in China?
I would be devastated without backwards compatibility... I own over 70+ PS1 and PS2 titles, and the sole reason I purchased a PS3 was due to the death of my PS2 (had it for 6 years and i abused that thing), I have so many games i have yet to beat... I was really tempted to purchase a 360... however with the death of my ps2... the choice seemed rather easy... I saw no point in purchasing 2 consoles. Honestly... it really does irritate me when people cry about how the ps3 is lacking games... sure the there may be a lack of ps3 titles... but c'mon i play more ps2 titles than ps3 games... I just bought bully, Psychonauts and Persona 3 just the other day... now tell me i'm bored with my ps3...pfft.... In addition, when i first purchased my ps3 I did figure part of the $600 I would spend would cover the cost of purchasing a new PS2.... exactly the same mentality I used when purchasing a PS2 (since I did not own a PS1... I chose the N64 back then....).
anyways here the top 3 games I play on my ps3 currently.... 1) Persona 3 2) Warhawk 3) Pro Evolution Soccer

Huh? That had nothing to do with my post. You said that if Sony never put BC in it would have lowered the cost of the PS3 (your first post in this chain). Then after lowe0 said posted about selling the consoles at a cheaper price, presumably by never including BC (presumably because he quoted your aforementioned post). Then you said "Wow and lose even more money by selling it cheaper", contradicting your first post because Sony could have sold PS3s at a lower price from day 1 by not including BC. Therefore, your second post makes no sense, unless you have multiple personalities.[QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"][QUOTE="PBSnipes"][QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"]Here's a crazy suggestion... they could have not made the machines so expensive to begin with. I rarely use backwards compatibilty on my 360, but I definitely want it. I never finished Shenmue II on my Xbox, so someday I want to go back to it (especially when they release Shenmue 3...please God!). I also never finished the side-adventure from the Xbox version of Silent Hill 2, and I'd like to see it running on my 42" plasma. BC isn't the most important thing in the world, but it's good to have. I've spent wayyyyy more time playing Persona 3 (for the PS2) on my PS3 than any PS3 games...
Wow, and here I was planning to buy the 40gb one. No backward compatability would be like cutting off one of my metaphorical limbs of gaming. I can barelyuse my PS2 because I can already tell the thing is on its last legs. It makes these horrible whirring noises and the AV cables are so frayed that the left Audio one snapped off a few days ago. :?
The thing is, if there's one thing I enjoy doing, it's playing old games and reliving the memories of what made them so great to begin with. I guess I'm really the only person who does that, but BC is pretty important to me. Ah well, I might be without either PS2 or PS3 games this gen at this rate.
How isNO BCa good thing, I can make 3 points that HAVING BC is a good thing.
1.People can selltheir PS2 to some guy/friend/cousin who doesn't have a PS2 and too poor to afford a PS3 and use that money for a PS3.
2. The 60GB can play PS2/PS1 games in 1080p with a WIRELESS controller, which PS2 itself cannot.
3. One less hassle for setting up PS2 and save more shelf space.

I was talking about the entire machine. For one, whacking in an entire EE+GS chip and 32 MB of RAM, just to have BC at launch - was it really worth it for those few months without a fully working software emulator? They should have shipped with a GS (which can't be emulated at full speed w/o EDRAM)and whatever they could have supported in software at launch. Then there's the card readers, extra USB ports, even the piano black finish screams "spared no expense" - which is great, if you're marketing to the video game equivalent of Mac users or BMW owners, but lousy if your product lives or dies on install base (like a video game console). Stringer and the board should have reigned in Kutaragi months before they did, asthe BOM for that thing has to be massive. Eventually, they did - useless features like 2xHDMI and extra Ethernet ports got the axe - but the machine is completely, massively overbuilt, and expecting consumers to just cough up for it is the height of arrogance.
