What if it's not offered like the first one? :P Also, I dunno if it's not offered and it's like the first game where no load times are seen after the initial load, I'll be ok. It'd be nice if other PS3 games did this too... but I usually install anyways if I can.I think I'm going to install it b/c I do this when ever possible anyway. Never did understand all the fuss with it installing anyway.

I think it really would not have mattered I mean all ps3's come with harddrives. Unless you just want to rant just to nitpick.
was anyone really dreading or expecting one?jasong1011
I wasn't... IIRC the original Uncharted didn't have one either.
was anyone really dreading or expecting one?jasong1011I kinda of was my 40 gig is running out of space.
its not a sandwich if it doesnt have hellmanns dont forget the mayo :P.I have 60 gis left.....Why not install...I will make that sandwich that I keep hearing about....:P

Lets just hope they give people the option to install, It would have done wonders for the campaign in Killzone 2. I don't think the majority of PS3 owners realize they can upgrade the harddrive or the ease and fairly cheap price to do so.
:| Uh oh. Thanks to this, I bet Uncharted 2 will get the same crap as Killzone 2, for freezing slightly during saves. Thanks to some litle brats who can't wait 5 minutes for their supreme game to load. Read the manual, it's not that big of a deal. PC gamers get by fine, and those are upwards of hour-long installs!
I wonder what the loading times will be like.Stevo_the_gamerlike the first game a long ass load time at the start to setup the 1 or so gig of info on the harddrive. that is continuesly streamed from and too at all times. It basically does what halo 3 does if you have a hard drive if uses it as a cache which is why installing the game takes up more load times on 360 because its a bit redundent stuff is loaded from 2 sources instead of just one.
what pc game take 1 hour to install? gears is the longest I've come across at around 30min while most are 5-10mins tops.:| Uh oh. Only have 14 gigs in my 80gb HDD....will have to upgrade soon. I don't see HDD shortage as a common problem though since most PS3 owners don't own a couple dozen PS3/PSN titles. And the fact that I'm so anal that I keep the installs even if I don't play the game anymore doesn't help either.
Even though they say it's "optional", there's no reason why you wouldn't install it to cut down on load time and make the game run a little smoother.

The initial load on the fist one didn't take that long geez.

actually it did, because the initial load time not only covered the loading screen but nearly every uninteractive action and scene taking place at that time, the same technology used in halo 3 is used in uncharted 1. where as a cache is set in place at initial load *which can range from 30 seconds to a minute long* and a load of common information is loaded into that cache the entire first part of when your playing through the front menus and every thing, this cache is constantly streamed too with more up to date common information based on the areas your in, and uncommon information is prefetched from the bluray disc, so you have 2 sources being loaded from, it is in essence no different then an install except with an install it should be one time and one time only, where as the cache has to be loaded every time you insert the disc. If they use the same tech then they will likely not offer a install for uncharted 2 because on halo 3 this made for slowdown becasue 2 sources are no longer being used to load only one *the hd* or if they do offer it it will likely have loading times on the install like halo 3 had. AS for that in terms of no load times compared to 30 seconds to a minute load times then yes its an long ass load time, just like halo 3 has a long ass intial load time. In the end they should just have a mandatory install of common data on the hd and then stream uncommon data and prefetch it instead of having a cache it would remove the initial loading sequence and allow you to get into the game far faster.I wonder what the loading times will be like.Stevo_the_gamerThe first one had one loading screen at the start which actually was pretty fast. After that though its all streamed.
i have two ps3s i bought on launch and i upgraded one with a 500 hdd so i dont mind to install games again and again im use to it anyway

You've confused your post and memories with my life.:P
Just for the record, I also like PC installs, great stuff, and I install all my 360 games that I currently play as well. :)
i'll always manage to find 3 - 5 gigs on my HDD to spare for amazing games such as Uncharted2.. if it has the install option i'll surely do it, its not a prob for me...
Shouldn't the same be said for every single console game?SpinoRaptor24No! Every time I play Killzone 2 and the game freezes for 2-3 seconds at each checkpoint I wish they would at least give me the opportunity to install the game. Not even speaking of Call of Juarez for PS3, one of my most anticipated games ruined by 10 second waits when reaching the next checkpoint. Consoles nowadays have freaking harddrives. I want to be able to use them. I can't understand how people can be so impatient that they don't want to wait for 5 minutes when playing a game for the first time. Good lord, read the manual while waiting. Once it's done you don't have to do it again.
I would've preferred an install if it even slightly decreases loading times. I honestly don't understand why everyone complains about a 5 minute install that you do once and never have to mess with again.:|All games, in my opinion, should have optional installs.
People who hail games like this as being evidence no PS3 games requires installs are annoying.
Of course if you go out of your way to design a game to run off 2x speed Blu-ray you won't need installs, but you won't get the benefits games that require higher speeds have either. It's like the people who keep pointing to Red Faction in regard to console physics capabilities, you cannot just take something from a game specifically designed to have it then throw it into a completely different game without the same resource distribution.
It's always good to know that the install isnt mandatory, but i'll install it anyway, like I always do.
well i don't have a prob with it and even do it on a few 360 games now that the option is offered but i believe the actual fuss was about sony driving the price of the ps3 up with bluray when if you have to install anyway the games could have just been on dvdI think I'm going to install it b/c I do this when ever possible anyway. Never did understand all the fuss with it installing anyway.

if i remember it right a few of the other "fusses" were about games like dmc 4 that had a 20 min install times and capcom making comments like make a sandwich to kill time until you can play it
