No Mans sky looks like trash

Over glorified viva pinata game with a huge world, watched some gamplay vids and holy crap does this game look borring. The only good thing i can say about it is the art style, But what is the point? you just walk around and name the animals? no platforming? No combat? Id rather play pokemon snap! What a dissapointment, The whole time me and my roomate watched the gameplay videos all we could say was, " Dammnit we got spored" ( Remember that game spore? LOL)

Somehow I wonder if all the Escapist shit being given to Star Citizen is rooted in some stake to take it down a notch in hopes Elite Dangerous gets more recognition, and I somehow am thinking the same thing regarding this post.

IMO, I'd just hopeful any effort to make a space sim succeeds in hopes to prop the genre up, especially on consoles, we don't really have much beyond Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky, except maybe Space Engineers (which I wouldn't be surprised if that gets abandoned on Xbox One), and I'm trying to get into Strike Suit Zero but... well, trying still.

I wish I could be as taken with a game as I once was with say with the Colony War games, or the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games.

There's a huge stylistic discrepancy between flying in space and exploring on-foot. The latter parts indeed look as if they were taken from Viva Pinata. I've come to the conclusion that this might be simply a glorified walking simulator. Even the game designer said something along the lines that some planets might not have any point to them.

I've always said from day 1 that I don't understand what the hell the game has going for it, what is the point? You explore worlds, cool, why? The scope is great, but why do anything in the game, they have had so long to explain what the game is about and haven't done that yet, instead blinding everyone with "look how massive our universe upon universe is".

@Salt_The_Fries: Yeah man like why is this game getting so much hype? Walking simulator for sure. My hype for this game has dropped insanely after watching videos of it. I almost got spored, ill never get spored again I promised myself that. Spore was supposed to be a "ground breaking" new type of game like no mans sky, it turned into a penis monster character creator. When they show the scale of how many galaxies their are in the game i almost got exited untill i realized they proabably recycle the same creatures and enviroments to fill up those galaxies, NO WAY are all of those planets going to be unique lol.

I agree to an extent, this universe just looks fun to explore. I'm intrigued in that they mentioned theres something crazy at the center of the universe that everyones headed towards, hopefully it involves some elaborate puzzle that has users combing over ancient alien ruins and examing star charts, I think that could be really cool.

If you are really looking for fast paced combat heavy game, set in open world then you should check out Everspace. Unlike NMS, this game is a lot more focused on dog-fighting and has story elements too. It's currently in development for PC but devs plan to bring it to Consoles once PC version is out.

@jeezers: No prob man. And devs of this game are good too because their previous game "Galaxy on Fire" was pretty good too. It was primarily a mobile game but it wasn't just any other mobile cash grab but a great game with big galaxy, story and a lot of exploration. Now since they've more experience and money, they are entering PC and Console market.

I don't understand the hype either. Huge (unlimited) randomly generated environments are nothing new, and they have some major downsides. I can see why it might be an interesting gimmick to some people, but from what I've seen the gameplay is virtually non-existent and all the planets shown off so far look generic as hell with no interesting landscapes - as you'd expect from terrain made by algorithms and not a level designer/artist. At least games like Dear Esther and Everyone's Gone To The Rapture have detailed and interesting environments to explore.

I'd seriously like to hear from someone who's hyping this game exactly what's got them excited, because from what I've seen it looks mind numbing.

It does look ugly, dislike its art style. Feels like there's so much color that it melts my eyes. Technically it looks like a crappy UE3 game

Yeah but then it was confirmed to be released on PC at the same time, so hype was gone. Still remember threads made by Damien, saying that he hopes that PC version is cancelled and threads about comparisons between NMS and other Space Sims, and how NMS looks more "fun" and Space Sims will require "Manuals".

It's aesthetically pleasing, but there's no definitive answer as to what the game actually is. I support the idea, but the reality I'm afraid is going to be underwhelming. I will at the very least give it a chance, but I am going to be extreme in my scrutiny.

The longer we've waited the less I'm anticipating it. I hope that it ends up being a solid game.

Space exploration is very fascinating to me. so I think the game looks great. I don't need to shoot anything or do any "platforming" to have fun.

Two words that pretty much guarantee this will be poop..RANDOMLY GENERATED. I don't think I've played a single game that used this to good effect.

No Man's Sky is like a dream come true for the kind of gamer who doesn't use Fast Travel in an Elder Scrolls game.. Some people are going to get it, others are not. It's a video game about being lost in a massive video game. In the end, your personal tastes for video games are not System Wars worthy, and if you are going to invest yourself emotionally in hating a game then do yourself a favor and actually do some research before looking like a prat.

Unlike most gamers i will make my final conclusion when ii see a substatial amount of the game and i have all the facts by actualy playing the full game when its finally released.

But i suppose its more fun to come to concrete conclusions wth no evidence what so ever and by only seeing a slice of out of context gameplay......after all is that not the SW way?

I'm not impressed by it.

Since the only thing you do in the game is explore they should have made the worlds far more varied. Every video I have seen they all look generally the same. Some in this thread have mentioned Bethesda games as a comparison but they have a massive world, story, several different enemies, side quests, dungeons, rpg, side quests, and much much more. This game is walking around different planets and from what I have seen they are all generally the same with maybe different colors.

So unlike most gamers you pay$60 for a game you can not even say why, sounds kinda dumb. Stop acting like you are above everyone else since your reason for spending money on this game is you will find out what it is all about after you bought it. You sound more like a sucker. A developer is supposed to give me reasons to buy their game and not I buy it to find out if there were reasons to do so like you just said.

You sound like someone who never got videogames as a gift when you were young. A lot of us grew up doing this crazy thing called TRYING a game out with nothing but box art and a description on the back. If you think the experience of playing every game can be (or will be) honestly given to you by the developer then you are every single bit as much the dummy as you are making naz out to be.

Never had any interest in this game. Just looked like a complete borefeast but I thought this game was suppose to come out this year? Did they even announce a release date yet?

I've been saying this for a year. This game is a fraud and will flop.

I stopped caring about it a couple weeks after E3 2014.

All the footage that they have shown since its announcements have been nothing poor flying and walking simulator of poorly designed boring worlds.
