This is in response for all the hate of Sony removing the BC from the 40gb PS3.

No matter what Sony does for its consumers, it is never good enough. For the past year people have been constantly bashing the PS3 for being so expensive and not having rumble. Now Sony has dropped the price and is going to put rumble back into the controllers. Isn't this what everybody wanted? Obviously not.

To get the price down they droped BC. Now the PS3 costs only $400 yet people now bash them for not having BC yet they have the 80gb version with BC for only $100 more. On top of that people bash Sony for adding rumble to their controllers. They constantly bash them for going agianst how they said rumble isn't needed.

Instead of bashing why don't people realize that Sony has been responding to the consumers. People wanted a price drop, Sony gave it to us. People wanted rumble back, Sony gives it to us. This is great, Sony is delievering what the consumer wants. Sure not at first becuase they wanted to try something new, and unlike Nintendo they weren't to successful in that. So they are going back to what consumers want of them yet still introducing some new things into the market.

So now people bash the PS3 for not having games, but right on the horizon there are a few games that have a ton of potential. When those games release what will people bash Sony for having? They lowered the price, added rumble, have free online, soon will have games, and they will soon introduce Home.

Also another good thing that is happening to the PS3 is that it is picking up some old 360 exclusives (Lost Planet for example). The game library of the PS3 is increasing in size.

No matter what Sony does from this point out, people will never be happy. They could give the system away for free and people will still bash them.

What will it take for Sony to regain respect with everybody?

I think that a lot of people are on sonys case because of their arrogance going into this generation of consoles. I was excited about the ps3 until sonys PR opened their mouth, then I just kinda looked away. I know several people that felt the same way, so in their eyes sony is just not so great anymore.

"No matter what Sony does from this point out, people will never be happy." -- nope it's really just close minded people on System Wars. Which make up a whopping 0.00001% of the gaming population.

$400 Blu-Ray player is a steal, even without the games. Hah, and than FF, MGS4, GT5 coming rolling in. I can't understand threads like these.

Sure people may be dissapointed in having to wait this long, but hey -- whatever.

They still deliever. You are saying in all of their life Nintendo hasn't been arrogent? Look at what they are doing. Since the system released it has only 7 games that have a 8.0+ score on Gamerankings.

So what if Sony's PR division sucks. All that truely matters is what they deliever.

Sony destroyed the competition with the PS1 and PS2. If you ask me, they kinda earned the right to talk to some ****. And if nothing else, it was pretty entertaining.

What? How were they arrogent last gen? They made an amazing system then supported it with everything. Sure the DRE's were a problem, but how the hell did they know that was going to happen when the built the PS2? They even fixed the problem right away in the later models.

Bring back the 60GB with full BC, and lower it to $400. There you go, problem solved.

It's not the fact they dropped the price, that's all well and good it's the fact they took out the functionality they boasted in the first place. Sony went out of their way to ridicule MS for not having BC in the 360.

Whether or not their system was awesome (which it was), they were still really full of it. Many of their later press conferences revolved around boasting about how awesome their system was. Sure, they delivered, but I think they could have used a little more sportsmanship.

Its called the business world, it isn't a football game. You need to boast about your prodcut, sell it. You need to convince people it is better than the competition even when you know it isn't.

Boohoo for poor Sony.  They were on top, they got complacent, they got eaten alive.  Microsoft's done it to hundreds of competitors before Sony, and they'll do it to hundreds afterwards.  To me, the one thing that most highlights their arrogance isn't 4D, it isn't "they'd buy it with no games", it's not even "rumble is last gen".  It's demanding 96 MB of reserved memory, in a box that's not exactly packed with it.  That tells the developers "you'll have to make do with less, because what we want to do is more important than the experience you're creating." Never mind that MS delivers more firmware features in a third of the reserved memory.  That's arrogance, and that's why we're not happy with Sony.  Nothing they've done is out of respect for the customer - it's pure desperation.
The real shocker isn't that Sony blew it, but that Nintendo created a monster hit.  I had really written them off - not anymore.

Don't let SW sway you. There's respect for the PS3 out there that doesn't involve the words "System" "Wars"

I'd happily buy a PS3 80GB. Personally to me that's not a bad deal and Uncharted and R&C are games I really want to play. However my problem is that I just can't cause I won't have any use for video games at the end of the year. :P

What I am upset about Sony is the fact that their original plan was dumb yet they thought it was great. But now they fixed all of that.

I agree, though the decision to remove BC (on the 40GB) is risky; it was one of the main contributors to gamers purchasing the PS2. I understand they want to encourage the purchase of PS3 games, but having the ability to play three generations of games on one console is a huuuge feature.

Aside from that, some people aren't giving Sony much credit, instead they're searching (in vain) for other reasons to bash them. I say to hell with those 'haters', let those of us who actually welcome the changes, enjoy them without the b*****g from the peanut gallery.

And as I've said quite a few times before, the "no games" claim is past old.

That [print money] and ps3 should come with a built-in power generator that runs on water. Enought to power the ps3 and a hdtv 46". It should also be able to play all Ninty, xbox, 360, and pc games that are printed on DVD or CD. It must be self-cleaning during standby too. People are [generally] selfish and greedy.

See what you fail to realize is that nobody cares about anything you mentioned. A large potion of us are here to have arguments and pick sides. That is the whole theme of this forum.

I have frequented System Wars since Xbox launched. I defended Xbox all the way through the losing era. I was flamed, bashed, and laughed at everytime I stated positive things about Xbox.

Times have changed. Oh man how times have changed....as a matter of fact you could very appropriately use the cliche "the tables have turned".

So today it is you we laugh and point the finger at. PS3 has been the laughing stock of the world since launch, and now your some anonymous fanboy who tries to tell us that we should stop. What you also fail to realize is that we are having to much damn fun laughing at Sony right now that we simply just don't want to stop. So get over it and move on.

The problem with sony is that all their cool black box hyper classy marketing doesn't really seem fun. it seems really cool and elite and stuff, but not fun. sony needs to change its imae a bit, and get some games that really excite people.

Is that really what gives you satisfaction? Company loyalty and laughing at the stumblings of another?

Fun and satisfaction are two very different words. Nice try though fanboy.

software BC does not cost that much they did it because they want people to move on from their PS2 games. For people who have 30+ps2 games like some of my friends kinda silly don't you think?

as to your central question i myself will probably never buy a ps3 because i just counted the number of games i want for my 360 next year and its over 10 if i add in the rest of this year its over 15 so adding ps3 + ps3 games will be over 20-25 games plus $400 which is impossible.

Personally right now the ps3 should be $300 thats my personal view on how much their game line up is worth, people will probably disagree with me but thats my view.

They still deliever. You are saying in all of their life Nintendo hasn't been arrogent? Look at what they are doing. Since the system released it has only 7 games that have a 8.0+ score on Gamerankings.

So what if Sony's PR division sucks. All that truely matters is what they deliever.

they could've delivered bc and the cost wouldn't of been that much more.........

The problem with sony is that all their cool black box hyper classy marketing doesn't really seem fun. it seems really cool and elite and stuff, but not fun. sony needs to change its imae a bit, and get some games that really excite people.osirisomeomi

The ps3commercials are retarded and I own a ps3. Lucky, I do my research before buying it so I know what I am getting.

If you want great games all the time, the PC is the way to go. If you like online, PC is still the way to go with all the mods and PC allows more people during a multiplayer games. Check the game spec and you will notice most of the time, the PC version is 32maxor more while the console version suffers.

Yeah, people say things like how every console fails its 3rd time, and history repeats itself, but in the same idea, PS1 sold like trash for about first year, I don't even know if it broke a million at first, PS2 sold a lot better but had No Good Games for about first year, PSP's first year was also not too great, and now all of those are quite successful (regardless of all the PSP hate, its doing mighty fine for going up against nintendo, and has plenty of AAA and AA titles worth playing).

I'm not saying PS3 will sell 100 million units, or it will come out in first, but every single playstation platform has had a slow start, and gotten amazing games as it went along, I have very high expectations for the future, no matter what anyone says.

What does the Game Boy line and The Playstation line have in common? Don't know well I'll tell you. Its B/C.

When you are coming off the success of the most successful system in gaming history you don't cut all ties to that system for newer generations by axeing B/C. You simply do not ******* do it.

Thre reason why people aren't happy with Sony is simple. They continue to subtract. They took huge backlash from removing Rumble so why the hell do they think they will get away with removing B/C?

You can't expect me to be happy with them removing another feature. Essentially until Dual Shock 3 comes out the PS3 doesn't have an affordable solution for me that comes with Rumble and B/C two things which the other two consoles have (360 to some extent)

While I don't speak for everyone and I am only speaking for myself. Sony is still far from me being happy with them even from a Hardware standpoint.

I'm not here debating semantics; and my question still stands. I don't see how mocking a company, it's employees and it's product while defending "your own" company is fun to you. If people want fun, why aren't they playing the consoles they covet and praise so much for how much funner and superior they are?

It's not the fact they dropped the price, that's all well and good it's the fact they took out the functionality they boasted in the first place. Sony went out of their way to ridicule MS for not having BC in the 360.DaysAirlines

Why is mocking a bad movie fun? There is no answer to that. Why do people gossip about other people? They obviously enjoy it, but if you ask them why they have fun doing it then they would probably shrug. The best answer I could give you is that being a critic is what humans are naturally born to be.

You know, I think you must have read my mind. I have been sitting here reading posts on this board thinking the exact same thing, but I never replied because the only thing that would have ensued is a big ole' typical System Wars arguement. So, I just bit my tongue on this one instead and told myself, "what's the point, it would fall on deaf ears." But I will chime in anyway.

You are absolutely correct, TC, and I am glad you posted this. People complain because the PS3 is too expensive and has too many features, so what does Sony do? They respond in kind by lowering the price of the 80GB AND come out with another more affordable model as well. People complain because there are not enough good games. Well, development takes time, and the PS3 certainly has some good games, and plenty more on the way. They are trying.

Yet no matter how many times Sony answers the consumer, some people refuse to see the positive, and instead only focus on every negative they kind find. It is never good enough. What about the negatives of the console that they own? Nothing can be perfect. The 360 and Wii certainly are not without their negative attributes. What the hell do people expect? Considering that besides being able to play PS3 games, the 40GB is a Blu Ray Player with true HD hdmi as well. For 400.00, that is a great price.

Does the 360 Elite (or 360 period) play HD-DVD? Hell no, you need to buy an add-on, lol. Yet, it is only 50.00 less than the 40GB PS3, yet the 40GB PS3 gives you a Blu Ray player as well. Wait, I bet your answer is, "I do not care for watching movies, I just want to play games." But I can guarantee you, (this is of course impossible but it's just for the sake of arguement) that if they some how made a modified PS3 that could not play Blu Ray movies in order to lower the price to 299.00, crazy fanboys would scream bloody murder and still deem it the "gimped version."

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. There is no pleasing fanboys who just want to pathetically bash another console just because they happen to like another one better. Good thing in the real world outside of System Wars, I am sure that there will be plenty of happy consumers who will jump all over the new 40GB PS3 so they can play PS3 games, which is what the PS3 was made for...not PS2 games. And they will also have a blu ray player to boot.

You want to play PS2 games? Buy a PS2, they are not that expensive these days, lol. Why do you whiners want a PS3 in the first place, if you are mad because you will not be able to play PS2 games on the 40GB? I thought that most people's main reason for buying any next gen console is so they can play the next generation of games...not last gen's games. You whiners argument holds no weight at all. So stop making yourselves sound so ridiculous already.

That's what really miffed me. They talked about how BC is so central and then dump it after the first year. Anyway my 60gig is in the mail so I obviously don't hate Sony, but this was one of their lows this gen.

Ok so now PS2 games "aren't important" but before the 360 launched BC was "ALL IMPORTANT" gimme a freaking break..

Sony deserves all the ridicule they're getting just for their big ****ing mouths.. Duh.. "Next gen doesn't start until we say it does... " Duh.. "it's teh XBox 1.5.." Ok Shemp so what happened???!!!???

360's kicking your ass in sales.. 360's kicking your ass in software.. And you lost possible 3 of your biggest exclusives to the 360 (VF5, DMC4, GTAIV..)

It's called Karma's a B****!!!

I get no amusement out of attacking a company because they stumbled. That's petty and childish.

Your idea of fun is clearly different than mine.
