I have played countless shooters. Multiplayer, split-screen, LAN. They're always fun, there is a certain satisfaction to be had with shooting your friends in the head and laughing about it later. However, all these games seem to bleed together. Although they could be totally different gamers, the experience has the same feel. Today, when people say "multiplayer" people think "shooter."

A few nights ago, me and my friend loaded up some Melee to get pumped for Brawl. What ensued was both nostalgic, and also more exciting then today'smultiplayershooters. I was under a hard shell of thinking that shooters ruled the multiplayer fun-factor, but Smash proved me wrong. We were laughing to the point of tears sometimes, being really competitive other times. Overall, it just reminded me that no multiplayer shooter can match a good round of Smash. Beating the snot out of each other with Nintendo characters is far better then any headshot.

In addition, it made me realize (again) how godly Brawl is going to be. It can't come soon enough.

1) Smash isn't a fighting game, it's a beat 'em up.

2) I'm basing it PURELY on fun-factor.

Complete opinion but I totally agree. I've had more fun with Melee, between beating friends and family senseless and convention tournaments, than any other game. Add in online multiplayer to that mix and OH MAN. Brawl is going to be fantastic.

There is no way that you could win Smash by button mashing, unless you are playing against someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Unlike proper fighting games, you aren't constantly forced into close quarters, so positioning and timing are vital.

It's actually one of the beauties of Smash. If you want to hammer the A button, you can hold your own. If you want to expand your skills and really start getting good, the option in there.

Well, I hate shooters, and I enjoy playing melee at my friends house. The thing is, me and like 8 friends went on a trip and they took the gamecube, I took my ps2 with my multitap, at first we started playing smash, but we got bored at midnigth, I put my ps2 and we started to play winning eleven(pro evolution soccer), we enjoyed it a lot more, we played until the next day, and everyone wanted to play, it must be the first time we stick to a multiplayer so much, before that we used to play smash for like 3 hours and then left it, but this was big, I mean, all night, like 8 hours of pure fun.

U are right, but its not that challenging, I use link, and at the beggining(I have ps2 and I think the gamecube control sucks), I could survive usig just the spin thing, now I play really better, but, I think games like budokai 3 are more difficult and need better reactions and combinations

I love people who think they're good as falco, and then just spam his >B. The only way to play smash is by mixing up your moves, and using a lot of mid-air attacks. And NEVER stop moving unless your opponent is really far away.

What were you playing against? Surviving with just his ^B? Do you have any understanding of SHFFL, wavedashing, L-Cancelling? The only way you could win with nothing but Link's ^B is if you were playing against lvl 1 closerange computers.

I've seen those so called high profile matches. They simply involve people trying to hit each-other, with no high speed movement or recovery. Brawl requires button inputs within only a couple of frames, and maintaining motions that take place in less than a tenth of a second.

Did I say I won, I have friends that are really good at this thing, I tried to play stages like Hirule temple and I hid somewhere, nobody noticed it and I trew arrows and when they attacked me I used the spin thing, I usually waited for some to die, then I tried to fight, and usually lost, but I came in 2nd

But of course the traditional fighter fan could counter with a game which has the same thing and it all degenerates into a giant online bicker-fest of "NO! Mine is bigger!" Look, I've seen the Smash videos and the Street Fighter videos and have come to one conclusion: they mean nothing unless you grasp how difficult it is to pull off the manuvers. The complicated manuvers in Smash are very difficult to pull off, just like the complicated manuvers in Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, name your game. They're just complicated in a different way. So please, everyone, regardless of what side you're on, stop this. Both games are very complicated and difficult when played on a high level. Just because you're familiar with one type of difficult doesn't make the other kind of difficult not difficult. Let's just accept that and move on.

I'd just like to point out that Brawl does not have any complicated or difficult manouvers. The most advanced technique is SHFFLing, and that only requires only three buttons, and is several movements at once. The whole point of Brawl is having your timing perfect, and optimizing your use of range. Also, from the relatively small movelist, the most effective move must be chosen, but depending on whether your running, standing still, or jumping, your moves are once again limited to four basic moves, and the four uniqe moves you have.

It's actually one of the beauties of Smash. If you want to hammer the A button, you can hold your own. If you want to expand your skills and really start getting good, the option in there.

Ugh. Here it comes. Sheep trying to make Smash Bros. sound like some technical marvel. I've seen these so called high profile matches on you tube. Its people hitting each other off a stage. You want technical marvel I've seen Street Fighter II matches that would make your eyes bug out.

I've seen those so called high profile matches. They simply involve people trying to hit each-other, with no high speed movement or recovery. Brawl requires button inputs within only a couple of frames, and maintaining motions that take place in less than a tenth of a second.

Its not that hard, I dont even own it or a gamecube and Im better than most of the guys that have it, u just have to get used to the gamecube useless controller, I forgot to mention I only play it in my friends houses, not very often, since they dont live close to my house

A few posts ago, you just admitted that they were better than you. I wish I could play you right now, and show you how to really play melee.

I don't even own the game, and my friend does. However, I have borrowed it alot, and play it often, and I can beat him easily (when I say play it often, I mean that I have my own file on my memory card, and have unlocked everything in the game (that affects gameplay)). I can beat him easy, and have a much greater of understanding of the strategy required in the game. So, obviously, owning the game doesn't mean you're good at it.

I can't bring myself to want to play the game, let alone consider it better than any shooter.

[QUOTE="JayPee89"]Why are you comparing a fighting game to shooters? Virtua Fighter > Call of Duty. :roll:NAPK1NS

1) Smash isn't a fighting game, it's a beat 'em up.

2) I'm basing it PURELY on fun-factor.

 beat em up=streets of rage. SSBB is a fighter.

I said that they where when I started, and I said most of them, of the two that beat me one owns the game, the other doesnt, this means is not a complicated game, even I who dont play a lot can take level 9 com easily, thing that can not be done on any other fighter.

You readily admitted you haven't played that game, sure you should be saying anything right here?

Smash can be played with four people (fighting games are typically tied to two people). There are also no long combos or anything like it, which is asignaturefeature for any fighting game.
