Let's be honest: Do we really think the Xbox series X is gonna light the world on fire? If the Xbox one X couldn't do it, what makes anyone think the series X is gonna do the same? It does have better specs but it offers the exact same love it or hate it "Xbox" experience as before: advertisements a plenty, a user interface so bad they have to change every 3 months because they can't get it right, a store Helen Keller must have designed, the same 3 or 4 franchises and more of that fun stuff we all love about Xbox. That means if Xbox couldn't sway people before, it isn't gonna change anyone's mind at this point.
Anyone who wanted Xbox before could have switched to it but instead it got steamrolled by PS4 and switch. Hardcore Xbox fans will continue to buy but only them. I guarantee the vast majority of the world: PC gamers, PlayStation gamers, Nintendo gamers, mobile gamers, non gamers will continue to not buy Xbox just like before. Even if the Xbox series X is a little more powerful, most people besides system wars aren't going to care. Most people who really care like me go to PC where I don't have to play at 30fps ever and I can still play Xbox games. Xbox series X and PS5 will still have 30fps games.
PlayStation 5 will have backwards compatibility for 100 million people so they are unlikely to switch and lose everything, their friends are most likely gonna get the ps5 since PlayStation is a stronger world-wide brand and has a significantly larger market share and PlayStation for the last decade has been creating new IPs and has stronger first party developers that excite people more than Xbox. For most people, PS5 will be close enough in power. PlayStation will have 10.28 tflops which is still pretty damn good considering how good uncharted 4 still looks on 1.84 tflops and play 95 percent the same games as Xbox but with the added bonus of enticing AAA exclusives that people actually want so people will continue to buy that just like before. Devs aren't gonna make a big graphical difference between Xbox and ps5 considering they will likely sell twice as many copies on PlayStation anyways. If you want a big difference from PlayStation, PC is the answer, not Xbox. History shows that what friends are playing and what games they offer determine a consoles success, not power difference.
Game wise, Xbox does not appear to be bringing anything particular new or exciting to most people yet again, they haven't for the past decade, its just the same old last gen era Halo, gears, Forza, fable most people don't care about anymore. It's 2020 not 2007, people want new next gen experiences not middle school mid 2000 throwbacks everyone and their grandpa already achievement hunted. Anybody who was excited had their hopes dashed away by Halo Infinites abysmal graphics that are so bad that lems can't defend it, 343 hired a 2nd dev to fix the trainwreck, and Phil delayed it.
Halo missing the launch window is a catastrophic blunder that could greatly affect the XsX's success this gen. Imagine if Halo 1 missed it's launch window, Xbox could have gone the route of the dreamcast and it would have been a sad and unfortunate failure. Xbox series X should have launched with a triumpant roar like the king of the jungle, instead it's going to launch with a soft whimper like a frightened and timid kitten without a killer app and with everyone laughing at Halo's graphics and xbox's lack of games yet again. At least we got introduced to Craig the Brute, the single most exciting and original thing to come from Halo in the last decade as sad as that is. Here's an idea Microsoft since you are clearly artistically bankrupt: someone should make a game starring Craig, some one other than 343. After the call of duty infused Halo 4 and the abysmal Halo 5 campaign, I'm not sure why Halo Infinite is on anyone's radar at this point. Everything else shown during the "Xbox showcase" was indie trash that nobody wants. Can anyone mention a single other worthwhile game in that entire show? The world wants God of War 2 or new AAA IPs not "Girls of Woke 6" or "Halo: Infinite Disappointment" by inferior studios.
What the hell does Xbox even have for launch this holiday? A 2d Battletoads?? What's the point of 12 tflops if the games are trash?? LMAO!! Anyone who thinks the Xbox series X will outsell Ps5 is delusional, ps5 is gonna steamroll Xbox series X and hell, I would argue Xbox series S might outsell X also.
People want new games and experiences. That is what "next gen" really means. Yeah Sony's games were a little too "last of Us"ish this past gen I'll admit but at least they continue to bring new experiences like Ghost of tsushima, horizon zero dawn, and days gone for example instead of old games grandpa would like. Playstation will continue to bring new experiences with the ps5 just like they always have every gen thanks to Sony having some of the most talented devs in the industry. They also have 25 years of quality content they can access or resurrect. It's no secret that Xbox has been stagnant gamewise for the past decade and whether that's gonna change is anyone's guess. It should have changed in 2013, now here we are again seven years later, it's a new gen and just like before, nothing has changed. If Xbox continues the same 2000s throwback of games like they have the past decade, people will continue not to care.
Also, every Xbox series X console exclusive has to run on Xbox series S and the underpowered even in 2013 OG Xbox one. Gee, thanks Phil! At least ps5 games are optimized only for ps5, not ancient mediocre 2013 tech. No wonder Halo infinite looked like a flaming dumpster fire, I wonder what Girls of Woke 6 will look like? It's got to be able to run on those two also so it will probably also look like dog crap on a hot summers day too. Xcloud Is cool but the only people who really care, lems, don't stream games so it's gonna flop anyways. Game pass is cool too but niche tbh, it offers same dated Xbox experiences, and it's on PC so me and other people will use that instead. Hopefully Sony offers something similar, I would rather use that. And when the hell is Microsoft going to give Xbox gamers the option for VR? It's niche but Jesus, at least give some of us that option. Maybe someone will actually buy your windows mixed reality headset, Phil!
