I dont know, this whole generation, I havent really had much fun with any singleplayer games. Most of them feel like chores and I just finish them to get it over with...

Last generation, I was all about singleplayer games, and even now, I still prefer single player experiences(if they are fun, which they arent really anymore.) This gen though its horrible, i get bored of single player real quick and just move to online, which I usually do have fun with...

Here are some successful/well known games that Ill elaborate on

Halo 3...hated singleplayer, totally felt like a chore, never even finished it, frustrating

Gears of War...I actually liked its single player, it was fun

Gears of War 2... boring, felt like a chore

Call of Duty 4...it was okay

Call of Duty 5, total freaking chore, didnt even want to finish it but was kinda forced to because of my friend(coop)

GTA4...felt like a chore finishing it

Unchartered...this one was actually nice, about 75% of the way through, I got bored though...

Crisis Core...total chore, repetitive, only finished it to finish the story

MGS4...funnest singleplayer experience this gen, only one that can truly match up to that of games last gen

Resistance 2...about 25% of the time it was fun, the rest just boring

Ratchet and Clank...barely played it, from what I played it was pretty damn boring

I dunno if its the games or Im just changing but yeah, anyone else feel this?

You know it might help if you branched out a bit. These are all pretty well acclaimed games, but they also fail to carry alot of suprises. You should look to more original titles rather than what all the critics tell you are the best things since sliced bread. I would give some suggestions but I wouldn't even know where to start.

Chat with a friend while playing single player games. It usually helps me if I'm feeling bored playing solo.

I love a great single player game but Shooters are not great single player games for the most part. I prefer a good action/adventure for my single player romps.

Same here, if I play a good single player game, I would prefer it a lot more than the MP. The initial SP experience of a good game is the best thing in game but there just arent any(many) this gen.

I used to feel like all I cared about was MP... but recently I've actually fell back in love with the single player campaign. MGS4? Beat campaign, didnt enjoy online. GTAIV? Beat campaign, didnt enjoy online. Resistance 2? Beat campaign, havent played online... yet. Gears 2? Beat campaign, didnt enjoy online. COD5? Beat campaign, didnt really get into the online MP.... I love single player campaign, they offer an experince that MP's cant... and vica versa.

@TC, your problem is that you are playing the wrong kind of games for a good solo expirience. Most of the single player modes of the games you mentioned suck ass. You need to go buy a good platformer, or an RPG like Oblivion, Fable II, Fallout 3, or Blue Dragon, Lost Oddessey, games like that. You could also try a tactical RPG like Valkeryia Chronoicles.

Sereiously I think its the games your playing.

Only reason I play console games are for the SPs. I recently got ninja gaiden 2 and that's pretty fun, difficult but fun. Gears 2 SP was pretty good as well, I don't know how it felt like a chore to you. Anyway if console games start having lackluster sps I'll just not bother with them anymore.

I have to be enjoying some bowls with my single player games to enjoy them, otherwise I just play online. I have a short attention span when it comes to games.

I agree with you 100%, why do most campaigns end up not being that great? What's funny is that you listed some overrated games on there, like GTA IV and Halo 3. While it all comes down to opinions, I wish developers would make the campaigns a bit better. And no, I don't hate shooters, some of my favprite games of all time are shooters, like Perfect Dark and No One Lives Forever.

Considering the list of games in the OP, its no wonder the TC finds the singleplayer experience unfulfilling.

Most of the time FPS games have generic storylines (like most games), but don't really innovate it. AND, they are mostly war-related, which can get pretty stale...As others have said, try spicing up your game genres with some RPGs, and action adventures.
A lot of great games are that, that are built on Single Player, just to name a few "Big" ones:
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Fallout 3
Three of the four above are semi-old, therefore...cheaper prices! Yay! :D. But, yes, the grippingness (totally not a word) of FPS are usually stale. If you are looking for a game that ISNT a chore, try something else. Sports, Action-Adventure, and RPGs.

However! I will say right away, any time you strive to just get the achievements, it will always be a chore. ALWAYS.

Out of all the games you listed, only COD4 was enjoyable, and that was only the prologue. GTA4 i got to the second safe house then quit playing it. I agree with everything you've said except Gears 2 was alright. MGS4 was the best single player on that list (for obvious reasons), but even that was boring. Mulltiplayer is where my fun comes from ... of at all. Although, Mass Effect and Lost odyssey are games you should try

I dont know about boring\uninspired, but I would say say that most of the SP experiences have been either far too short or too easy, and often both. Granted, games like Dead Space and PoP were loads of fun while they lasted, but even on the hardest difficulty they were far too easy and brief, and I would feel ripped off if I had bought them instead of rented(Gamefly ftw). The only SP-only game that I have that I feel in no way ripped off for purchasing is Valkyria Chronicles, they just don't make the SP experience the way they used to(although I'll admit to a bias there), MP is the way to go these days, and probably will continue to be, until they can program AIs that are a challenge, or go back to maing games that last long enough to justify a purchase.

The problem is that you played almost entirely multiplayer based games there, so of course the single-player wasn't going to be all that great. I really don't like online mulitplayer at all, and I'm still enjoying gaming this gen.
