They count the ones that are exchanged at the store as the sold and since a recent online survey that I saw somewhere said that 62% of 360 owner had to change their 360s once and some twice ect. My cousin is on his 3rd 360 write now and so it just my be that those 10 million they said supposodly sold is about in the 6-8 million. Thats my feeling.

Opinion does not equal fact.

Nor could a 62% failure rate be even remotely close to accurate since such a high sum would doubtless result in a government-enforced mandatory recall

I heard the number was nearer to 78%, that means not including replacements Microsoft has only sold around 4 million 360's.

They repair the broken ones for free under the new warranty and is logically something that is bought only once

They're investigating the rates, but the official leading it has already come out and said her hands were tied as far as a recall. Indicating that either the problem is not severe enough, or the investigation isn't being taken seriously.

As for knowing someone whose 360 has failed... the only person I know who had their's break broke it out of their own negligence (moving the system while it was turned on and had a game in the tray)

Actually, I heard they've only sold 4 and they've had to replace them several million times.  Good logic there.

I'm sorry I failed to clarify... I meant moving it from horizontal to a 45 degree angle and back (removing the 360 from a bookshelf and placing it on the floor)

Ill admit...I believe their failure rate has to be at least 20-30% which is just as bad....but wut u just said was not right. i mean come...Ms has had a warranty....if no one has used it to their advantage it's their fault. I believe that Ms did over estimated how many 360s sold but it has to be near 10 million owners....and it's proably 11 and 12 sold but since there were either recalled or given back to best buy or any other store....it's about 9.5-10

Everyone knows MS has only sold 14 360s, they've just had to replace them hundreds of thousands of times.

The poll was from 5000 people on an Xbox fansite..... about as legit as you are going to get.

5000 out of roughly 11 million? Thats 0.045% of all 360 owners. Real solid sample base. A good sample would be something like 500,000-1,000,000 users.

WOW! That means that Gears of War has sold through to over 100% of the userbase! I wonder, do you think some people just had to have a second copy, or was the game so great that people without 360s wanted it just to look at?

Some frickin people.

Who do you think is more likely to vote someone with a broken 360 or someone with a working one. (Also there is the fanboy issue)

All the rest were bought my Bill Gates and Buffet and also by a two legged horse named Picalo!!!

Actually statistic is a lot more complicated than that. The audience in the poll is only a small part of the entire sample size. It does how ever show that it is a problem but not to the extent that everyone makes of it. Rumors and lies spread faster than truth.

I highly doubt they count exchanged 360s as sold. And the survey was to about 2000 people, the xbox360 has been sold to around 10 million people lol./

Uh most people replace theirs through Microsoft (90%+ probably) which arent counted towards sales. The failure rate is less then 10% or there would be a recall.
