How many people here, who were not fans of MGS, have picked up the game and thought it deserved the score it got? I am not a fan of the series, but think if the game is as great as it is given credit for, then i will have to see for myself. I only want the opinion of those who were not die hard fans. Since it was designed for fans, i want to know how many people actually got the game, and liked it, who were not fans in the first place. I.E. casual gamers.
Well, im one at least. I didn't play any of the other games at length and I thought MGS4 was simply amazing. I know i'll get flamed for it but I really like MGO too, carrying the MGS4 mechanics over to multiplayer was a good move and I see myself playing it a lot more as time goes on.

Actually the game is definetly not soley for the fans. Its for everybody, even those who won't understand the story, the gameplay and cinematics make up for everything. If anything the game is very different from the past games.
It is totally a game designed for everyone but with a gift or two for those of us who have played the series, its without a doubt the best game I've ever played for nostalgia here and there.

But, Kojima himself said he was making this one for the fans. The long cut scenes tend to prove this. I'm just interested in the regular gamers opinion. one who was not a fan before the game came out. But thanks you for the comment.

It really isn't just meant for the fans. If it was you wouldn't see Sony have such a agressive ad campaign for it. Now if this was Ninja Gaiden then yes that is directed towards fans of the series but MGS4 is really for anyone.
As far as I'm concerned you can keep it or loose it. I am sick of hearing about it though...

I agree, but i meant for this thread to hear about those who have not played the previouse games. Do they like it or not. what caused them to get it, and were they satisfied with the game, or impressed by a certain aspect of the game. I constantly hear the fans talking about how great the game is. Now I want to give a voice to those who were not fans of the series, but picked it up anyways. Good comments or not, i just want to hear from those, since i was not a fan of the series to begin with. Except i did like the first game.
This was my first mgs game and I loved every second of it. The story was pretty easy to get into since its told in a way where it re tells the past. I had to google 1 or 2 things to fully understand the story and now I feel as I am a vet of the series :D. Ive never played a stealth game and I enjoyed it alot. Havin choice of playing it as a TPS and sneaking was very fun as I mixed it up. The cutscenes were pretty long but honestly I was soo into the game that it passed really quickly. I finished every act in about 5-6 hours on the 2nd hardest difficulty(forgot the name). The online part is pretty good but it just wasnt my type of thing but thats only my preference. All and all it was one of the best games ive played in a while and deserves its praise, the only thing I would have changed was add a bit of extra gameplay.
I've played all the MGS games so I can't really speak as someone that hasn't played it, BUT, if you ever do have questions about things they just released the MGS database for free on the PSN which I have checked out and it's basically a MGS encyclopedia. Anything you wanna know is in that thing and all of it is real easy to understand, I even learned new stuff!
i only played half of mgs1 when i was younger and never really got into the other ones ( will for SURE play them all through now) but i loved MGS4 and it deffinitly deserves 10/10. it is right up there with the best games i have ever played maybe even number 1 on that list.

good point, okay well i will leave this thread man because I am a big fan of the series, but I will tell you this much my 2 friends who I ran through the game with had never played the series and they loved it.
I think it's hard going on a gaming forum asking looking for people that weren't a fan of the game about the game. I think it would be better if you ask someone that never played a Metal Gear game in their life and ask them if it deserved that score.
