Wehenevr this kind of topic comes up, I just tell the TCs to make a list of all the games they are interested in and whatever console has the most titles wins.
Although I admit it's not an "easy" choice because both consoles have solid titles that are worth getting. In my case, I went with the PS3 and haven't regreted my choice, but games like ME2 make me crave for some 360 action TBH.
Im curious IF the 360 is really maxing out or not. Where seeing great looking games coming out of it. Anyway, I will always suggest jsut getting both, but if you have to choose one right now, its really hard to say. PS3 is probaly going to have the better looking Exclusives, but 360 also usually gets the bit better Multiplats with most games. However, you wont notice the difference unless you flip back and forth between teh two version, so that wont be a problem for you. Keep in mind you have to pay 50 bucks a year to really get teh most out fo your 360, while on PS3 you dont. Also, just look at the Exclusives,a nd see what appeals to you the most.
I would really like some help in deciding which system is the better buy based on a number of factors. I've already researched the hell out of both the systems and at this point in time they are pretty even though PS3 seems to have a little more staying power. I have $300 to spend on one of these consoles right now, though later on down the road I will buy the other as well. I like the fact that PS3 has blu-ray, it is the future, but i'm not willing to buy movies for it since they are still too expensive in my opinion. The power of the PS3 is JUST starting to come through but only first party/exclusive titles will take the time to take advantage of the cell processor plus not many people can afford the kind of TV for the pretty pretty graphics that the PS3 will allow, course this will change in the future. I love all the features, the ease of use, and the built in wi-fi. The Xbox 360s power has pretty much reached its limit but that does not really matter at this point in time, MAYBE on down the line it will. Many of my friends own 360s and while it would be cool to keep up with them through the system I am not much of an online gamer. I really like the fact that Xbox Live has more classic arcade games than PSN and the fact that I can play these classic games with others from around the world. Would be kinda worried about how noisy the drive is but i'm kinda thinking that it might be exaggerated. Most of the games I want are coming out for both systems. The only exclusives that I really really want to play are Mass Effect 2(xbox) and Uncharted 2(PS3) though if Final Fantasy 13 was coming out for just one system it would be an easy choice. I would rather not spend entirely $300 at this time since I believe i'll be making more than enough a year down the road so i'm thinking of buying an Xbox 360 Arcade since a friend is willing to give me a hard drive for it and i'll end up saving $100 for a little padding for my business, however if the PS3 is truely worth getting right now then i'll get a PS3. So yeah, help!MekariTemple
MekariTemple, I want to say something, and what I'm gonna say isn't a troll because I truly believe this in my heart of hearts....no BS.
XBOX 360 is THE MOST broken and defective console in the ENTIRE history of video gaming. Yes it has some good games, but It's a travesty-sham of a console product.
On general principle, I will never buy anything that's reported to be a bad and defective product. I will not even buy a toaster if it was known to break like an XBOX 360. If I did buy an XBOX 360, knowing how defective prone it is, if I bought this product and if it broke on me, I would have deserved what the HE double L I got. Same goes for you. If it breaks, knowing what we all know, I don't wanna hear any whining or complaing...no fears or tears....you deserve what you get......period.
Do as you will and good luck.
Easy solution. FLIP A COIN. You really can't go wrong with either system, which is why I own both of them. The exclusives are great on both platforms and if you truly must have them all, get both systems. To choose one though, just flip a coin and enjoy.

XBOX 360 is THE MOST broken and defective console in the history of video gaming.
No.Just no.
Indeed because DS looks meh so you go for a 360.It depends on the games, do a little research on your favorite genres and then decide.
I.E. All I would have to do is to look at which platform has a certain game called Demon's Souls. Not a hard decision at all.

YES just yes.
Over 50% (54%) failure rate according to Game Informer.
It's very simple logic, In approx 4 years, approx 1 out of every 2 people since 2005 has experienced an XBOX 360 malfunction....That isn't hard to believe.
Horrible, horrible product. It should have been against the law for this product to be allowed to enter the market.

why pick the highest % reported? there is no way the defect rate could be that high. that would call for a complete recall.
Depends on games. In this case xbox exclusively have Mass Effect Series and Left4Dead Series, four amazing games. Just my opinion

I am saying no to 'XBOX 360 is THE MOST broken and defective console in the history of video gaming"
But,yeah,it is the console that broke the most this gen.

Have you ever looked at this? Wikipedia has its own page dedicated to XBOX 360's numerous problems
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems
The systems even was reported to be at a 68% internal sample assembly line defect rate right before launch.
So that Game Informer says 1 in 2 people have experienced failure rates in 4 whole years....it isn't far fetched at all...Its quite believable.
I have always said this: If you want the best singleplayer experience then get the ps3. If you want the best multiplayer experience then get the 360. I hope that this can help you decide which one you want :P.Miroku32That's a bit misleading, don't you think. They have advantages but............pick the one with the most friends on even if you don't like multi, the exculsives.

What can be worse than 50%?
Is there a worse console than that?
I've been playing video games since ATARI 2600 (Older brother's...eventually gave to me) and NES (also older brothers). I've never heard of a worse console defective rate than XBOX 360.

like i said, you picked the highest number. :|
why? the 68% was before the thing was even released.

CaseyWegner,
Ask yourself this, and please answer honestly,
Those who have bought their XBOX 360's in 2005-2006, What are the chances that they still have the same XBOX and have never had a malfunction? Seriously? What would be the course for having an XBOX for 4 whole years and having no problem? I'd say the chances of that happening are about 25%...probably less than that.
Now keep in mind, Jasper chips (the chip/board that allegedly made a significant dent in the problems) weren't put into retail XBOX 360's until approx. this time last year (2009). So what are we left with? We are left with XBOX 360's being egregiously failure prone for 3 WHOLE YEARS.....that's about 25 million consoles (more than that actually).
So, 25 million users have had access to egregiously defective prone consoles in the span of 3 years (75% of XBOX 360's life cycle).
If you put all of that together, CaseyWegner,
the fact that XBOX 360 has only had approx 50% failure rates....that's actually a blessing, because it probably should be more.
For anyone that claims to not believe this, they would be fooling themselves and/or naive.
I wouldn't buy ANY product with a failure rate higher than 5%.
Defective appliances should be BANNED, even if you have warranty...M$ coveres only Red Ring of Death & E74 error...anything other than that; pay up!
You shouldn't even consider a 360 for the money, you have to buy play & charge battery packs (yes 360 controllers use batteries -_-), deal with the risk of your 360 scratching your precious game and having to rebuy them (no warranty for games), play to play online, buy an extra 150$ wireless adapter to internet wirelessly and buy very expensive propietary memory cards or HDD's (100$ to 150$)
PS3 has wireless built-in, comes with a removable/swappable 120 GB or 250 GB HDD now, the wireless controllers are rechargable (accu), free online.
Guess which one is cheaper in the immidiate & long run?
Guess which one comes with the 50% failure rate?
/thread
It comes down to exclusives on each, whether you want to pay to play online, and if you want WiFi, charge and play controllers, and a bluray HD movie player or not.
Take into consideration that the Xbox360 isnt maxed or near maxed. Xbox devs dont freak out over graphics. I mean Reach does look VERY good. Gears of war 2 uses 97% of one core/spu or whatever the xbox has and 3 percent of the other 2%. Id like to see a dev utilize all three.J-Stantino
XBOX 360's doesn't have SPU's, only the PS3's CPU (CELL PROCESSOR) have those.
Also, the PS3's Cell Processor can process graphics by itself, which is why the PS3's total graphics output is higher than the XBOX 360.
XBOX 360's CPU (Xenon) can't do that.
I wouldn't buy ANY product with a failure rate higher than 5%.

Yeah nice exaggerations. PS3 controllers don't use batteries? Sony must come from the future....or they're just built in.
They are both great consoles but here a few things you might wanna take into consideration
PS3- Has free online multiplayer, wifi built in, blu-ray player and 1080p full HD
360- Gotta pay for online multiplayer, no wifi, no blu-ray and not full HD
Some may be more important than others but gives you a general idea. Now you want to go make a list of your favorite genre's and franchises then see which one is more favorable than the other. As for me personally I would choose a PS3 over a 360 anyday but they are still both better than a Wii
Well I think i'd like the games on PS3 better but Xbox Live has all the classic coin-op, SNES, and Genesis games that i'd love to have which PSN does not have.MekariTempleHmm, if you want Genesis/SNES you're looking in the wrong direction. For those you want a Wii. There's a more robust Marketplace on XBLA, but the PSN is no slouch either.

Phazevariance,
XBOX 360 isn't cheaper though.
To get a new unit with a harddrive for either system, it costs $300 for both PS3 and 360.
The problem with the 360 is, you aren't done forking out more money. You still need to get a battery pack ($20), and then you will want XBOX LIVE ($50 year). So to get the same experience as a PS3 ($300), you will have to spend $370 for an XBOX 360, and then you still have an inferior hardware product, both in quality and in technology.
i had the same problem a while ago. i ended up buying both. The xbox is used for friends (and exclusives sometimes), and my Ps3 is used for Blu ray (and exclusives all the time). im glad i bought both, best of both worlds.

An Arcade XBOX 360 would be a pretty terrible way to go...not only are you still going to have to spend extra money now, (LIVE and Battery pack = $70), but then you will have to spend more money for a harddrive once you figure out that the Arcade system you bought is an incomplete system.
You'll be worse off getting that than the XBOX Elite.
No thanks.
i agree man, honestly, just take a look at what exclusives they both have lined up and whatever tickles your fancy go with thatThey are both really great consoles, really can't go wrong with any one of them.
