Well first, when you show me someone that is actually going to play all 8000+ PS2 games, I'll start believing this is a huge problem and that 'TCHBO'.
When the current PS3s were first released, everyone was quick to jump on the fact that it 'only' had around 98% BC, 'not full like Sony promised.' Even so, what did Sony do? They released an update for it to fix the problem. Now they've announced (and as it was pointed out, this has been known to be coming) that they're moving to full software emulation instead of having the actual chip, but will still support 1200+ games at launch, with patches to follow for the rest.
Seeing as how they were quick to fix the problem last time around, and how I doubt many people 'complaining' about it actually have plans to get a PS3 (bashing Sony seems to have become a hobby) there's not such a big deal here. I'm sure the 'top' games will be covered, and sure... someone will probably have a few old games they've kept that won't work right away, but Sony moved quickly last time around, I'm sure this won't be any different.
