Whatever game you thought was the hardest game ever is nothing, it's garbage next to Silver Surfer. Ninja Gaiden is like playing Tetris on level 1 compared to Silver Surfer on NES. Well, let me be specific. The game is unbeatable with a NES standard pad, but the developers were trying to sell the NES advantage back then.

To beat it, you just need a slow motion button on the controller, and a turbo button is nice too. The Turbo rapid fire button isn't needed, but Slow motion is, as the game was designed for it.

Since you are playing it today, you would never think of the marketing or tools used all the time back then, but Slow Motion was a big deal, so they made a game that was challenging in for even Slow Motion gamers. Of course, The bosses are easy considering how hard the game is.

Without cheats? I don't use cheats really, unless you consider owning an NES Advantage, as well as third party controller cheats. Remember though, the game was designed for that. Even with Slow Motion, the game was still really hard.
