This is a re-post of a question I posted on a wrong board a few weeks ago.

I know there is a hundred if not thousands of threads about PS3 vs. Xbox 360.

But this is not the normal kind of one vs the other kind of thread... I think...

Here goes...

I would like to buy one of the two for some casual gaming. Normally I'm a pc gamer (very casual), and that's not gonna change.

But games like UFC and Fight Night never ventures into the world of PC

I can afford either of the two, although xbox is my price favorite at the moment.

I live in Denmark and the price difference is pretty big. I can buy a Xbox 360 (80gb + hdmi) with an extra controller and 1-2 games for the price of a standard PS3 with no extra accessories (controller or games). But again price isn't really the biggest concern for me.

I'm not really sure if i'm ever gonna use the console for anything else than gaming, so is it worth giving the extra bucks for the PS3?

I rarely rent movies, and the bluray selection is scarce so normal DVD's are fine for now.

I'm not planning on using the console for anything online (unless you can convince me otherwise).

The whole exclusive games thing is p***ing me off. I play a lot of GTA 4 on PC, and I would like to try the expansion packs (or what ever they are called).

But Hard Rain for PS3 looks interesting too :-/

The new splinter cell game, conviction?? or something like that is also on my wish list. But I can't remember if that's an exclusive game :|

I don't want to buy both, because I know one of them will end up never getting used.

-

Should I let price tell me what to buy or can you guys help pick one. I don't care about noise or looks, just the entertainment value.

I don't know if this helps, but here is some of my preferred games for pc (types).

GTA 4 is my all-time favorite. Mafia 2 will probably take it's place.

Mass Effect is pretty awesome. I'm getting Mass Effect 2 when it comes .

I'm going to try the new Batman game when it comes out, but I'm not sure if it's a game i'm going to play more than once.

Max Payne is also a favi... Hopefully the third will be too.

I have never played theses games on a console, but I would like to try it some day.

The PS3 is the best value for the money in my opinion and if you have a good enough PC most good 360 games that are not on PS3 are on PC. I think the PC/PS3 combo is the best.

If i was in your position I would pick the 360, seeing as you're only looking to play a few sports games here and there.

Well, the big drawpoint for the PS3 is that it has a blu ray player. How important is having better than theatre quality movies to you? Keep in mind these things cost $20 bucks each.

I would stay with the 360 if I were you.

Well, although I personally prefer my PS3 (mainly because of its exclusives), reading what you wrote I'd say the 360 is probably the best choice for you. The reason I'm saying it is that the way you're going to use your console it seems the PS3 doesn't offer you anything over the 360 that warrants paying more for a console.

Get the 360 if you like faulty hardware, paying for online which should be free, not having built-in wifi, lack of exclusives besides halo spinoffs in the future, and listening to 12 year olds on xbox live :)

PS3/PC is by far the best combo you can own, most high quality 360 games are shared with the PC, plus you need to pay to play online with the 360 which makes no sense. Get a PS3 it's a much better piece of hardware, and it's been getting amazing games for the last 2 years, and has a great future lineup.

Well if you want my opinion based on the games that you mention are on your wishlist such as GTA IV expansions, mass effect 2(which i also agree is going to be insane) and splinter cell conviction. It sounds like your best bet is a 360 as those are all 360 exclusives at the moment.

TBH if you have a computer that can run all those games you enjoy, there's not much point in getting a 360 as it shares most of its library with the PC (with exceptions like Halo 3, Gears 2, etc.) Many games are exclusive to PS3 and cannot be played on either PC or 360. I own a 360 because I don't own a gaming rig, and they're more expensive to build from scratch. You said before that you were worried that your console might not be used. If you aren't a giant fan of Halo or Gears if you get a 360 it might be ignored, especially since 360 games are more expensive than PC, so you'll buy your multiplats for PC.

Just to let you guys know. I'm going for the PS3.

Although I will miss out on the expansion packs for GTA 4 (unless they release them later for PC *crossing my fingers*),

the exclusives for xbox or not the kind of games I want to play on a console. Gears Of War and Halo or FPS in general are not games I want to play on a console.

I prefer PC for those games. I would probably use the console mostly for fighting games and very story heavy games, which I'm hoping Heavy Rain is.

As many of you mentioned, a lot of Xbox games also turn up for the PC, so I see no point in having two machines that has the same repertoire of games.

Thanks for the help guys :D

Imo theres not even a contest. 360 all the way:

cheaper

same power

more A+ exclusives

full third party support (PC/360 games)

better looking multiplats

better online (but costs money)

better controller (opinion)

You get the best value out of a PS3.
