“For the important holiday-shopping week of Thanksgiving, which includes Black Friday, Nintendo Switch was also the top-selling video game console, with nearly 550,000 systems sold.”

I added that part. But check out this System Wars thread for examples. Thread There were Xbox “insiders” running around on Twitter and YouTube saying the Series S “won” Black Friday. Like we weren’t gonna get a NPD breakdown or something… But nobody is gonna hold them accountable. They’ll just catch a case of amnesia and move on to the next lie

Before the knights come in, no, Switch did not out sell its competition because of supply issues. In other words, Switch wasn't the Plan B console.

Fwiw, it sounds like they're including all Switch models in those Black Friday figures. It was reported that the Series S was the top selling singular device so maybe it outsold the Lite, Original and/or OLED head-on but failed miserably when you combine all together.

But yeah, people really thought the Series S/X would outsell the Switch? lol

Both can be true..........no?

The Series S could outsell all consoles for 1 particular day, but Switch dominate the month?

Thats how I assume it went down, no way either console was going to beat the Switch in monthly sales but it is feasible that they could outsell for a day or 2, like black friday or cyber monday

Sony should raise the price by 10 bucks again. It doesn't seem like the previous hike is enough.

@navyguy21: So you’re suggesting the Series S won just Friday, in a week that Nintendo won, and all retailers were running their Black Friday “deals” all week long… Best Buy, Amazon, Target, Walmart, GameStop… Series S happened to sneak in a win on a single day in a week they got whooped…Read the article, the Switch didn’t just win November, they dominated Thanksgiving week as well. More than half the Switch sales were Thanksgiving week…

Im no mathologist, but that’s not looking likely.

It’s not hard to get a switch while next gen consoles (except the S) are still difficult to come by so it’s not surprising.

OR what they said is still true as the link and the tweet in the OP says "Holiday shopping week" which is longer than just Black Friday. It is possible for one to sell more on one day and another to have more when the entire week is taken into account.

@regnaston: More than half the Switch consoles sold were during Thanksgiving week. Over 500K. The Xbox consoles didn’t sell that much the entire month… So what you’re proposing is like 90% of the Xbox consoles sold were Series S consoles, and they were all sold specifically on Black Friday… That doesn’t sound crazy to you???

OK folks, here’s where the Xbox Series S won Black Friday stuff came from…

Story

The source measured site visits to guage the popularity of each console. Measured by what was believed to be reliable video game sales source, Adobe Digital Economy Index, they measured 1 trillion visits in total. There is no way to know if visits led to sales.

Now we can put that silliness to rest…

I am just saying that one fact does not necessarily make the other thing false

I personally dont care which sold more, but both can be true at the same time

@regnaston: We’ll the ResetEra detectives were on the case, and got to the bottom of the Series S claims for us. It was all based on a story referring to site traffic. Not to mention, the article was published on Black Friday at like 2PM… So the information can’t be based on Black Friday sales specifically. It’s likely they were referring to the thanksgiving week as well. And we know how that turned out…

I would question the validity Adobe Digital Economy Index after this one.

fair enough .. I really don't care about sales numbers I was just pointing out both can be true (as for Resetera not sure they are a great source either :D )

ResetEra is less of a source here. Users just went digging for the root of the Series S Black Friday information. All official stories, posts, threads, videos etc point back to the story I posted. An article about Black Friday sales success, published in the middle of the day on Black Friday, that doesn’t actually reference any sales data…

I‘m left with more questions now than I had before I started this thread

Nov software chart. COD is already the second best selling game in all of 2021. First place is currently being held by last years COD. COD is finally dead! 🙄

@goldenelementxl: There is one potential glitch to your point.

from the link you provided:

According to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the U.S., the combined sales ofNintendo Switch,Nintendo Switch LiteandNintendo Switch – OLED Modelsystems hit 1.13 million in the month of November, powering up Nintendo Switch as the best-selling video game console of that month. For the important holiday-shopping week of Thanksgiving, which includes Black Friday, Nintendo Switch was also the top-selling video game console, with nearly 550,000 systems sold. With November logged in the record books, Nintendo Switch has now been the top-selling video game console for 35 out of the last 36 months.

The Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X are listed as separate consoles. So, while I am not saying you are necessarily incorrect, is it not possible that the XBox Series S outsold the three Switch SKUs individually over Black Friday (not combining them)?

But the report was published on Black Friday, in the middle of the day. So the report could not have been referring to Black Friday the day. The data was incomplete. Not to mention, all retailers held their Black Friday sales all week long. I know because I did a great deal of shopping that week. Including the purchase of a Xbox Series S…

@dabear: That is possible. The most possible speculation I’ve seen so far in support of the Series S winning BF debate. But the story everyone was referencing was talking website hits, not sales. And it was published in the middle of the day in question. So if we throw the story out completely, and just speculate that it’s not impossible that the Series S was the best selling individual SKU on Black Friday, then I’m on board.

Several things to note

- Metroid Dread is already GONE from the top 20. Zero legs. Don't know why so many Nintendo fans keep Metroid at arms length

- FH5 is the first Xbox first party title in ages to chart on the NPD top 20. Game Pass has jack all to do with it, there hasn't been anything bankable in a very long time to appear on the system

- GTA Trilogy didn't chart. HAHAHA! Rockstar really FUBAR'd this one

Nintendo doesn’t count digital copies. So it very hard to tell considering CoD is counting digital and is a multiplat released on line 7 platforms. Pokémon still king.

Only needed One 🎙.

Just because you can't find a specific item doesn't necessarily mean you purchase it's competitor if available. That's like saying you walk into a dealership to purchase a new Corvette but since it is unavailable you end up with a Spark. People seem to think the supply issue is why Switch sells as well as it does but that is a falsehood.

I really wish they’d include the digital sales for Nintendo games. Kind of missing the whole picture of these sales charts when such a large number of games in them only count partial data.

Even though I'm ore a digital gamer nowadays, never ever buy digital on Nintendo! I buy Switch games on physical. Nintendo doesn't know jacked about digital itself and how to treat it with respect.

@davillain-: I prefer physical myself and mainly purchase that way whenever I can do so but I’m certain that there’s plenty of people who purchase digitally on the Switch especially since it’s portable capable and digital is quite convenient for that aspect. Really puts these charts into question.

"Losing" one month (two) out of the year doesn't translate to much of a downer. Not like it wouldn't cause bitterness because it has. What has made the Sony fannies more unhappy is no GOTY and no games to play this holidays from Sony.
