I guess we could say the same about BLACK? In the end, there have been other games that were a bit on the short side of things but still got AAA. God of War, for example was most certainly under 10 hours. But it was good enough to warrant AAA status. This game is apparently not, and it's 8.0 here and 81% at Gamerankings suggests to me that the consensus is that it is a solid game, but not in with the genre's elite.

I did give them a break. I went to my local gamestore. Played the game...beat it. Then came home and posted about it. The best thing about Heavenly Sword is you don't even need to rent the game OR own a PS3...you can play it at your local gamestore and beat it while "testing" the game.

BTW: I'm almost finished with Bioshock. And while it's a very very good game, there is no replay value for me. I played under the wrong profile for about 2 levels and had to replay those. It was very boring replaying it and I had to watch all the cut scene crap. So Bioshock is definitely not the end all be all game.

In black the guns didn't vary statistically, enemies were retarded and you just had to aim for the nearest object near an enemy and you could bet it would blow up. The game was just an unoriginal bullet grind from start to finish.

Some of that was mentioned in the review.

They'll eventually at least get a pity AAAE. You know like if FF or MGS come out and it's not really 9.0 but more like an 8.5...they'll round it up to a 9.0 so they can show they aren't biased.

I think you are confusing promising PS3 games or great games with the BIG name games that people expect AAA out of. Those BIG namegames are coming next year and we all know that , we all know what they are , and we don't have a big problem with that. Every exclusive game doesn't need to be AAA and the PS3 doesn't need to have a AAAE at Gamespot this year for validation. If Uncharted or Ratchet happen to get a 9.0 instead of an 8.5 or an 8.0 is that going to suddenly make the PS3 any better or any worse ?

If it scores less than a 9.0 the bar will be set pretty high for other sequel games to achieve. I doubt MGS4 or FF will offer anything substantially different to make it a 9.0 either. now if Halo3 gets AAA then there's a good chance for MGS4 and FF.

Wasn't God of War 2 reviewed under the old system? If so, it doesn't apply. The new system apparently came with a training class to the reviewers telling them to be harsh on games. Minor issues are to be used to keep it from AAA status and surely 9.5 status. So they went to a new .5 scale, but then it lookes like they round down all numbers. So what used to be a 9.4 gets a 9.0. And what was an 8.9 gets an 8.5. In effect they took up to .4 points off each score. Along with being more strict on minor issues, replayability, and originality.

But the biggest issue is that they have people who don't really follow the game review it. That's good in that it prevents praise bias from getting into the review. But it puts the game in the hands of a person that doens't really care about the game. So they are forced to play a game they don't particulary care for. In the end that will hurt the score.
