we all know that Crysis is the best looking game on a technical level compared to the rest, but what im wondering is what is going to detrown it as graphics king. Alan Wake is said to boast rediculous physics and u almost need a quad core processor to run it, Project offset might have the best shadowing and texture work ever seen, Wardevil looks too good to be true to run on a PS3, Killzone 2 looks like a movie with better lighting than Crysis, and Resident Evil 5/Ninja Gaiden 2 will push 360 and PS3 near limitations.

just imagine that crysis is really onlt scratching the surface of whats possible on next gen GPu's wait for the ATI X3000 or GeForce 10000 line of cards it will be CGI but real-time.

does it get any better!

real time ray tracing+motion blur and textures out of this world

and people say that there have been minimal advancements in graphics, what are they lookin at

I honestly believe that the next game with the best, and possibly only real, chance to dethrone Crysis as graphics king is the godly Project Offset. That game just looks incredibly good. It's really the only other game this gen other than Crysis to have truly awed me in terms of graphics.

I believe that RE5 being console-only will ultimately hold it back, but I think it could very well go down as the greatest-looking console game ever. Looks excellent, which comes as absolutely no surprise considering what they managed to pull out of the Gamecube.

Project Offset looks good but there's only a few screenshots/videos of it and from what I've seen up to now there's no chance in hell it's beating Crysis in graphics.

I disagree, and I say that as a huge Crysis fan.

The game seems to be a brilliant mix of gorgeous art design and very impressive technology. And it looks way better in motion, where the object-based motion blur is very natural.

I'm sorry. All I see in those pictures are nice looking character models. All the rest looks blurry and hardly impressive. I'll say it again: There is zero and absolutely ZERO chance that this game can beat Crysis on a TECHNICAL level for graphics.

I'm hoping there will be some kind of revolution in the software for drawing graphics that results in big gains.

The new STALKER maxed may surprise some... Alan Wake on the other hand is going to be a visual beast that will make many pc's cry and wont be maxed on current hardware, it'll look amazing for a year and then some much like crysis. If Huxley ever gets done that too has potential to be quite a looker.

Do you know why most Project Offset pics are blurry? Because the game has true object-based motion blur, unlike Crysis which does have object motion blur but not this advanced. Almost every screen you will ever see of PO will be blurry because of that piece of tech. If you take a still pic of someone running or otherwise making quick movements in real-life, it will often be blurry.

And what is your reasoning that it has "absolutely ZERO chance" for it to beat Crysis on a technical level? Them's some strong words. Surely you must have some type of info.

All three of those games are unbelievably good looking, its really hard to tell whats best, iv seen lots of crysis but to make a fair judgement ill need to see more of alan wake and project offset, but i wouldn't be surprised if both those games look better than crysis when thay are released.

There's one thing I have to point out about this. If you see someone running in real life, are they blurry? lol

Realistically on a technical level, there should be no blur when someone is just running...

You know you can take pictures without blur at all?

Using an SLR Camera, you choose a high shutter speed which will eliminate all motion blur.

But the game isn't in still pictures, it's movement, that we see on screen. So doesn't that make your arguement moot?

DragonfireXZ95

It's a picture of the game when everything is moving, and this is the first game with real object-based motion blur, which is why it may seem really odd. In-game the motion blur is far more natural, if you've seen the videos. But if you take a picture of it the blur will show, because it's still ultimately a still pic when everything on screen is moving. So with the realistic motion blur, you have a blurry picture. This is why the majority of Project Offset pics are quite blurry.

And the blur doesn't just come from the object-based motion blur. Project Offset also uses full temporal anti-aliasing. It's got some tech underneath its belt that's more advanced that what we've seen to date.

Whatever dude. Crysis is probably my most anticipated game and my pick as GOTY along with Mass Effect, so praise it all you want. I know full well how great-looking Crysis is, I'm simply pointing out a game that I believe *may* dethrone it as graphics king. You said yourself a few posts up that there are only a few pics and videos of Project Offset, yet you've written it off already despite how obviously early it is.

Unless they show better screenshots of this game I am not really impressed. The ones posted in this thread just proved me more about how Crysis whoops its butt in graphics (atleast for now).

Like I said, those pics did not impress me at all. I'm just saying that judging by THOSE screenshots you posted if it stays like that there's no chance it'll beat Crysis. They're gonna have to show me a lot better.

Can anyone tell me how to widen gamespots forum thing so that the pictures shown arent like this, so i dont have to scroll on the bottom of the post: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/unknown1771/gamespot.jpgshadyd1717
Right click on the pic, then choose "view image". Problem solved. ;)

[QUOTE="3ggman"]Project Offset looks good but there's only a few screenshots/videos of it and from what I've seen up to now there's no chance in hell it's beating Crysis in graphics.Zeliard9

I disagree, and I say that as a huge Crysis fan.

The game seems to be a brilliant mix of gorgeous art design and very impressive technology. And it looks way better in motion, where the object-based motion blur is very natural.

Dude, you think that blurfest looks good. Thats sad man, just sad. That looks like crap based on those screen shot. I feel like I am looking at it through a drunks eyes.

I  at you for thinking killzone 2 has better lighting than Crysis. Thats just funny. Not even close to true, but damn funny that you actually believe that.l-_-l

agreed, Crysis and Halo 3 have the most advanced and natural lighting (esp. crysis) to date. Both featuring MTR based HDR GI, and dynamic lighting.

The self shadowing, etc in killzone 2 might be impressive...but it's not even completely dynamic.

As for people that think Project offset looks bad, needs to watch some of the tech demos....this game is incredible looking. You can't judge screens because of the object motion blur.

Project offset and Alan wake are the only in the list that will match or surpass Crysis in both graphics/technology. We need to see more of both however, and damnit I wanna see how Alan wake is looking on the 360.

Alan Wake looks good but probably not the level of Crysis. I'm looking forward to seeing Mass Effect in motion on my TV also. There isn't many games that look bad these days.
