The stars have finally aligned. Atlus has announced Persona 5 Royal for the Nintendo Switch to join his brother in battle. Now Joker and Shulk can finally be together like the gods had intended since the beginning. What was once thought to be a battle for eternity was settled in a Smash.

Welcome home Persona. Who will Nintendo eat next? I cant even think of any games worthy of our time.

Don't forget about Pokemon Scarlet/Violent too as they're also both JRPG! I'll admit, Nintendo is on a role this year, I'm impress. I'm only interest in Scarlet and Persona 5 Royal I'll get on PC.

How is persona the greatest jrpg ever made?? I love the game, but its a freaking walking / dating sim. Many call it pedo, and depending on the route you take in the game, they wouldn't be wrong. My favorite parts of the game were the dungeons, and leveling up to unlock new abilities in battle. The sad part is, you only unlock those abilities by dating underage highschool girls or thirsty cougar teachers/reporters. My favorite relationship in persona5 sadly was with a little boy. Not because I'm a shotocon pedo, but because he gave me my favorite gun abilities. I went hard trying to max out my stars with him.

I'm disappointed mesome. A real nintendo fan would have called golden sun the greatest rpg, I would have backed you up too. It's sad nintendo abandoned golden sun though.

@hardwenzen: cheezus you're messed up. The kid named Shinya is a top notch gamer and gun expert. He teaches you all the ways to be a better shooter which unlocks more of your shooting abilities. Sadly I couldn't max it out with him. You only meet him near the end, and by then there wasn't enough time.

@mesome713: golden sun is and will always be the greatest jrpg ever made. Those weak ass games like Final Fantasy don't hold a candle to golden sun. The only reason final fantasy outscored golden sun, is because these kids had their first girl crush on some pixelated girls. It's sad really.

I wish we had more JRPGs to show on XBOX, but I came to terms a long time ago with the fact that Japanese devs prefer to develop for Japanese consoles. Still a shame about Scalebound, and Phantom Dust. The XBOX does have some really great non-Japanese RPGs though, especially nowadays.

@mesome713: the cows probably wouldn't care as much about losing exclusives to switch. But losing them to xbox, they all have glorious meltdowns. Just wait....if persona does good on xbox, square will probably re think ps5 exclusivity for their ff series. Thats when you'll see the real cow meltdowns. Just sit back and enjoy.

@blaznwiipspman1: The funny thing is, I don't even really care about Final Fantasy in its current state, any game past FFX pretty much. To me, Persona pretty much succeeded Final Fantasy as the top JRPG series. For them to release FF7 Pt 2 on XBOX and PS5 alike, I look at that more as them releasing their "experimental" game multiplat. With Persona, it feels like winning one of the big ones.

I don't get the fascination with Persona. One half is a borderline dating sim, the other half is a poor man's SMT.

Mother 3 is a superb game, political jRPGs tend to cut down on the melodrama a lot and then there are gameplay driven jRPGs. Be they Labyrinth of Touhou, SMT, Pokemon and Etrian Odyssey and more, which barely have any melodrama, let alone storytelling.

Xenoblade is lame, and Persona is old. And lame.

Sure it’s gameplay can be complex, but that’s what makes it so fun.

Nah, Xenoblade always played like a poor man's MMO. Exploring their worlds can be fun. But their insistance on using MMO mechanics in combat always held them back.

I agree completely. Xenoblade would actually be really cool if it had good gameplay. The world is great.

Two best JRPGs are Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII.

A lot of jRPGs, in the late 2000's took queues from FF11, most notably FF12. The result was always the same. Crap combat. A polished turd is still a turd. And menu based combat in real time will never be good. When the game flows in real time the last thing you want is players navigating the UI, rather than the actual game world. Battles were predictable though because the tank always had hate.

At least XBC3 seems to be fixing the menu based stuff by tying every action to a button now rather than the clunky mess they had previously.

Xenoblade may be a good game, buy its far from being the best. FF7R thrashes this game both graphics and combat. Even its storyline is nothing to brag about.

What is a political jRPG?

Admittedly I am pretty inexperienced with JRPGs, I've tried many but I've never grown fond of them sadly or played them for any length of time.

Always willing to give them a chance though.

Usually sRPGs. Games like Growlancer, Tactics Ogre and some entries in the Fire Emblem franchise. There are non SRPGs too with strong political storylines like Suikoden.

I am playing Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes right now, and so far no one has been particularly dramatic, there is a dialogue with Edelgard I would share with you, but currently I cant. I will do it in a few hours though. I find it pretty apt, as of late, given Eoten's usual schtick.

so just because some japanese devs make a game, it automatically gets called a jrpg? Pretty racist no? The game has more in common with wrpgs than jrpgs. More action element than story driven.

Just because their nationality is japanese, it doesn't mean the games they create are automatically japanese. They obviously took more inspiration from western rpg games than any anime style stuff from japan.
