Poll Now That The PSVR Price Has Been Announced, Who's Buying One? (105 votes)

Yes, Day One For Me 20%
No, I'll Pass 53%
Will Wait A Year And Then Decide 27%

Sony has finally unveiled the price of their PSVR. The price is only $400, but you will also have to buy their $60 PS Camera & $40 Move Controllers to play most of the games. That's a good $500 for the full package. I can only assume that Sony left these items out of the box because they thought most PS4 gamers already owned them.

In any case, here is the full announcement video. So who's buying one when it launches?

An MSRP of $610 after tax with everything that's required? No thanks.

There will be a bundle with a camera. The DS4 has full motion control so Move is optional.

I won't be buying one this year. Need to the support first.

Let's see Sony can't support any secondary technology it comes out with, add the shitty price and it's just a massive failure, this is why you go almost go bankrupt Sony.

I thought I had myself talked out of it but the hype is starting to hit me. Maybe if I stay away from Gaf and just read this negative ass board I can fight the urge to buy anything. So many of you seem to do a great job of avoiding buying anything gaming related. Is this where the "content creators" on YouTube and Twitch come in? Do I just go there and watch them enjoy my hobby?

Day one for me.

Ace Combat, GT Sport, DOAX3, Eve Valkyrie, Summer Lesson, and Star Wars Battlefront are good enough for me to take the plunge. As a huge sim guy VR is very important to me, and even though my eyes are on the Vive for purchase eventually it's too expensive for me at the moment, and still doesn't have enough games that interest me. The huge support that PSVR is getting ensures I'll have games that interest me early.

DOAX3 is actually all the convincing I needed to take the plunge. How can you say no this in VR?....

He have a long way for actually VR to be accessible price wise and hardware to be mature enough for it to go wild. We are not near to that imho. Except the fact that 400$ is really high price for majority of the global market aside few markets in the world , hardware wise we having tons of limitations and restrictions in order for VR to really shine.

I dont think 2016 is the year of VR nor 2017. 2019 most likely when next-gen will be available.

Personally , no thanx. When VR will be way cheaper and games will take full advantage of it i might reconsider. For now is an alternative , cool for a while , way to play video games for the few.

Yeah VR is a gimmick right now. 2025 is the year it will shine.

I shan't. It needs games.

Now that I mention it... So does the PS4 itself. I don't have much hope for their VR headset. I think VR will come into its own on PC, but not on consoles this generation.

I think stupid fanboys in general. This gen Sony fans just seem to be more overzealous due to their lead, but it seems like they have quickly forgotten how Sony's arrogance landed them with a $600 console and a huge loss of market share last gen.

So then we should all enjoy SONY as current gen 8 console leader with the world's most powerful video game console! And with over 900+ games, by golly it should be easy to do!

Shitty price? Were you dropped on your head as a child? or did you mum just drink a lot?

How is almost $500 with all the accessories required not a shitty price? Seems like maybe you were the one dropped on your head as a child.

Seems like a lot less shittier to buy a 600$ headset without any clue what the motion controllers will cost, that needs a 1000$+ pc to run and that is owned by a company that thinks privacy is something you flush down the toilet.

It's not that they can't, it's that nothing has been popular enough to bother to continue to support.

The really nice thing about the PSVR (for Sony) is that it brings 2 prior devices (PS camera and Move) back into the fold.

Shitty price? Of all the ignorant things you could say this is probably the worst. The price came in lower than expectations and lower than the competition. The price point is fine.

Well PS4 will still be current gen 8's most powerful video game console. NX will hold gen 9's most powerful, till MS/Sony release theirs. :)

The PSVR mirrors to the TV so your family wouldn't be excluded.

Or am I reading your comment wrong? It didn't make sense to me.

Why wouldn't it be acceptable, there's enough competition and when comparing the specs and price of the psvr with other systems the price seems acceptable.

Or haven't you noticed that the oculus doesn't come with motion controllers either? There is still the extra cost of the camera ok, but then that's still only 460$ ish and it runs on a 300$ dollar ps4.

The oculus costs 600$ and you need a 1000$ pc to run it. That seems like a big enough price difference too matter imo.

And like I said, oculus is owned by a company that is sued for violating a basic human right like privacy on a regular basis. So if you don't use something like facebook it might be interesting to use the vive instead and there you're looking at 200$ more, allthough it does come with positional tracking and motion controllers.

@skektek: I havnt tried no VR, i bought an expensive pair of googles to fly our Phantom 3 drone though. Our family likes to play coop games together a lot. Its one of the main reasons Nintendo holds a special place with us. We love PC games too, but Nintendo is where we get to play together the most.

@commander: it's not acceptable because the price of a peripheral (which is drastically inferior to competition) shouldn't cost 153% more than the console it's running on.

NOONE has said that PC VR prices aren't even more outlandish. They are, but PSVR are still outrageous and unacceptable. You know why? Because the system is not powerful enough to handle an acceptable VR experience.

It seems that you think that the word periperal automatically means that it's inferior to the main product. This assumption may have historically grown because most periperals are low cost, like a mouse, keyboard, joystick etc. But that's far from the truth A periperal just means that it's either a output device or input device to the cpu. This can be a tv but also a sound card, video card, , etc.. The latter has become more of a dubious component in computer hardware because it has processing units as well but in the end, it's still an output device, so a periperal.

You have 3000$ tv's and videocards, and the fact that they're periperals is not a reason to call the prices unacceptable. Like I said a periperal is just a name for all output and input devices for a cpu. The other devices are for data storage and data transfer. Periperals , data devices, memory and the cpu covers anything computer related. It's just a naming system, not a value system.

You may think the prices for vr headsets are outlandish but if you look at the prices of the components and similar products, the psvr is sharply priced. Don't forget it has an extra processing unit as well.Together with the ps4, that can give a acceptable vr experience for that price, but nothing is for sure till we actually try this thing.
